The show is disappointing as a black woman it feels so forced and social justice narratives are being forced down my throat instead of storylines. Now each character has a minority friend like a new accessory. The characters are not who they were. I miss story instead of contrived ideological ideas being pushed down my throat. It can be incorporated in a much better way.
I agree - I think the original SATC has gotten so much flack in later years for its lack of diversity that they are trying to change that narrative this time around but it feels forced - I am willing to let them stumble around a bit here but hopefully it will find a flow that seems more natural.
Boring cringe fest. 4 episodes in and i see nothing but woke nonsense. Wokeness does not apply in the real world. The dialogs that these ladies have is so embarrassing. I feel embarrassed for them. These are intelligent women in their 50s. They dont need to apologise for merely existing. Focus on the characters and not the wokeness. Fire the new writers and bring back the old ones. The storyline is so dull. Ratings for this show is in the toilet. Be more authentic and stop pandering
we love the characters. everyone is gorgeous and dynamic. the writing on this series is absolutely terrible. why has everyone been dumbed down and made ignorant? these are bright new york city women. if there’s a second season please focus less on being woke and inclusive and tell stories that feel more authentic and heartfelt. also, a few laughs would be nice.
The answer is easy, they are trying to adhere to the woke culture, make sure that they include all usual “diversity” staples and not offend any “sensitive” woke groups, all of the above leads to a dumbed down dialog.
@@gabybrik5525 honestly i relate to the audience they are so desperately trying to please. And that's exactly what's wrong with it: it feels desperate. They're trying too hard and none of it feels actually inclusive. They abandoned the almost offensive hilarity of the original (that we loved so much) and didn't even reach the inclusivity and "wokeness" they're aiming for.
@@gabybrik5525 just want to add that a lot of the conversations that feel off and dumb would have been hilarious were they instead voice overs. It could've worked that way, maybe.
@Viktor , Yes !!! Woman in their 50's with money , know how to behave in society . Especially , Miranda . She's been in the corporate world for 30 years , in NYC . Why is she suddenly a fool ? I love the show , anyway . Still , it could have been great . 😘
I’m sorry - SATC is my favorite show of all time but And Just Like That should never have been made. The writing is poor and the woke agenda overpowers the characters stories.
Exactly, in the end it could be stupid or frivolous and out of touch with reality but fun, but it's so depressing and forced, I couldn't end the 1st episode. It s really bad...
I so tried to watch this but I just can’t. Horrible! I’ll just watch the old shows occasionally when I need a SATC fix. The inclusivity in the writing is what it is, but why push it so hard, It’s just insulting how stupid the writers think we all are. Kim Cattrall was wise not to agree to be involved in this crap. No Patricia Fields, and it’s obvious the clothes are just horrid! I’m out!
As a fan of the original series, this “revival” has been a disappointment. It’s like the writers forgot who these characters were and are intentionally showing them as the three most unlikable and cringy mid-50’s women in New York. Terrible
so you forgot that Charlotte always cared so much about how her life looks from the outside? that Carrie trashed some guys stuff after first night with him and often exploited her surroundings to find material for her column? and that Miranda was very awkward everywhere except court room?...
@@madammadonna I remember the original series very well and those episodes were fun. These new ones, not so much. Miranda has been made such a ditzy and by far she’s the most unrecognizable from the SATC Miranda. That Miranda was always assertive. Episode 4 where Charlotte is trying to collect black friends killed that character for me, no matter how much they will use her new friend to “validate” she’s inclusive. I don’t even remember what the friend’s name is because she’s just there as a token minority with no real dimensionality to her. And the same goes for the other POC characters they have introduced. And Carrie has been so insufferable, acting indeed like she’s 65 or 70, so sad, and the whole podcast storyline is so risible. Like really? They couldn’t come up with something more creative for her? The show is so frustrating. I echo what others have said in that it feels so desperate. I tried four episodes but the last one was so stupid and cringy I don’t know I can attempt another one.
this show is now too terrible to watch. Boring and desperate. Should have stayed at the end of second movie. Hope it does NOT continue. 10 episodes too long.
@@frfr-ps3qg My question was flippant and sarcastic. She's been a multimillionaire for decades. Most fans didn't want a reboot minus Samantha, or a faux virtue signaling drama that completely removes everything that made the original series such a success (the ride or die friendships, the comedic elements, and the lighthearted escapism.)
the show is heavily focused on white guilt, white people shaming, stupid white people trying to help black people who aren't asking for it, wokeism, white apology, basically the entire storyline of Miranda is extremely sad, weak and makes me sick.
