Just got our Jang Seeder delivered today from Johnny Seeds. Two hundred dollars less than if you order from Dubois. I was told by Johnny Seeds customer service that the seeder was designed by a Korean farmer who still owns and operates the company in South Korea. Thanks for this amazing video on the seeder and all the other content you provide, Curtis.

I bought a Jang from JohnnysSeed this year and it works great. The previous one I owned was a earthway and it crushed all my radish and bok choy seeds. I had to stop and clean it so often, very frustrating. Thanks for the tips. I still use the earthway for beets and beans

Anyone solve the spinach & beet roller problem?
@bluenetmarketing
@bluenetmarketing 7 лет назад
Maybe consider that electrostatic charge is causing problems with the MJ24 and the spinach seeds. I notice that some seeds seem to really stick to some things or fly away from them, especially when dry, because they have higher electrostatic charge properties than other seeds. Some kind of grounding might help, or not using the type of material they use for their disk, or maybe painting the MJ24 disk. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Curtis. If I ever get to the point of needing a Jang I'll definitely pick one up. Hard to justify on a smaller scale like mine when the Earthway does a decent job but It certainly isn't as accurate as a Jang. Dubois is a fantastic outfit to deal with by the way.

This is my first year using a jang and i've been using the LJ-12 roller for beets and have its been working well for me, I got mine through Johnny seeds(only $405us from them) and have been really impressed with seeder except for when I tried to plant peas and green beans with it but its not really designed well for larger seeds like that.

I use the N-6 roller for beans, just make sure it is in the correct way as it has an arrow on it. Peas dont work well but i use an old planet jnr planter for peas which works really well.

I have used the Jang for about same time period as you. As good a tool as it is I made suggestions to the importer and they have made a few changes to the tool since then. I still think there is a little room for improvement like all screws should be captive and furrower depth adjuster rod should have a flat on it so when you tighten bolt it will straighten itself. I don't have the unit in front of me to check the roller number but I too couldn't find one for beets so I modified one and I'm satisfied it works well. One other thing I do for carrots and beets is I remove the felt covered steel piece from the hopper that cups the roller. This will allow seeds to disperse a little more random if they won't perfectly singular themselves or fit the roller just right.

theres a knob there so you can adjust the handle left/right so if you have wide beds you can place it more on the side you want to walk on it and not have to lean over the beds to control the seeder

Your clarity and precision is amazing. I was doing this stuff 35 years ago.Where was 'BOOB' tube whenya needed them? Haven't seen ALL the videos yet, however, …IF.../when you find the time, please begin a series on your experiences with marketing. Me….I virtually hate the middleman. They take ALL the fun out of it when doing wholesale especially. One thing I could ask you at this point is, what techniques regarding the 'seed bank'do you apply to keep the beds/soil clean since your cuttings of the ' mista' salad and arugala, spinach must be perfectly clean.Also, what sorts of fertilizers are you using and are they organic. ? Me; I use worm casting juice and phosphate rock (soft or colloidal) either dry or in soluble form. thanks guys-keep up the most excellent workums. jerry

Curtis, just cleared 50x20 in Northern Westchester, NY - getting deer fencing around because they live here, with the bears, etc. Now that it's clear, I have to consider how to make rows - this tool seems great for planting, but what do you think I need to help the soil, make the rows, lay the drip irrigation (and where in the rows) - real novice that could use your advice. THANKS

Hey Curtis, I ordered a Jang seeder about 3 weeks ago and all distributors I checked with have them on backorder until mid March. Johnny's did go ahead and send my seed rollers. I ordered them all with 12 holes. I recently ordered your book and see on your chart that you mostly use the 24 hole rollers. Will I be able to work with my gear ratio and get the spacing close like Carrots about an inch apart etc?

Have you EVER found a seed roller for the Spinach on the Jang??? I'm trying to decide between the Jang and Earthway. Johnny's is recommending I use the Earthway for my Spring Mix seeding. Which kinda surprises me since i thought you had said you HATED the Earthway when you used to seed your lettuce.
@curioushooter
@curioushooter 7 лет назад
How does it compare to the Hoss? Most people soon find out the Earthway is junk. This seems to have few, if any advantages, compared to the Hoss, and it costs twice as much. Both are chain drive, both have a hopper that is removable. Both have a furrower, but the Hoss uses a double disc (which I would think is better than a plowshare), and the Hoss is easier to make custom plates for.
@graysonestrada6385
@graysonestrada6385 6 лет назад
curioushooter I have the hoss seeder and it works good. I also have the jang and what I like better is that you can change the gears to get different densities which means can use the same roller and get different spacing. on the hoss there are set gears and you need many different plates to get different spacing. The jang also has scrapers on the wheels to remove the dirt which the hoss does not. I also find the jang is easier to push. Both seeders work great but the jang gives you way more options.

I have used the Jang for the past three months. (my first season farming commercially). I am not getting great results. The seeds seem to spill out randomly despite my setting the cogs correctly, so spacing is all over the place and a lot of seed is wasted. Many seeds also ending up ON TOP of the soil (not getting buried/planted). Any suggestions?Also, I was convinced that I needed the double plow in order to use the 24-hole rollers. So, depending on the roller, I have the extra step of swapping the single for the double plow and vice versa. I'm getting lousy results with either set-up. It appears that you're using 24-hole rollers with a single-plow. Is that the case? Thank you, excellent videos, much appreciated!
