I hope you enjoyed this adventure! It means so much to me that you spent the time watching it. If you enjoyed this, please consider subscribing. I strive to bring relatively unknown, odd, unique, and special places to you each week from the American Southwest!
---------------
👍How to be a respectful visitor to these places👍
Native American groups still live in this area and beyond today. These places are still special and hold significance.
1️⃣Don't climb on walls or structures. Don't lean on or climb over them. Many places don't even need to be visited up close. View these places from a distance or with binoculars.
2️⃣Do not touch the rock art. Don't touch or create new rock art to preserve ancient stories.
3️⃣ Leave All Artifacts. Leave artifacts and structures undisturbed to maintain their historical significance. It is illegal and wrong to take artifacts. If you want something to take home, support local tribes by buying their handicrafts and jewelry.
4️⃣ Manage Waste Responsibly. Use waste bags; don't leave human or pet waste behind. Don't 'go' near cultural sites.
5️⃣ Camp With Care. Don't camp near historical sites. No fires near these areas, and ensure all waste is packed out. Don't make fires in caves or alcoves. Camp in designated spots only. When you leave, make sure to make the site cleaner and better than when you found it. Pick up extra trash you may see.
6️⃣ Control Your Pets. Don't let pets roam freely near archaeological areas to prevent destruction. Pets are not allowed in or near sites.
7️⃣ Preserve Fragile Areas. Don't disturb fossils and please protect delicate soil and plant life.
8️⃣ Follow Rules. Don't engage in illegal actions such as building cairns, or using climbing gear to access archaeological sites.
9️⃣ Obey Drone Rules and Laws. Numerous locations in the American Southwest and beyond, such as the Navajo Reservation, Wilderness Study Areas, and various restricted spaces, enforce strict drone usage prohibitions. It is crucial to not only honor the legacy of the people who once inhabited these areas but also show respect for the present-day residents and adhere to their local laws, customs and regulations.
---------------
NOTE: I don't claim that I am the first person to "discover" these places. I just find things on Google Earth and want to go see what they are!
I do not claim to be an expert on anthropology, geology, or archaeology. I say that my channel is about "amateur archaeology". I don't have a degree or formal training in archaeology. I am just a hiker who loves to explore and see new things especially the ancient history in the American Southwest. This is what my channel is about. I hope you stick around and explore with me!
I do not give out locations to the places in my videos. I take seriously the responsibility to protect and respect these ancient places. If you do find/visit one of these locations, please visit respectfully. I try my best to hide noticeable landmarks, mountains, and canyons in my videos.

Was I the only one who had trouble spotting the petroglyphs until he zoomed in real close? Great job spotting them for us. Another great trek, thank you for sharing.

Here's a question.... did he send the drone out to scout, find them and went to see if he could hike to them then told us the drone footage was after his trek? Not like I'm saying he fakes his videos, but creative editing to tell the story is not a bad thing. Plus he never said he doesn't have binoculars.
@whitetiger1008
@whitetiger1008 9 дней назад
Nah, I did too. I couldn't see any until he got to the base of that vertical wall, even though he'd used arrows a couple times, I couldn't see them. There were several places where he mentioned the art but didn't use arrows too, just thought it was my eyesight, haha. I was thinking those grooves and ovals beneath those 4 big anthropomorphic figures at the end there, 2 obviously males (the other 2 females?), could be for foot holds as the artists 🎨 used long feathered or stick branches to paint the figures. Or to hold their ochre paint. And that long straight line thru them was used to align their heads, their figures. Awesome video, Jeff, as always!! Keep trekking! ❤

Your 3D modelling is a superb contribution to the historical record of these sights and should be recognised and applauded by academia. Nothing is forever and at sometime these sights will crumble and be gone, but your models can preserve them for the future.

He didn't model anything though, he used a drone to survey and capture footage. He then illustrated some images with lines to emphasize the pictographs.

If you're on Bureau of Land Management owned lands, free camping is allowed for a maximum of 14 days. Same in most national forests (some limit you to 7 days like Prescott NF). Main rule is to use an established campsite, usually if there is a stone fire ring it is considered an "established" campsite. My favorite campsites have been on forest service roads and beyond gates on B L M lands. Just gotta remember to close the gate after you drive thru. Oh wow, kayak camping along a river! Yes please! ❤ Awesome find on the petroglyphs. Your videos never disappoint! 😊

Hey Jeff! Being an artist, I can tell you from experience that for the most artists do everything for a reason. The sheep all facing the middle panel was deliberate. What it means I have no idea. But I do know it was definitely deliberate. You are one hell of an armature anthropologist, I appreciate you documenting the lost history of North America, thank you!

I wonder, because so many sites where these petroglyphs are very high up if it was from the days of the global flood, if indeed there was a flood that lasted quite a while, the people would have been doing art way up high, just because the could!!

Phallic symbolism is pretty common. I give you Kokopelli, and his depictions. There are also petroglyphs that depict feminine parts. It's cool that you found these - they are pretty worn and hard to see, and may not be with us much longer. It makes me wonder how much we will leave behind. Most of what we build is much more temporary than the ancients.

Everything about the ancients was all about the heavens so them appearing up so high could be they were offering up a prayer or ritual. Those hand holes looked like post holders for ladders maybe? Did you notice how perfectly circular they were? My daughter just said that ancient people had a different perspective with their drawings and those on the bottom could mean the wild life down below. It looks to me as if there have been a lot of rockfalls over the years, so a large part of the 'stairway' has fallen away, not only that pieces of rock have fallen down from above and broken it. So I'm guessing what you're looking at today is very different to how it would have been back then. There are videos where you can see that they carved moki steps into a narrow ledge that rises up steeply across a cliff face. But even then it doesn't explain how they managed to create their designs high up on a vertical rockface in safety.

I am glad you video and model the treasures you find, as I doubt they have all been thoroughly documented, and you may have the only recorded videography of some. As to why there appear to be grinding holes so high up near the petroglyphs, I have 2 thoughts. First, pecking out petroglyphs can be quite time consuming, and it may not have been practical to go up and down for food every mealtime. You would likely bring your grain, etc with you, and women to grind and cook. Second, it may have been a holy or ritual site, and ground grains might have been prepared on site as offerings, and place in the smaller holes.