I get it. The characters have to move on. But this revival has been nothing but a disappointment. Stop pandering and be more heartfelt. Miranda would never let anyone, let alone Brady and his gf talk to her like that. Charlotte has become too self absorbed to even care about Harry. Carrie has lost Big, but her character is so 1 dimensional. Nothing about this show is good. There is no need to be overly inclusive. Just be yourselves
This show is terrible, and the original characters are not being portrayed as themselves older, but they are being portrayed as totally different people. People in their mid fifties aren’t geriatric. And that wig on Cynthia is too obvious.
It's like how they did Tina dirty in the L Word: Generation Q. In Season 1, it was written that Tina didn't go to Kit's Funeral, she died off screen. Even though Bette and Tina are divorced, she still would've came to Kit's Funeral.
I love them , but that's true that part, it wasn't who Samantha was as a friend she was always there for everyone & when Big passed away Samantha would've have been on a plane in a flash to be there for Carrie but to send flowers but not respond to a text from Carrie saying thankyou , so not Samantha
@@Crystal-45369 oh yesssssss him asking for a divorce to his husband then leaving a letter as well to Carrie AND just when he was getting into the circle more , it didn't all make sense really ... He is another character that would have never left Carries side to manage a tiktok girl , come on could have been written a little better it was disappointing & didn't do his character justice , agreeing on this
🚨🚨 Not a real round table without Samantha. I wish ego could have been set aside so this could've been done right. The Blk characters feel like props (as a Blk woman many of us feel that way) and overall the show is trying too hard to be woke, it feels forced (and I'm a Dem). The writers need to take a nap
I totally agree with you! I consider myself fairly liberal and it just seems like a play for “wokeness”. I shudder even typing that word but the stories don’t feel authentic. As you expertly put it some of the characters feel more like props than people!
If any of these actresses had a look at the first scripts for this series and accepted the work anyway, they obviously didn’t give a rip that it was awful and they stayed for the money. Were these characters in an isolation chamber all these years? Why else would they never have heard of black people in positions of authority or people who are transgender or non-binary, etc. to the extent they don’t have a clue how to act? OMG anybody who was an SATC fan has lived in this world and is comfortable with it. Quit hitting us over the heads with “woke” sledgehammers. If you arrogantly think we need it that says more about you than us. And why on earth did you take the once wonderful character of Miranda who used to be smart, strong, and independent and turn her into a stammering whimpering fool begging for approval? I watched three episodes and found each worse than the last. I’m done.
This cringy woke fest they made just shows how these actors and producers are so out of touch with the reality. I dont know what is the targeted audience but people who like genuine stories and not check boxes and pandering for sure are not
yeah, the genuine stories are lacking. We now just have a grief for a loved one, fights inside the family for various reasons and with children and secret alcoholism... why so many people cannot understand that 55 year old ladies with families cannot have the same lives they lived when they were single 20 years ago...?
Exactly! It seems like three actresses and the producers must live in a privileged bobble far away from everyday life. I don’t understand why they can’t see themselves how their attempt of being woke and inclusive in the series looks so desperate and unnatural
They ruined a show that used to be iconic. I'll probably continue to watch this mess. It feels like an accident: a horrible situation you keep staring at, although you don't want to.
I soooo wish this re-boot wasn't so condescending to the viewers/fans. I happen to be 57 yo (the characters demographic) and the way they have written the characters, they feel like they are in their 80's. NONE of my contemporaries (and I am a New Yorker) ever refer to their lives in the OLD way that these characters tend to. This re-boot made me go back and start re-watching the original and it was sooo much more fun than I even remember. Of course there was serious moments and that is fine, but People in their 50's HAVE FUN!! PLEASE listen to the fans and write a season that is LIGHTER & LESS PREACHY. #my2cents
Nothing can beat the original SATC it was fantastic to this day the show is still relevant, but this one I don’t know . I have seen it but it just didn’t do it for me
Honestly they could have just started a fresh series without any relation back to the original series. There’s no connection to SATC at all. None of the characters is actually having any!
I was thinking the exact same thing, the Friends actors just can accept that they can never beat the original and have peace with that, this is just grasping at straws.......
I never liked this a reboot trend… When the show ends it ends… The era that they came from also ends, it usually just doesn’t work a decade or two or three later. Unless it’s focused on their kids… And even then… No please.
Why would they do this to us? Do they not know who the SATC audience is at all? My heart breaks more and more with each episode, yet I have to watch because I loved the original show so much. The writers did these iconic characters dirty. They're just gone. "Sad. So very, very, sad."
