I agree! That movie and these words he spoke at the end were and always will be in my mind....and that was only the 70s! Imagine how things are now....thanks Al and whomever wrote this.....❤
The thunderous determination in his voice as he yells "my client, the honorable Henry T Fleming should go right to fucking jail! The son of a bitch is guilty!" is just utterly riveting. After everything he dealt with in the movie, he finally gets his moment to rip into the judge.
"Hold it, hold it, I just completed my opening statement!" What an incredible scene this is! Al Pacino totally rules the screen in this movie! Thanks again for sharing this with us! :)
I'll tell you all why .. Throughout that opening statement, you can see all the stress and pain in his eyes from all that happened throughout the entire movie. His partner went crazy, he lost two clients (one killed himself and the other shot down by swat), him being forced to defend a creep judge who was blackmailing him. Even if you didn't see the whole movie, the whole recap is all over his face, the tears in his eyes tell you the entire story. That to me is superb acting from a legend. I've seen all of Pacino's movies and that is why this is my absolute favorite of all of them. He deserved that Best Actor Oscar nomination and he should've won for this one.
I believe it. Would imagine that they would have any right to refuse to defend (moral wise, much evidence stacked against). >deep down, the poor guys having to stand OJ and Casey Anthony (everybody knows "did it") *If someone constructs time machines and bring the influence on the lawyers everywhere*
@@stevehess7976 To be fair, he didn't say how many of them have actually done it but how many of them wanted to do it. It's gotta be hard defending monsters, even if it's your job. They don't do it but I bet a whole lot often wish they could.
I disagree with 71dude about the movie not being as good as this final scene. IMO the movie was outstanding....it showed the absurdity of a justice system that permits guilty people to go free, innocent people to be locked up, corrupt judges, deal-making, certain lawyers that don't give a shit about doing a good job, and Lawyer Review Boards that think they're doing something to right the ship. All of this while an honest lawyer (Pacino) tries to maintain his integrity and be an honest lawyer.
Pacino is a great actor. But there are others that are high up on that list. The late Alan Rickman, Jack Nicholson, Christopher Walken, Robert DeNiro, Mel Gibson, the late Richard Lynch, Burt Lancaster, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, ect.... . The list is very long with these outstanding talents. 🤗
At 0:45 there is a man holding a device in front of his mouth and it looks like as if he's talking to it. What is that? Is that how they used to record court sessions back then? Didn't they use stenography? Or is it something else?
@charlietarr youre missing the whole point! the movie is not about teaching law & order and how to win or lose a case, but how corrupted are the system sometimes and justice is not a clear meaning in these courts. if they want to teach how to be lawyer they would have made a different movie...
Another Actor who would have been brilliant was Jerry Ver Dorn who from 1979-2004 played Attorney Ross Marler on Guiding Light. Both Guiding Light & As The World Turns were both owned by Proctor & Gamble.
So the only issue I have here is that in real life this would cause an irreversible mistrial. I mean they probably couldn’t even file this again, case over. Raping judge wins, honest lawyer gets (at least) disbarred. I doubt he could get a gig as a paralegal after this.
Do you guys think that Arthur got disbarred after he "told the truth". I don't think he'll ever be able to live what he did down as honorable as it was.
The parking garage is a really great scene as well.......but yeah....this one is the best. I love this man. No other man could have played this part! Just can't stop watching him play this scene.
No other actor could play, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Michael Corleone, Tony Montana, and several other characters he played. Just think they didn't want him as Michael Corleone.
I've always thought Pacino just sitting on the steps was the perfect ending because it shows how its just business as usual. Lawyers just walking out discussing their cases and Jay just walking into the courthouse tipping his wig is the icing on the cake basically confirming this is all a shit show..
This should be played in an add by the Democrats, starting in September 2024. Trump as the usual defendant and Jack Smith or Fani Willis as ( Al Pacino) talk about art imitating life ... literally 🤣🤣🤣🤣
