Good Day Mike, you were clear about RCA connectors, my Audio Research M300 from 1988 has RCA only. This was 30.000 CHF then. Want to say. Audio Research had his reasons to build with RCA instead XLR to this specific model,
Heya Mikey! What is your take on USB hubs that translate SFP to USB etc. I have a streamer that can output USB3.0 SFP to a hub that then translates it to USB 2.0 to connect to a DAC. Is this snake oil or an actual way to clean USB signal to the DAC. I know most higher end DACs are galvanicly isolated. What do you think?
Wool covering for the walls !? Thats a new one for me. How is this done smoothly? The only wool type coverings ive seen have been in a tile or sheet setup where they are mounted to the walls. This appears to be bonded to the walls like a wallpaper/paint ??? Am I I seeing this correctly?
NUTS!!!! What a system. Thanks for sharing. I believe XLR are used in pro systems for both secure connections and long runs without interference. Don't think the average Joe will get anything out of it in their hifi system. Those tubes are about a foot in diameter right? I think calling them bass traps is a stretch unless they are some sort of membrane trap or Helmholtz resonator. Otherwise, they aren't affecting much below like 250-300hz. Anyhow, your rig is amazing and something to aspire to.
What for ? We all know we can make an old delivery van have near perfect measurement as evidenced in an earlier video.. why don't you come here and listen then ask yourself if you care about measurements.. ;-) 😉
I’m wondering whether it’s worth investing in an audio system having a frequency response that exceeds that of my own hearing profile. For example, why bother with a ribbon tweeter or a super-tweeter if one can’t hear a frequencies above the crossover point to those drivers.
Hey Mike, wow. Kudos to you for putting that system together. I sure it sounds superb. My own system is obviously not world class, and that’s ok. I am still able to experience the magic of music with my system, and that is what I desired.
I love the approach. Anatomy of a X - whatever it is. For instances; anatomy of a small room system, anatomy of a deep bass system, anatomy of a low distortion system, anatomy of a no compromises system, etc.
Mickey, 1 question about your panels : how is the pin point imaging on them ? Heard that panel speakers are not as good as conventional ones at that. Is is true ? Thanks
Ask those that have been here. The image is 3 dimensional and ridiculous. I have found that imaging is stronger with panels. Exactly the opposite as what you say. If people are not getting the best imaging they have ever heard from panels, they are not set up correctly.
You lost me. Your system is difficult for pot smoking old man . I like power , volume. I haven’t turn my old Marantz off in three months or longer. I just let it run. I’m telling you the quality is unquestionable. 1975 ? The Super Tweeter thing I have given a lot of thought to. My K- horns would open up. I think your right. I have everything set so volume basically that’s it. Man you have it all ! Love that triode amp, singl😮end. Beautiful ! Man that stuff is over the top. Don’t forget us music lover’s 🎼. Great job Mike.
Would live to know the distance from Center of speaker to speaker, seating position from the plane if the speakers and distance behind them. Thanks for the tour.
Bravo! You can spend an awful lot more for equipment that actually doesn’t perform as well. I’m continually unimpressed with million dollar systems with one amp attempting to power multiple drivers through a network of resistors, inductors and capacitors. The domestic ‘audiophile’ industry is forty years behind. PMC, LINN, Sanders all successfully employ active systems (I’m not including the tiny monitors with inbuilt, class D amps).
Well pretty speechless no stone left un-turned! Better than hearing vicoustic put lots of microphones in my room and I real didnt have a say in it just buy this panel 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great work Mikey amazing room 🤩✌🏾
What a wild set up. Congrats. I'm sure if i was in a Dealer role, id have a room and a Big closet full of gear. It's like food, eventually you find your favorite and even then our own taste can change within the seasons of our lives. Having said that, there is a best way to make things. Cheers!
your tweeter line is very tall. how tall exactly? some people say such radiation makes peoples voices and instruments sound too big in size in space. Like a singers mouth is 3 feet wide. Can you confirm or reject such reports? and tell more about this aspect?
5 feet tall. I know what you are speaking about as I've heard it before. This system gets proper scale down very well. Some others can get "giant head". I'm not sure what causes that exactly however..
please play some Esquivel sometimes with your system. i realize it only makes sense when hearing on open back headphones, as our hifi are not as good as yours (99.9%) so what we will hear is rather our own speakers...
A few too many amps for me but I bet it does sound really good. I gave up trying to tune my Rhythmik subs and sold them to a very happy new owner. Thanks for the tour.
Yes, this is an all out pursuit for an experience. It will help me to determine how good smaller systems are in order to sell them. I would not sell this system to just anyone.. too much going on.
A dedicated power amp per driver is, by far, the best way to go for many, many reasons including driver control, damping factor, phase, sufficient power, dynamics…
JUST A THOUGHT, REMOVE YOUR SPEAKERS THAT ARE NOT BEING USED AND YOU WILL ENJOY AMUCH IMPROVED SOUND FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, MOST OF ALL IMAGE.... ENJOY......
Not willing to do that. Improvement is not needed. Ability to demonstrate is more important. It's more about other people than it is myself. Remember, I'm a dealer. I put you guys first.
