What a sensitive and so well balanced take on this beautiful song. I think it can be common for jazz pianists to destroy the heart of a song with an overkill approach with improvisation and unusual chord structures but this is just so gorgeously restrained and a tender, gorgeous performance.
It's good that Fred hasn't really "jazzified" this tune which would really render it too "way out". It's a very tasteful rendition which characterizes everything he plays.
Finding the notes and melody of such a very sad and heartfelt song had to be a "little torture" to create. Every time I hear it, I find myself settling into a more reflective and thoughtful train of thought. Thank you for this beautiful music.