I love SATC but sadly not AJLT. They all look like one big happy family. To me the episodes we’ve seen until now have unfortunately a very very low standard. My guess is the fact that they have felt waaaay too comfortable making it that they’ve forgotten to check how the end result actually came out.
I just wish you just make samantha absent a white elephant rather than saying she abandone her friends just because she was dismissed as a publicist and disnt even come back for big funeral. Thats evil and distasteful SJP!
Also the way they scripted Willie Garson and Kim Cattrall out of the series was lazy writing and insulting to the actors and their characters. SJP has a mean streak because she is a producer and if she didn’t like the writing she can have a say on how it should be, neither Stanford nor Samantha would have left the way they were spoken of… the script is garbage.
Oh Dear - I’m depressed. The OG SATC has always been eye candy and laughs for me but in this fake reboot I can’t stand Charlotte’s face & loopy voice; I can’t stand Miranda’s ugly clothes, annoying voice and brain fog; mostly I can’t stand ANYTHING about Carrie, especially her hideous outfits. Never mind the other crap I can’t stand about this wannabe reboot - Boot it Out - I’ll go back to the OG series.
1.The show is BAD 2. They were absolutely awful to Kim Catrall.Shading her character with the “Was I just an ATM to her?” Absolutely nasty 3. The styling is awful 4.Someone please tell Kristin Davis that she doesn’t even look like herself anymore 5.Just can’t stand the wokeness 6.They have treated all the men like some disposable caricatures 7.They act like they are 85.Not 55.
Your number 5 here resonated with me and it's exactly why I'm massively disappointed and actually disgusted of this forced PC stuff and making white people, like Miranda, a complete bafooon who is choking on wokeism yet 20 yrs ago a top lawyer & climb of corp ladder
There are no words to describe how aggressively, miserably, shockingly awful this show is. Once smart empowering women.. now they're awkwardly and defensively apologizing for living. They're irrelevant, lost, confused and being told what to do and think by self-righteous people sometimes half their age around them. It's like they all had lobotomies and lost all their self worth and place in life. Apparently 50s is the new 80s... oh and by the way the SATC key message of female friendship prevailing through all was undone entirely in one petty line in episode one.
As a white woman of this age, I am very disappointed that there are so few roles representing us in a positive light. These women have a platform, and how do they display this age group? As a bunch of clueless, entitled idiots who no longer are necessary to exist in society. I mean, this is the message that has been shoved down our throats for centuries! Have these women learned nothing over the past two decades? Where is the wisdom? The sensibility? The passion for life? Why isn't Carrie traumatized by the loss of her husband!! Why is Miranda all of a sudden into women? How can Charlotte and Miranda live in NYC their entire lives and have no idea how to act around people of color?? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SHOW?? If the only intention was to shove wokeness in our faces, they're about two years too late! The theme is offensive to people of age and people of color. They are really tone deaf to their audience!
Feels like that's why Kim Cattrall left. Her character was embracing her womanhood the best. She was unapologetic, open, ahead of her time and not judgemental. She wouldn't of been able to fit in this new serie even if she wanted to.
No offense but Michael Patrick King had proven he doesn’t have the range to tell stories that aren’t white. Hey literally throw all the POC characters in with no nuance and to solely cater to the ego/benefit of the main white characters. Super sad HNO green lot this considering the amazing writing and storytelling of other diverse HBO shows like Insecure and Euphoria.
For me, I disagree w/ "....solely cater to the ego/benefit of the main white characters..." ON the contrary, the show is heavily focused on white guilt, white people shaming, stupid white people trying to help black people who aren't asking for it, wokeism, white apology, basically the entire storyline of Miranda is extremely cringy and makes me sick.
I don’t know if either of the three actresses had a hand in any of the writing, at least I hope not. Therefore, I blame the writers for this hatchet job, for this mess that is the first 4 episodes. 🤯😵💫🤨🤬
All three of them are executive producers of the show. They for sure had a say in it. I guess they are okay with it as long as they got that paycheck. This is worst than the SATC2 movie.
@@LVLexus Ugh! I agree with you regarding their main interest being money, and the comparison to the other mess that was SATC2. 😏 Kim must be thrilled to be no part of AJLT.