Nice video. However, I want to actually own a system to enjoy music in my home for the least amount possible which is why I visit the Cheap Audio Man regularly.
I did not say he created it. He hired Ed Meitner at Sony. Ed does not design digital circuits, he is an analog designer. So as I understand it, they left Sony together to start Emm Labs, which was Ed's company. They used concepts they learned developing SACD at Sony. Then Andreas left and started Playback Designs. Andreas' name is on the 1984 patent for Sample Rate conversion. That's tough to beat. Designed the first digital gear for the leading global professional master tape recorders, Studer of Switzerland. So whether Andreas started off with Ed or came 4 years later does not shake that he is the Grandfather of digital music in my mind.
Two things: 1 - will this improve my sonic? 2 - Big Jay just revealed that he DOES NOT get paid by Wilson and is selling his XVXs! He won't say the price, but will he take a huge loss on the resale from his 350K original price???
Define world class - random loose tweeter pointing up at a very low ceiling tile and a holographic wood hall tree/tie rack frequency reflector. Let's be real, this is just the worlds most random collection of esoteric expensive shit that he likes the sound of after smokin some fat blunts.
Yeah let's go to your house and listen lol Will sound like two blokes porking each other. Then we go to mike's after yours. 😅 That will be one embarrassing weekend for you champ
Lol. Exactly. The guy has no idea that super tweeters are much better pointed up at a slanted ceiling. Like you say. He's got nothing and is just trolling.
Yeah, it’s all crap, right? Dude, what you know about hi-fi could fill a thimble halfway. Mikey shares his years of knowledge and experience with us at no charge. Maybe watch a few episodes and learn a little bit about equipment and setup BEFORE toking your own gange.
Most liked comment, speaks volumes even though no one else has spoken. If you took 1/100th of the money you spent on the gear and actually treated this space, a $2000 dollar system with a DIY speakers and sub with apple TV as streamer and Denon x3500H receiver would run circles around this setup. All this time, gear, money and you neglected the most important part....the room....3 rockwool panels? 2 diffusers and 3 "bass" tubes in the room. Man, I wonder what a waterfall plot would like in this room, especially with things literally made to resonate....The worst part is, your followers will continue to chase after the gear instead of the fundamentals....the room. And they'll keep buying gear, wondering why their system doesn't sound as amazing as you explain it could sound.
Xlr was made for Long runns and is better shielded, going from the artist on stage out to sound tec both and back to the stage. Do that with rca😂 I have No use for xlr in my rig, but there is only 0,5m runns and No powercables nearby.
>Sanders Sound Systems. >Technical White Papers. >Balanced vs Unbalanced. I love Mikey and I use XLR balanced, but I will absolutely bow to Roger Sanders’ supreme audio engineering knowledge.
@@OCDHIFiGuy I don't think so, you have different subs and have a lot of prestige between who follow your channel and consider important your knowladge, so, if you change your mind and think about these points, I would appreciate a video about these subwoofers. Thank you "Watson"!
Oh yeah, you're right, Thomas. I should just FORGET my hobby in the house that I own due to room constraints. LOL. Instead, I put my balls on the line and made it work. Maybe you can tell us about YOUR audio system in the house that you own... 😆 🤣 😂
@@OCDHIFiGuy; my room an gear is super modest and simplistic. Room is 26x14.5x9.3 feet (L/W/H), partially open on long side. No room treatment done - never felt the need as it sounds really great. Loudspeaker are 3-way full active pro studio monitors from German manufacturer “Geithain”, model ME901k1. DAC/Preamp is Mytek Brooklyn. TT is Clearaudio Concept with MC “Benz Micro Gold”, Music Server is a Synology, Streamer is a wiim pro. As said, all is very modest compared to the gear you are showing.
Your thumbnail picture looks like the Elmo Muppet. You said that the Balanced input (XLR) is superior to RCA input in your opinion. It's not just your opinion. It's fact. It's difficult to try and eliminate all the noise that's imposed on a cable from other sources including the 60 cycles all around us in the air. It's chasing your tail to try and eliminate all the electrical noise from a listening space, where the balanced input amplifies the difference between the signals on a twisted pair cable. Any noise will be equally imposed on both conductors and as such will be ignored by the differential amplifier circuit on the input. Bottom line the noise to signal ratio is always going to be much lower on XLR than it will be with RCA. Sure, you can get better shielded cables to help the RCA but that will never eliminate all the noise picked up by the cable.
Say the name and EVERYONE will know the name of that little red bastard. Consider my job complete !! Insofar as RCA, maybe I should have just said RCA is underdesigned bullshit and blows chunks ??
DSP sounds like shit. It throws a scrim over the entire presentation. Any benefits derived from employing digital correction are IMHO rendered null and void because the transparency is literally ruined.
Music cannot be bought with money. Unfortunately. When a person claims that he has achieved something and there is nothing more to strive for, this is a big misconception. Your system can't play music, it plays sounds, that's a big difference. Most bloggers are just like you. For 20 years you still haven’t realized that you haven’t heard the music.
