Mrs Thompson your story touched my heart in a way I was not expecting and I thank you for that. Keep your story alive there is no telling how many lives you will touch. On feel that everything happens for a reason and maybe God did this so that through your a light on awareness will shine. God bless you and Mr Cotton

Wow! This story brought tears to my eyes. What are some of the lessons that can come out of this extremely moving story? Hopefully most people know eye-witness testimony is very unreliable. It MUST BE paired with forensic evidence because forensic evidence does not lie. It does not have to be DNA. Anything from shoe prints to hair fibers will do. If there is ONLY circumstantial evidence then you are either looking at an innocent man or a very poor investigation. And if you are a single woman living alone at least make certain your bedroom door has a heavy-duty lock, and use it!

That shows how nice of a person Ronald was. A man like that didn't deserve that :(

I feel horrible for what Mrs. Thompson had to endure. However, I think the "law enforcment" officials who were responsible for sending Ronald Cotton to prison for a crime he didn't commit need to be made to pay.

James Bevan I totally agree with you. Detectives need to be held accountable.

The detectives were acting on the information given them by Mrs. Thompson. From her description, she guided a sketch artist in drawing a picture of the assailant. She then picked Ronald Cotton from a lineup of 8 or 9 men. She was SURE of her identification. To blame law enforcement is illogical in the extreme.

Leslie Anderson they contaminated her memory with faulty questioning and identification techniques. It wasn’t their fault per say because they didn’t know how what they did would affect the reliability of her memory, but the law enforcement as a whole needed to reform because they were working with a faulty system

WeiYinChan so she gets no blame for being involved in putting a innocent in prison during the prime of his life

More like women centric laws. You guys always want to punish a man even if he is innocent. And you people always do. And then there are women who falsely accuse , and then men has to prove and even after proving she walks free when his complete life is destroyed. Tell me its not a joke!! Innocent before proven gulity does not hold when its man vs women.
