It may be just me! This a brilliant presentation, the best reconstruction of Ancient Egypt I have seen (and I try to see them all). One criticism, which may be unique to my RU-vid experience; the vision has a digital video counter running in a black box with rapidly scrolling white numerals for the time play of the program. Surely this is not intentional. No other viewer has reported it as far as I can see. Does Altair4 require this unsightly feature? Also, folks. These presentations are superb. Why are you not selling them by subscription or DVD? I'll buy them!

Maybe the most interesting video production I've yet seen on Egypt. The reconstructions and comparisons with the monuments provided a reference to what those magnificent buildings could have looked like when in use. Maybe someday the Egyptian government will fully restore these wonderful places.

It's actually all ancient propaganda, albeit infused with deep religious values, as was anything in the pre-modern world. This was the case for all civilizations, including but not limited to Egypt, China, ROME, Hellenistic (classical Greek I can't say for sure, this one is way beyond me). While the Roman Forum, all the other imperial fora, bathhouses, Coliseum, basilicas, and other plazas were gleaming with white marble, other expensive stones, and richly painted sculptures, the rest of the city was truly nothing better than an infested rat's nest. Shoddy apartments several stories high caught fire and collapsed ALL THE TIME. People were dying in Rome ALL THE TIME. But the leaders of Rome, from the Republic to the Empire, all used that pretty architecture to keep power by seducing you into thinking that they were gods on this world, quite literally in fact. If anything lol, I would say that modern leaders don't have nearly as much insight for how to use monumental architecture to bolster their popularity. That kind of political skill really seems to have been lost, for better or for worse, who can say for sure yet... Let me end with the notion that one really can't compare ancient civilizations with modern society. Phaoronic Egypt lasted for nearly 3,000 years for goodness sake, that amount of times is enough for entire worldviews and organizational systems to come and go, without leaving so much as a substantial trace in the written record because of how their own residents may have taken them for granted while they were still around. So, in conclusion, don't fall for the deliberately constructed glory of ancient civilizations. Your views on modern civilization, I shouldn't really budge, even if I wish to.
Amazing video! Soothing narration. Very easy to follow. The music is surreal and sucks you in, it's as if you are in the exact time periods mentioned, feet on the ground, walking around... Amazing!
Nice video. Just wanted to say that the narration is wrong about the location of Saqqara. It places it on the east bank of the Nile. That is incorrect. It is on the western bank. Generally all Egyptian necropoli were on the western bank in the direction of where the sun set and closer to the underworld. And in answer to all those with bizarre ideas about by whom and when the pyramids were built. The methods and time of building are well explained. No need to come up with fantasies about space aliens or power plants. Also, to those who want to argue over what color the Egyptians where, there are plenty of dead ones to do DNA tests on. It is well established that the ancient Egyptians had more in common with the peoples of the Middle East than they did with Sub-Saharan Africa.
Your videos are inter but you really need to remove the counter because it is extremely distracting and irritating. It quite takes away from the enjoyment of the video to the point of not wanting to watch it.

The video has been uploaded before editing. The counter needed to carry out editing and censoring etc, accurate up to milliseconds , helps in movies where they have screen time restrictionists so they use the timer to chop out some scenes, even frames.

You can buy the paid version, certainly there is no timecode. By putting a timecode it allows to protect his work, because anyone can download a youtube video and edit it as he wants. This is often the case. Better protect his work to a minimum

Very good work! The clock doesn't bother me at all ,I can focus on more than one thing at a time. But most viewers dont dig it. I'm not saying I do but it don't bother me.
If you actually listen and take in interest in what is said and showed you really stop noticing the timer at the bottom - it really doesn't become an issue anymore.
My dad would have liked this(mainly because of the colored artwork(enhanced by computer) for as he went to Egypt to see it, the paint has long since flaked off and only stone columns remain. Then he passed away so cannot see these as they probably were. We do know that the Egyptians had the full color range of pigments to play with. We also have the equipment to analyze what colors were on many of the surfaces...so restorative work. Make it as it once was, now that we have dug it up from under the sands. Though I did note that they mentioned much about Roman and Greek time periods, missing the fact that Egypt is BY FAR MUCH OLDER THAN EITHER the Greeks or Romans...like stuff them back into BCE. They say that "today, we in the 21 century are closer to Alexandar the Great(timewise) than the building of the Great Pyramid(on Giza) is to Alexandar the Great. The Giza pyramids were the last 3 to be built...out of 100+ pyramids. The step pyramid in Saquarra is the oldest pyramid(so the first) and the Pharaoh was buried under it.
The Giza Pyramids were in fact some of the EARLIEST pyramids to be built - and in fact the Great Pyramid was only the second true pyramid built. Egyptian pyramids were build throughout the Old and Middle Kingdoms and the Giza pyramids were the creation of pharaohs from the early 4th dynasty right near the start of this period.
and yes while a unified Egypt is far older than at least the famous classical and imperial eras of Greece and Rome, a lot of famous Egyptian monuments surviving today were in fact built or embellished during the Greek Ptolemaic era (Edfu) or early Roman Imperial era (Dendera)
I have always been particularly fascinated by the ancients of Egypt since I was a youngin. Until this documentary, I had no idea there were so many structures left intact. It is too bad I will never get to see them in person. The virtual reconstruction images were amazing. It must have been awe inspiring, profound and at the same time intimidating for all the foreign contemporaries of the time to see these massive, elaborate structures for the first time.

