The amphitheatre is one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of the ancient Greek city of Halicarnassus, now Bodrum. It dates back to the 4th century BC and the reign of King Mausolus. In its heyday, the arena had a capacity of around 13,000 spectators and was mainly used for gladiator fights and theatre performances.
