I never pull BN spawn, but they are not a priority in my fish room. I always pull my L134 spawns, unless the males eat the eggs before I get to them. Always, a piece a wood and katappa leaf in the breeder box. The fry will rasp at the biofilm, which is said to jump start their digestive systems. The biofilm should always be their first food. Commercial foods 2-3 days after the yolk sacs are completely absorbed. 😉👍

Good advice especially about keeping calm. So easy to get excited and make a mistake.

Very nice video! I think the only point we diverge on is, I remove mulm from the breeder box twice a day with a turkey baster. I also use leaf littler in the breeder box. Some breeders use tiny pieces of wood. The thought is not that Ancistrus need wood, rather that the fish attach to the wood or leafs and their sucking action on the semi-porous material aids in digestion. I’ve done several comparisons and can say there is a noticeable size increase with Fry that are supplied leaf and wood chips. In the 10%-15% range, depending on hatch, at the one month mark. And, I’m talking same parents for fry comparisons. Thanks for doing the video!

Small Fry Aquatics I do the same, always. The fry will usually start rasping on the wood and leaves before they ever take commercial foods. It’s believed this is important and helps jump start their digestive systems. Of course this is what I’ve been told by others who are much more experienced with plecos than I am.

The main thing I wanted to know was when do you start feeding them and what do you feed them in the breeder box? What an omission...

I like to use a turkey baster to blow the eggs loose instead of a knife. I think it's better to pull out when the males are young. It's very stressful for them and they are going through a period where they're either not eating or eating less which could slow their growth

Jeffroz! Amazing video, thank you. I have a question/problem I have an airstone in the breeder box but I don't have any shrimp and due to the current pandemic there nothing available near me. I have fungus on some of my pleco eggs. What should I do? I have them floating in another tank and I'm also worried the fungus will harm the fish in there....thanks in advance for your help!!!

I pulled the eggs with fungus on them. Today they all hatched. How should I go about feeding them? I know they’ll eat off their sack but what about after that? Also. How long should I leave them in the breeder box before I put them in their grow out tank?

Can I simply move the wrigglers into the breeder box after they hatch? Let him do all the FIN work.
@Jeffro
@Jeffro 3 года назад
Yes you can definitely do that I’ve did it that way before as well! But the quicker you pull him off the quicker he will eat again! Being a parent and doing the parent duties is hard on the male he doesn’t eat for almost a month constantly fanning the babies! So it is easier on him if you pull the eggs early!

I've got a red sea reefer 250ltre I've started to find them in my bottom sump swimming about the sump is about 40ltre . Is it safe to leave them in there ?? Ime afraid if I put them back in the main tank the bigger fish will eat them, do i give them away or just leave them be ??

Hey Jeff, I only had 1 female bristle nose in my 45-gallon. I've had her a couple months, she may have been eggbound, but I removed her since I saw she was dead in the tank, and I said wow her belly is swole and slightly pushed on it and bout 20 little eggs popped out and I have the eggs in a breeder box but idk what to do since I have no male and not sure if the eggs will even survive. Should I immediately go get a male bristlenose and put him in the breeder box?? All other factors are a go. Just not sure what to do next. Thanks!

Hi sir, very informative video, I already subscribed but I got a question for you, I have two pairs of BN plecos in my tank and both laid eggs, but eggs of one pair went white, from time to time I've seen babies bn plecos that are still growing been inside the cave where the eggs were, does that mean that they ate (killed) the eggs ?
@Jeffro
@Jeffro 3 года назад
It most likely means that the white eggs weren’t sterilized in time in Bristlenose plecos you need to have a reverse trio two males to one female
@jacquesbaker1557
@jacquesbaker1557 2 года назад
You should not "pull the eggs" from any aquarium fish because by doing so you are not selecting for good parents and in a few generations you will have fish that can't actually take care of their babies. This is what happened with angelfish and people had to re - cross wild fish with captive fish to fix it.
