That's what I figured. Touchscreens do make navigation better definitely but an OS like this really doesn't need a touchscreen, especially if you are wiling to simply use another device to alter the roms.
Yes, thicker than a phone but about the same footprint. The anbernic rg nano is definitely much easier to carry around but for older people ot might not be an option.
Word of warning, I would be careful about how you charge this. The device is great but after using my 75 watt fast charger(It has to have been this) the speakers have some awful buzzing sound that never stops. The only upside is that since the batocera firmware is crap and never truly shuts down, the buzzing lets you know that it hasn't shutdown fully. I dunno. I paid $130 for this here in Australia, I almost certainly wouldn't recommend this to anyone especially at that price. I ended up plugging a controller I had from 5 years ago into my pc and using RetroArch. (Obviously not the point of a portable device but yeah)
Well, if you are already happy with gaming on your phone, no. But if you grew up with handheld gaming devices, it feels right at home. I would recommend you try a device 100 dollars or less if you are not sure about how much use you would get out of it. I bring an anbernic rg nano with me everyday and play it on my breaks at work and even though it's very small, it allows me to carry it along with my phone so it's a bit more pocket friendly than a device like the one you see in this video. That's the biggest issue, justifying carrying another device besides your phone. For travel though, any of these emulation devices are a godsend. Phone games are cool but feel kinda hollow compared home console games. Even though the games are older they feel like they have more depth. And keep in mind if you get an android based device, most all the games you play on your phone can be played on a handheld android gaming device like the retroid pocket 3 and 4 etc.
@@DouglasThompson Currently the three best cfw available is mod3, batocera and muOS. Mod3’s good because there’s features on there that other cfw doesn’t have access to like full hdmi support and bluetooth maybe. Batocera looks the best and has a lot of bells and whistle features that lots of people love and swear but. MuOS is super subtle and may be boring at first glance but has a lot going on under the hood. Firstly, the boot is 6-12seconds (depending on when you start counting), has native pico8 and portmaster, syncthing and wireless browsing, community made themes, an awesome discord server with pretty much 24/7 support and the main dev will take into consideration your ideas to improve on the os and implement it on future updates. V11 will release some time this month and will make it even better! To me, I can’t justify waiting a long time for boot and “boot to last played game” is what makes the 35plus feel like a true game boy. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles batocera has, but it’s the slickest powerful cfw you’ll ever find!
