It's the family coat of arms, the sword and 3 padlocks = Dunn. The knights head on top is leaving me to believe that he was a Knights Templar . Excellent video, thank you for sharing!
I mean no offence when I say the helmet is not related to the Templars. It goes back to the days when knights/warriors wore helmets of some sort in battles, this allowed anyone to add a helmet on their grant of arms. Magnificent find GV. Thank you. Deb of Oz. XXX
The helmet with hand & key was in fact a part of the coat of arms/family crest 👌. No offense taken, he was not a Templar, he was more of a banking tycoon 😁.
Apparently, there WAS a Grand house nearby, Creighton, it was built by Dun, but he died before it was finished and never got to live there. According to "Architecture and the Afterlife" it's been demolished. THANKS GV! I Feel honored to have seen this beautiful place!
Beautiful. It looks like something out of a haunting fairy tale. I like the verses in the stone frames at the entrance. Thanks for finding this place for us.
Wow!! That mausoleum is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! It was well worth the money William Dun paid for it!! Thanks for taking us to Scotland with you, GV!! XXXX ❤💞👏💙💕🤗👍
Wow, what an awesome location!! 😮😮 In todays prices, probably half a million or more to build that? Im glad to see it hasn't been vandalized. 👍 Thanks so much for sharing this with us to see this GV. 🙂 Pete 🇨🇦
This mausoleum is totally awesome! It is in great condition. It looks like they moved a coffin out of there for some reason. Perhaps the family still looks after it. I was surprised that the door was not closed. Great video, thank you very much GV. Have a great week ahead. 😀
John Coltart Waters. His home was Craigton House Stirlingshire Scotland. It was demolished in 1940 and the interior was stripped of all wood, furnishings, ect. 11 bedrooms, billiard room,4 bathroom, 900 acres. The house was last occupied in 1939 and suffered dry rot.
The mausoleum was in a beautiful setting and very well looked after. Strange that the door was left open. The light shining through the windows was very fitting. Cheers GV xx
I can not believe how absolutely amazing and beautiful this mausoleum is. I am very grateful for you to have shared it ❤️ 🙏 It's a dream come true to have discovered it and to get a glimpse inside. So happy it's still in great shape especially the roof. With the age of it when it was built to now it's incredible that it is in really good condition. The builder's of this as well as Mr.Dun's place of rest shows a lost art of that kind of talented craftsmanship❤😔 Thank you again .. Washington state USA
Wow. Such beauty, it left me rather speechless, (that's difficult to do, says witty husband, lol). Tto think that people born over 200 years ago still rest there - It is truly a magnificent place. Thank you GV. Loved it xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤
North Carolina was established by many Scottish people. There is a Dunn, NC. People with the surname of Dunn. My grandmother was a Hume, and we go back to King James V. And others. This place is awesome. NC, SC, and VA had lots of Scottish immigrants, and some were slaves for the Jacobite Rebellion. Some of my ancestors were, and some didn't make it.
😮wow! . amazing! And from the looks of how big his house was I'd say the masuleom was just pocket change. Wow.. Magnificent! 👀 just waiting for sue to peep in one of those windows lol 😂. Love this place, it's so peaceful. Thanks for sharing GV always look forward to yours and sues videos.. . 😎love the music 🎶
These wealthy people who built these mausoleums, crypts etc obviously never imagined that they would fall into such disrepair. That there would always be money and people to keep these places in good repair. Enough said.
Amazing find GV. From the elaborate tomb to the size of the Manor they must have had many fortunes! I wonder if the family has died out? No one has been buried there in a long time.
I LOVE these places you find to visit. You are so respectful of these Graves and Mausoleums, and your lovely Irish 'lilt' suits your commentary perfectly. Thank you so much for showing us these forgotten places, they are all beautiful and fascinating for very different reasons. Thanks again - take care 🙂
Yay! You made it to Scotland! I live only a few miles from Fintry, and must definitely search out this mausoleum now! Wonderful video, as always! Do come again. (Old Logie Kirk, near Stirling is well worth a visit if you can, and Aberfoyle Old Church has an iron mortsafe too. )
Great Video realy nice and peaceful place thank for taking us their. That big sarcophagus for William Dun I think he is in the floor under that. If you look at the palmer crypt graceland cemetery chicago it open but has two sarcophagus on tope for him and his wife however they are barred underneath.
What a super excellent find Cathal. Just extravagantly beautiful inside and out. Lucky you to find such a place with a marvel inside! ♥️☘️ PS It is nice to see it has not been vandalized.
Bless you GV for all your hard work bringing us this video..I love mausoleums and boy this one was the King of Mausoleums..Looking forward to more gem's from your Scotland trip..Sending you love from London 😘
Wow that must have cost loads of money good find GV how many people are in there do you think take care GV love watching your videos lovely video thanks ❤👍
I am so glad you guys made it to Scotland. A very haunting Mausaleum...home of my ancestors. Great video😊. Thanx GV, you and Sue have a wonderful time in Scotland. ❤
He may have been, "Well to do", as they used to say, but the construction of the Mausoleum and the monument were common in the age he was living in, so it would not be as expensive to do then as it would today, as we don't do such construction today.
Beautiful mausoleum with a fabulous sarcophagous. The whole place is amazing!! I think I've read that lock on the monument symbolizes love...3 wives perhaps? Well done indeed. Top looks cast. Hand holding the key pointing upward symbolizes the way to heaven.❤Mr. Dun sure planned ahead!!