All of you complaining about the screen timer, if you can get past that, it's a pretty comprehensive video, showing Ancient Egyptian historical places & temples, now & then, in restored original form. Get past the timer, you're missing out! Great video ALTAIR 4! Overcome your "short attention span" people. Exercise in discipline.

I'm amazed about how they managed to execute the detail of everything they create and put all of these masterpieces together... such art work...This took some crazy skills and man- work considering they weren't using any of the tools, techniques and technology we use today...
My guess is that they used tools and techniques very similar to today. The tools blunted more quickly but they had people working on the tools all the time. What people don’t seem to understand is that they had lots of people and lots of time. Some of the great Cathedrals took hundreds of years to build.
@@Ubique2927 no, the story is garbage. The official story is that the great pyramid was built in 20 years, with copper tools. Impossible, copper cannot cut granite. There are 2.5 million stones that weigh from 2-50 tons, most of which had to be brought in from Aswan over 150 miles away. That mean using tools that don’t work on stones this hard, they quarried, carried >1 mile to the Nile, out them on rafts that couldn’t possibly hold them, dragged another mile to Giza, perfectly cut and finished, and placed up to 480 feet high on wooden platforms that could not possibly have held most of the stones. They would have had lay stone every 2 minutes for 20 years. That’s mining through setting, all of it, every.2 minutes. That doesn’t even include the years of planning and the years of flattening out the plateau and laying hundreds of even larger, perfectly cut and set storms for the foundation. Absolutely zero chance. None. In France, they were filling in a hole the size of the pyramid with dirt, nothing more, just filling it with dirt, and ran dump trucks every 3 minutes round the clock. It took them 12 years to fill the hole. Think about that, bow imagine quarrying gigantic stones with little hand rocks and copper chisels, dragging them to the Nile, magically building rafts that could handle 79ton stones, having thousands of them to handle of the stones, dragging them up the hill to Giza( 70 toms would take 15000men, how do you surround more than 200 around a stone?), and then precisely cut the stones and lay them( some 480 high) ALL in an avg if 2 minutes? The Nike trip alone would take days for each stone, even if they did have a raft that wouldn’t sink( no such evidence exists) and the Nile was only flooded 3 months out if the year!! Complete nonsense, it’s a lie and they don’t want to upset it because so many have so much invested in the orthodox view( academics, Egyptian government, etc.). Simply not possible
@@cbrend22 You gave me something to think about. We are an impatient people now, expecting things to be built quickly with our modern tools and ingenuity. We are in general not a people building for faith and endurance. Our sense of time is very different today than it used to be even 100 years ago. Seems like we ought to applaud the ancients whose measurement of time was very different from ours as was their creative use of whatever was available. So what if it took years to build something? So what if it took time to get from one place to another instead of flying from our east to west coast in a few hours? How prideful we are to think we must understand every part of our ancient past when we cannot understand much of what goes on today. How long did it take our pioneers to cross the country? They didn't think anything of it because they didn't have our sense of urgency and pride in doing things quickly: they wanted to get from here to there in whatever/however way possible no matter how much time it took. I wonder which of our monuments will survive 1000 or more years from now, and become tourist attractions when some of our buildings don't last 200 years. I appreciate wanting to understand. I don't ever want to undermine the past however because as we judge them we will also be judged. As I said - you gave me much to think about!
Sorry but a lot of what you said can and has to be dismantled claim by claim Copper and bronze can cut granite. It just doesn't have to be cut perfectly. It can be smoothed down. The granite core wasn't brought in from Aswan. It was extracted from the pyramid plateau itself.

@@optimusprime5199 well, calling the great pyramid a tomb, is like calling a huge cathedral a tomb, just becouse someone was barried there..what is not the case in Egypt..the kings where burried undergroung, in rooms full of inscriptions from the book of the dead..not the case at all in the pyramid. It looks like it was an astronomical observatory and a kind of flight simulador for the soul, for the initiante learn how to navigate the afterlife realm..these monuments where sutil energy enhancing devices, a harmonic machine to open a portal in our mind. @@tbg008 Also, there were no hieroglyphics found within the three large pyramids on the Giza plateau, while the hieroglyphics found throughout all of Egypt contained no images or references to those particular pyramids.
He , at the top of the documentary when talking about the design, could have said the pyramid of Giza has 8 facades and not 4 (only for information. Not a big deal tho)
If you put captions on it completely covers the timer. Also this is a 20th century documentary and so the original tape is gonna look like this. Probably no other copy. Plus it's free.
Had to give this a thumb's down due to the timer and incorrect history although the graphics are very well done . After 13 min I quit . You really should fix the timer at the very least .

@ Riche Beck That mode is indeed awsome, I often like to walk through that world to forget about a long or bad day. Although I dont care much for the teachings since I dont Always agree with mainstream Egyptology. I wished the Witcher III had such a mode, but Corvo Bianco in Toussaint (in general) is also a nice virtual place to wonder of in (of course you need to avoid the monster area´s) when you just want to unwind.
This video seems to have forgotten what Hatshepsut done in Karnak. She restored the original Precinct of Mut, that had been ravaged by the foreign rulers during the Hyksos occupation. She had twin obelisks, at the time the tallest in the world, erected at the entrance to the temple. One still stands as the tallest surviving ancient obelisk on Earth; the other has broken in two and toppled. The official in charge of those obelisks was the high steward Amenhotep. Another project, Karnak's Red Chapel, or Chapelle Rouge, was intended as a barque shrine and originally may have stood between her two obelisks. It was lined with carved stones that depicted significant events in Hatshepsut's life. Please don't diminish the Queen's great works. Isn't it bad enough that they tried to erase her? Claim her projects were theirs?