I loved the original series, and was cautiously optimistic about this update, but, so far, I'm pretty underwhelmed. There's no Samantha, Willie Garson passes away unexpectedly and they apparently don't really acknowledge it in the story, because they bring back Big just to kill him off? And I get wanting to show more diversity in the cast, but I agree with the many other people posting comments that it feels forced. I'm going to watch the whole thing, however, I don't know that I'll be encouraging anyone else to watch it. Meh.
Great comment. I agree and am disgusted with the forced, over done "wokeism" and "white guilt" , basically Miranda's complete story line is horrific. She used to be a high profile attorney as a character, competing with the big boys of wall Street, etc..and to be relegated as a bumbling fool who won't stop yacking about what seat she sat in at some workshop
There are a few things that have irritated me in the show, The adding of so many minority's is getting a bit over the top , when the girl in the wheelchair came in at carries work at the radio station was a bit much, but one of the main things that is getting on my nerves is them including coronavirus into the show ! we all know about coronavirus, we are living it , we watch shows like this to forget about whats happening in the real world and to escape ,but instead they want to constantly remind us that coronavirus is here throughout the show it extremely annoying!
My mom thinks she's old. She's 57. I thought she talked about her age all the time. After watching this show I have to complaints about my mom:) we're not ageists. WRITERS AND EDITORS ARE. Stop mentioning their age in every scene! Can we just have outer memories erased please?
SATC was always entertaining and well scripted but now it’s just an over the top ramming of WOKENESS AND PC CRAP… what happened to enjoying a series without all the messaging?… telling us how to live and what we can and can’t say, who we should be friends with and who should be dumped from you life. Kim Cattrall was very smart not to be part of this train wreck and Big died in the first episode because he wanted to.
Big big fan, but it seems I am watching characters in their 70’s. Why do they seem so out of touch and physically decrepit? They should be allowed to naturally be older and see things from an older perspective socially. There seems to be such fear of seeming anything other than totally hip to the politically correct modern point of view. The present characters don’t hold true to who they were. It’s as if you’re ashamed of them. Kim Cattrall, who was my least favorite, got it right about the characters not having more to say. I mourn their downfall. I may watch, but it’s like when you slow down at a train wreck. I want to look away, but I can’t.
I’ll keep watching simply out of FOMO, but thus far this revival hasn’t been nearly as satisfying as I anticipated it being. Just like the reboot of W&G, the magic is gone.
It’s crap, you’ve let your fans down in a terrible way. Now it’s just pandering to the wokes. They’ve all lost their personality in this snooze fest. I gave it the first four episodes after being a diehard fan for years. I’m done now.
Honestly the series has ruined show and my memories. The second movie already left a bad taste in mouth and “And like that the sour taste is back” it’s cringe self-righteous pretentious annoying and ignorant. I absolutely hate it
I hope it gets better next week. This show is supposed to be funny, a little shallow and so far…not even soap operas from Mexico are so dramatic like those 4 episodes. And what about kindness? What happened to the characters in the show? Everybody is so mean! Jesus!
And, just like that....... My very first New Years resolution is not supporting H'wood. Too many Stars are not doing enough with their star power for the world. (TRUE STORY) Holding these multi billionaire's accountable.👋
I could barely watch after the first episode. Struggled to finish 2 and 3 and then gave up. I can't imagine a more terrible and disappointing reboot. One example was Miranda -- are we really to assume that a liberal attorney living in NYC for decades would be so clueless and ignorant? And it just goes downhill from there.
The most powerful scene on TV … when Carrie finds Big and comes to him when he is dying The symbolism of her not caring about the shoes …… is so powerful - I’ll never forget the power of that scene
I cried out...."THE SHOES!" Kidding. I'd have been there with a defibrillator, especially if he had a history. He should have quit the cigars and whisky. RIP BIG and yes I've loved the new series. It's grown and I enjoyed the stories! It's a new animal ...
SJP as Carrie is everything. Kristin Davis is fine, she's just boring on the show. Cynthia Nixon as Maranda is straight up AWFUL. They turned her into a Karen. All I see is Karen now. I don't blame Kim Cattrall for not joining. And Just Like That is a train wreck. And now it has real life scandal (Chris N). We really didn't need this. The pandering fake wokeness, as a Latina, is insulting. Other than SJP/Carrie we really don't need this. They could have just done a solo movie with Carrie and had the other 2 in the background.
I just can’t get back into it without Kim. It’s just not the same and the reason they gave on the show to write her off was absolutely the cheapest reason ever! They couldn’t think of something better? They couldn’t do something to give some dignity?
@@rennavaight9692 the same could be said for the actors and audience of this show. When will everyone grow up and realize this show has/had run its course and it’s more than time to move on.
