"In KZN, the ANC is extremely weak, it's smaller than the DA. It's in no position to put up a government [there]. The reason why the IFP held this briefing is that ANC KZN is at its mercy, [as well as that of] the DA and NFP to a large extent. They are solely relying on the IFP being able to put a counter-MK party government in the province." - political analyst Lukhona Mnguni.

Too late, the horses have bolted… they represent 30% of the vote in KZN. ANC has a stronger mandate in KZN with its 17% than MK has nationally. Ironically MK wants to go to bed with PA and yet PA has zero seats in KZN. They want to carry water for a party that has 0% of the vote and zero seats.

Who has stopped MK from forming a coalition in KZN? In any event MK does not recognise the results and have said they will not participate until a new election is called. In the 2021 local elections there were municipalities where ANC was the biggest party but were frozen out as the opposition parties including ones that were ideologically incongruent ganged up.
