Defeating Ancient Aspid, a mod created by 4thNoah (artist and project lead), Nickc01 (programming), and Thanatonaut (music and sound effects) to make primal aspids slightly more challenging. Winning gives you a primal aspid ally charm but its attacks will hurt you.
Really sloppy final phase but a win is a win, especially when I'm a bit rusty with Hollow Knight. I tested some of the earlier builds but hadn't seen the final versions until folks had mentioned this was out (a mistake on my part as I intended to test the final build until my WoW stuff with the new phase sucked me in and made me forget altogether). This has definitely come a long way and looks amazing.
My only criticism is that sometimes dodging one attack might make you vulnerable to another which can make things a bit frustrating, especially in the final phase.

…Someone made this in their spare time. Someone sat down, came up with this genius idea, designed the boss with a whole area surrounding it, made actually difficult attacks with actually GOOD platforming sections, and made beautiful custom music to accompany it. And to top it all off, they gave the most genius idea for a charm I’ve ever seen. This is the power of Hollow Knight fans who have too much spare time on their hands!

This is a really cool mod, and an interesting charm too. Though my only issue would be to make the “friendly” Aspid slightly different visually speaking from the base version just to make it easier to distinguish.

@@MetaFanWingTrue, but i feel like it’s basically a worse grimmchild Like why would you bring this charm over a charm like grubsong, nailmasters goory or steady body? In the trailer we saw that you can have more than 1 aspid so I’m hoping you can have some kind of special thing for this charm.

@@DragonLord555 That would be interesting. It would have to do a lot of damage (and/or have a very cheap charm notch requirement) in order to be viable. Increasing the fire speed would sound nice on paper, but that could mess the player up even more.

@@MetaFanWing Yeah Also btw from what ive seen it only costs 1 charm notch If anyone can find the way to tame more aspids like in the trailer this charm might be viable but honestly i just feel like this charm is more of a nuisance i really hope the mod creator will give it a buff that the aspid can’t damage the player or a different idea: everytime it hits the player it does the 1 mask damage like always but gives the player some kind of boost like being able to fire 3 aspid shots himself doing a significant amount of damage i just really hope they give this charm a buff it just feels like a hinderance which is sad because the idea is so freaking cool!

Stated by the people behind this mod boss Ancient Aspid has like 15 different attacks. Absolute overkill but in a good way. I love attack variety. But one big problem still exist if that's the case: Most attacks use the same animations of the boss. Like Ancient Aspid's spitting attacks. It can shoot the classic Primal Aspid projectil attack, the lasting blobs on the ground like Nosk or the bombs from Corrupted Kin.

This is awesome! The only criticism I’d add is that as a player I would need more direction when transitioning between phases. It wasn’t obvious to me that I should go to the right and upwards to continue fighting the boss.

I had a dream recently about what silksong would be like, and envisioned some kind of bright green arena with multiple floors and a lot of open space. The creepy thing is that if this boss’s arena was green instead of orange, it would look almost exactly like what I dreamt

Oh my god, I think this is my new favourite modded boss! The only criticism I have is the fact that the background is around the same shade of orange as its attacks, which immensely decreases its readability. A lot of thought and skill clearly went into the design of this boss fight, so I'm left to wonder why this is the case

i dont really look at mod content because the few times i do theyre always cool but missing the original feel of the game. but this. if someone told me during my first playthrough this was canon and in the game id have believed them. gameplay, art, animations, music, theme, its a hollow knight boss through and through!

When I’m looking at this I’m surprised that there’s no rayman-like bosses! Like where you utilized the surrounding, like slashing ropes the makes a rock kill the boss or run sections! But with the silksong tailers, it looks like we’re gonna have that now! :D

This is a really well made boss. A few minor mistakes or areas where it deviates from Hollow Knights Design rules, The only one I'd call out is the excess orange specks in the background that are not dangerous, One of Hollow Knights key aspects is visual clarity (with 1-2 exceptions) Almost all fights do a great job of signaling whats Dangerous vs What isnt. Parts of this fight muddle that. Other than that... I'd say like 9.5/10 of making a End Game fight.

The only thing missing is a nice death animation but apart from that this is as perfect as it gets. The community of this game is top tier. The fact that they created such an amazing boss fight along with countless others that actually look like it was made by team Cherry is insane.