@@angelinamiari1613 Kristin/Charlotte is still beautiful and it’s people like you who are part of the reason as to why women feel the need to alter or enhance their looks. Especially, as they age. There is no problem with her speech I can hear and understand her clearly. Listen to the content of what she says and judge her based on her character traits. At the end of the day, Kristin is successful and being paid to look the way she does and talk the way she does. Are you?
@@BlackAmericanPrincess1 no... I'm not paid to plan fake dinner parties with all black guests in order to have a token friend. I work in the criminal court system in Chicago, where I've been for 23 years now. I don't have the need to dress up & play pretend. Why take a previously intelligent character...and Charlotte was my favorite along with Samantha... and make her brain dead? Seriously, how much "acting" does that take.
So far last episodes they bringing up Samantha as total trash, that is just painful to watch as an old SATC fan. You should've just let character gone its seperate way like real life. Don't take it out from here & there, and keep trashing its character. It does harm entire Show's foundation, not just one sinlge character. All of your Production team way old enough to know what is most important thing for the show(keeping its legacy & history) but you ain't acting like one.
I’m the same age as these women and have been a fan since day one. I own all the seasons and was sooo excited when this reboot was coming. Watching it has never made me feel so old in my life. The ailments and the constant reminding of how old they are is embarrassing…like they’re 80 yrs old. Michael Patrick has lost his understanding of women now and shouldn’t have bothered. And yea, I get it, the world has changed and tolerance has changed but it’s like they were just beamed down into it and don’t know how to live in this world. The only people that don’t know how to navigate thru the changes are those that protest. The rest get it and move on and adapt. This should have been a completely different show than a reboot of SATC.
I've been watching it, and I agree with all of the below comments. As well I am glad they are back. They are fighting an uphill battle with two of the male leads' situations... Is Cynthia wearing some sort of hair piece?
It looks like it’s missing something. When you watch the original series, each episode has a great story but this new one looks like it’s dragging on and on. If Samantha is in it, it will definitely make the story more interesting
SO true! And more shade...the fact that SJP had to make a point of saying that Kristin and Cynthia are now executive producers, when Kim wanted to have a bigger role all along and SJP would never let her have it.
Silly when people call it the Golden Girls when actually it's the Golden Palace! If you don't know, the Golden Palace was the failed attempt to recreate the Golden Girls after Bea Arthur decided not to return, it just wasn't the same without the strongest character!! Watching this only makes me have more respect for Kim Catrall not only as an actress but as the only one with the sense to leave well enough alone. The only thing more painful than watching the series is seeing the actresses in interviews droning on and on about how great it is and how great they are!!! Yikes!!!!!
I read the reviews before watching and was expecting the worst - but it was better than I thought. Love and miss these girls so much that I was so happy to see them together again, and there are some really good moments. The original series was so smackingly smart and fresh that this reboot probably can’t help being a little disappointing but hey, there’s fashion, interesting storylines and NYC so just go with it!
I finished binge watching it tonight and loved every minute of it. My mother passed away unexpectedly last June so it also felt therapeutic. Can’t wait for season 2. ❤️
The whole thing looks like a never ending skin care commercial. I was waiting for them to push a treatment for middle aged wealthy white women. Maybe in season 2.
I wasn't expecting SJP to look as good as she does in the show and in this video.Even from interviews a few years ago she doesn't always look as good as this.
The reboot is a disappointment. It misses the charm and fun of the original series. It was like let’s drop into 2021 and deal with all the issues like we were in a time warp and completely disconnected from the entire earth. The kids with the exception of Lily are all insufferable. I wanted to love this so much. 💔
Let's be honest here, Kim Catrall is right. Looks like They kinda bullied her because she was be coming more popular than Sarah Jessica Parker, and was not sitting well with her since she was the Main character and part of the production of the show. The other 2 were gladly în her shadows, but when Kim started to shine, they acted like în school yard nad started isolating her. I can't blame her for not wanting to keep contact, they weren't nice iwth her and all out of jealosy. I alsoike the fact that her character had a natural end of story. What they did here was a forced keeping up with the tre ds while hsowcas8ng how old they are. Samanta would never go that low. She was the most authenitc and unapologetic out of all of them. Probably even her character wouldn't fit with the woke tre ds they were trying to display, because she would have told them as it is. I really understand her well, it was a wise decision for multiple reasons
There is nothing sadder than older women having a ‘discussion’ with expensive jewellery, makeup and talking about a show which bombed, as though it was a grand success. Embarrassing 🙈
