Anchor Your Target Stand, and Laugh at the Wind!

As a final modification to the PVC target stands I designed, I've drilled anchor points in sections of the base, so I can drive spikes into the ground (even hard, frozen ground) to keep those very light-weight targets from blowing over in the wind. No more digging up rocks and balancing them on the PVC base - this cheap and easy anchor solution finishes off a terrific target system, and will make your shooting excursions more fun and productive.

Used this design for the first time yesterday when my daughter and I went shooting. *Super* windy day at the outdoor range. Great test!! We didn't have the nail-mod in place, but a cinder block works wonders in its place. Great overall design!! Also used the 3/8" dowel with the sure site clips + clays. Too much fun. Got several positive comments on the setup from others in our pistol bay. Will spread the love as we can :=).

Lots of rocks where i shoot. I just stack them on the base, this technique seem quicker than rock hunting. Thanks great idea.

Oh come on! Let the wind grab 'em, and you've got moving targets! Nobody is going to stand in one spot and let you shoot at 'em anyway, so consider it skill building! :-)

I just use a small sand bag on the corners. Works good and no driving stakes into ground

I made one.First shot my son took hit the pvc it was toast.I found a 2x4 and hammered it into the ground and put the target on.Problem solved.🤪

Awesome target stand! Quick question, though. My kids and I are AR500 steel shooters with large caliber rifles. Would love to try to make one of these stands to hang a gong target on. I think by anchoring it down, it might hold up to the delivered energy from the magnum rifles when we "ring the bell" lol. The stand design might have to be a little different to actually hang the gong though. Any ideas?? thanks!

Is it best to drill the holes in the PVC before driving the Anchor Nails straight into the PVC pipe would it not split open without Pre drilling the holes.?

I would Glue the bottom hoop together chances are you wont be shooting at the ground, then have the up rights remove-able, they are small enough to store stacked and light enough to carry & there is less assembly required at the range

What are the measurements for the PVC pipes used?

The base is one 10’ length of 1.5” SCH40 PVC cut down into eight 15” pieces. It's held together with four 1.5” T’s, and two 1.5” Elbows-just friction fit. The cardboard targets are stapled to two 4’ lengths of 1x2” pine that slip down into either side of the base.
