I maintain a 200rm resort style hotel currently going through a reno. we didn't get a choice with a lot of the changes. number one idiot move has been the entry light switch that emulates a knurled power switch on a old school amplifier. its right by the front door of the room, at shoulder level. the shank is plastic. people have been taking out multiples a week. switch body is multiple times the cost of a normal switch. but the bathroom fan may be weak by design. the fans where I work are on the roof and pull from every room below them. performance standard is that they can hold a facial tissue against the grate. the rooftop dehumidifiers/make up air units are designed to replace the same amount of air.

I’m at hotels 75+ nights a year for work. The older hotels are usually far better designed. Most of the newer ones lack interior design logic. The rooms are also wayyyy too big. Bigger rooms means -more surface area, harder to clean -more difficult to temperature regulate -bigger rooms means less rooms in new construction. Less vacancy and higher room rates. The newer bathrooms just suck. Most are like the one in this video. Not only drab, but usually poor design.

wtf -the door would have reduced the heating and water bill, and made all the parts last longer. a simple light switch would have been so much cheaper.
