Capt Chris, I was always under the impression that a swivel was a bad idea because if they break while at anchor your SOL. We had a very expensive one on our Bayliner 4087, but removed it when a fellow boater (sail boat) experienced a break during lunch on the hook. Can’t imagine that happening in the middle of the night.
That is the normal sound of a windlass. These are big motors that are geared down to lift the anchor. Hope nobody is trying to sleep in the forward cabin!
All about yachting yes, on the DeFever 44,49 & 53 the metal bow roller plastic insert is usually worn out and disintegrated. Some people just live with the noise. The other noise is the windlass motor noise.
Those foot pedals become very un-sensitive to your command after time.they sort of only work by putting pressure in one precise area of the switch. That was my experience on my Boston Whaler anyway.I would have replaced them had I not sold that boat last October.I STILL have no boat and we are approaching mid-August…used boat prices are up 40~50% up here right now and I’m not willing to take that bath so--whatever.Been busier than a one armed paper-hanger with work so it pretty much doesn’t matter.add some very unpleasant weather on my only day off per week and I’ve really only missed 4 boat day opportunities.-maybe it’s gods way of justifying this boat-less summer…?
Two answers. 1) The rubber cover over the switch does get hard with age, that is why Woody is bare foot and 2) The rubber cover is easy to change, just a screwdriver and a few minutes. Hate to tell people your shoe fell overboard because you never replaced the stiff rubber cover. Come to FL this winter and buy a boat.
I removed the rubber and let it soak in a jar of 50/50 wintergreen oil and rubbing alcohol for a week. It softens up old rubber very nicely. Besides, weather on the Swedish east coast has been awful for motor boating this summer. Warm and sunny but too much wind and big waves.
@@skunkjobb Here in the Eastern USA we have the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean PLUS the ICW for all weather cruising. Come on over, the water is fine.
@@skunkjobb that’s a great thing to know-thanks for sharing that.I guess the boating gods of the summer of 21 are keeping with the mood of the planet…it’s been an upside down year in too many ways.
