I remember being 15 and they played this at a live show after A LOT OF BEGGING from the audience, and the audience sang the childrens' part.....wow...what a memory
my specific performance was at the Warehouse Live in Houston in....2008? I think I found a video of a similar thing happening by searching live performances of the song. It was very haunting in the small intimate space of the Studio room though.
this is their encore song now, they're on tour right now in case you didn't know. But if you didn't it's probably too late lol all their shows sold out almost immediately, luckily i was able to get tickets to 2 of their shows and had never seen them before last night. It was definitely something i will never forget. I grew up listening to them and it was a must to see them if they ever got back together haha
Most underrated band of all time. Been listening to them since Blueprints for the Black Market in 2003. Blessed to finally see them live for the last time in Florida in December.
my favorite favorite favorite song makes me feel like crying sometimes especially driving on the road through virginia and west virginia forever it makes evrything better beautiful song!!!!
I wish more people knew about anberlin because there music is amazing. Wanna hear another great song? Dismantle Repair by Anberlin almost as epic as this masterpiece.
This is one of the most amazing, breathtaking, and outstanding pieces of music in recorded music history! Seriously, every note is amazing and not one second of this epic masterpiece is left to go to waste. This is musical brilliance at it's best!
A quite recent band but wow, how great are they !! Whenever I feel a bit down, I just have to listen to them and BANG !! I'm up to anything, one of my favorite band of all time !!
stuhlz This song isn't talking about God. The band said it's about a father who was a pastor who left his family, supposedly for the ministry. At this point I want to say that because their is not vocal inflection or nonverbal communication in comments like mine, I want to make sure my comment to come off as coming from a know-it-all. I only know this info from a sibling who did some digging on the subject and I'm sure you know lots that I don't I just thought you might want to know.
These lines give me the chills: "Widows and Orphans aren't Hard to Find" "Wish your drinking would hurry and Kill you" "We're not questioning God" and of course the best " We're no better, you'll see, Just all of us the lost causes" I'm seeing them in La Mirada tomorrow, cant wait!
More I listen to this song, better I know my soul. It's crying from joy that something this beautiful has just reached it and my soul is now free :D This is an epiphany.
I've heard allot of people saying that all Anberlin songs sounds pretty much the same, you know what I tell 'em? If it aint broken, don't fix it. Never change Anberlin, keep on rocking!
To all you out there that don't believe in god i pray for you. And when that day comes when you have to answer to him then you will believe. God is love and everything in this world how do you think this all came here my freinds so please believe in him because he gave his life for you. God bless you all :)
I'm an atheist, and i found two songs i really liked that were interpreted by christian bands. This proves music is different than words. IT IS ABOUT THE MUSIC, because that is the real cure to everything :) Make love, not war :)
Sad that such an amazing song has so many ignorant and negative comments. I personally am not Christian, but I still appreciate the beauty of this song.
Been listening to anberlin since I was like, 7. Gotten through the worst in my life using their music. And when I felt my most callous and numb I played this song to remind myself how to feel
I find it amusing that some of these people have nothing better to do than keep track of what arguments they are having with someone likely hundreds of miles away... Epic way to spend time! Then again, I am taking 30 seconds to write this comment. Worth it.
thats one of the best part about their songs, you can listen to it blindly and just enjoy the melody, or you can analyze every last word and then truly understand the meaning of the song
I am so happy there are people like you. Yes we can't argue with unbelievers all we can do is talk with them and teach them. The Holy Spirit can do the rest. The only time we should argue is if they start teaching false stuff. Even Jesus got mad in the Bible when people disrespected what was right, by throwing parties in the temple and proclaiming false teaching to people. You seem to know the Bible pretty well. Thanks again. TazKongMcgraw
@maxoutmusic it was just pure amazement, high energy, both my shoes were ripped apart by the end of the show, and they played Ready Fuels last! It was so cool, the college crowd was awesome, they never stopped moving, and they played a perfect set, opening with godspeed and all, nothing is better than a good band and a good crowd, and thats what we got =)
I know, right? The whole song is a massive buildup to him loosing his faith, and the last 2 minutes are him finally surrendering to God and choosing to not give in. It's chill-inducing.
While listening to this song, I looked up who the patron saint of lost causes was and I found out that it's St. Jude. I flipped out when I found this out because I volunteer for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity hospital that treats children with catastrophic diseases. I never knew what St. Jude was the patron saint for, and I just thought this was a crazy cool coincidence because I love Anberlin :]
guys come on, just listen to the song, anberlin's music is incredible, and your argument is pointless because neither of you will convince the other person. if you want to argue send messages to each or something. just listen to the music, it's uplifting beyond words.
Feels like you’re miles from here In other towns with lesser names Where the unholy ghost doesn’t tell Mary or William exactly what they want to hear You remember the house on Ridge Road Told you and the Devil to both just leave me alone If this is salvation, I can show you the trembling You’ll just have to trust me. I’m scared [Chorus] I am the patron saint of lost causes Are we all to you just mere lost causes? Aren’t we all to you just lost [Verse 2] Tommy, you left behind Something that will mean everything right before you die What if you gained the whole world? You’ve already lost four little souls from your life Widows and orphans aren’t hard to find They’re home missing daddy who’s saving the abandoned tonight Wish your drinking would hurry and kill you Sympathy’s better than having to tell you the truth
"WE are NOT questioning GOD, just those he chose to carry on his course" no on ever is, but we all wonder about those that were chosen. never heard words more true
Anberlins music is awesome, there testimony, motivation, and the adversity they face is what makes them, as people, truly unique. Read there testimony, and the meaning of the song. The song is meant to be a message to the christian community that there music is a testimony of there relationship with God, and there faith in God, though it does not conform to all "traditional" christian ideas of outreach to non christians. There focus is to show the loving nature of christianity.
