The huge and ancient Farallon plate subducted the proto-Western coast, uplifting the Rocky Mountains, and draining the Western Inner Seaway. Then the Pacific plate drove north splitting the Farallon plate west and east of the Rockies, but uplifting the Colorado Plateau and the Nevada highland desert regions, and scrunching up the modern Sierra Nevadas range. These features are all part of massive plate tectonics under your feet.

The fossils in Nevada aren't very well preserved compared to the ones I've found in the Sandia mountains. Here in Las Vegas it's nearly impossible to find any fossils... they just seem to have not survived although about 5 miles from my house I found some pretty well preserved Chaetetes milleporaceus coral. I actually thought it was petrified wood until I figured out it was a coral. Seems to not be a very common variety. Anyway, trilobites are one of my favorite fossils!

I love how much time you’re spending in Nevada and the things you’re explaining. They are in my backyard and in the places I visit all the time. But if you’re spending this much time in a place, doesn’t it make sense to pronounce the name of the place as those who live there? Please?
