As part of the opening of "Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence from the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston" at SAM in October, we had the pleasure of welcoming exhibition curator Sarah Thompson and her collaborator Kendall DeBoer to share details about just a few of the more than 300 artworks on view.
In this video, Thompson, Curator of Japanese Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, offers an up-close look at "Three Women Playing Musical Instruments," a hand-painted 17th-century scroll by Katsushika Hokusai's daughter, Katsushika Ōi, and discusses the role of women artists in the development of historic Japanese art. Watch it now!
