@@williambellamy1024 Plus, in a universe where everythings connected, its quite believable that someone would use paper or at least something that - once you read it - you could easily dispose of it. if it's something as secret as "boss, our entire way of life is about to come under fire" I think it might be just a slip of paper that gets eaten, burned or otherwise disposed of immediately afterwards. but thats just me, makes sense from where I am coming from, but that's because I'm highly paranoid about technology. lol

One of the main factors that killed off monarchies and slavery on Earth was industrialization and ensuing mass manufacturing. As machines replace slaves, the moral abhorrence of slavery becomes ever more obvious. As more people have their standard of living raised they come to see the inequity of a hereditary ruling class and hierarchy of nobility. It is something of an accident of history and geography that made America see these effects relatively early on and to become the world’s military superpower that it is. We do still have a very few hereditary monarchies on Earth but they are the dwindling exception, making me wonder about the psychological of the xenos that held on to that social system. But anyway, America, fuck yeah!

Well I mean people still buy Marx's BS even today, despite it being thoroughly disproven before Marx even died, and before Engles had his chance to edit and then release Marx's sole, and entirely unfinished (due to laziness) work, the Communist Manifesto. And even after an insistence on trying various variations of Marx's ideals all of which resulted in dictatorships and genocide we still have people who fully buy into it, many of whom just so happen to be in charge of nations and vital national institutions for many nations. So a galaxy wide embracing of low effort, low engagement political ideologies makes sense.

@@markfergerson2145 I would argue that capitalism is what killed (most) slavery. Industrialization was caused by capitalism. Communist nations are slave states that still utilize industrial production.

China calls their Navy: The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy), also known as the People's Navy or Chinese Navy. Which does sound odd to me as an American but we did have the US Army Air Corp back in the day. Sometimes it could just be the way language is translated and or what you (the general you) are used to.

Technological development doesn't affect all facets of everything equally or simultaneously. Interstellar travel doesn't necessarily require extremely advanced weaponry. The development toward space travel HERE was largely aided by weapons development, but that doesn't mean it's the only way. We are but ONE example, and we have no other comparison points. There's a sci-fi short story in this vein (I don't know the name) where, it turns out, that FTL travel is actually super easy tech to discover, and most races discover how to do it during their renaissance period. Earth is an exception to that rule in the story. Thus, an invading army of mounted knights from space are horrified to encounter machine guns when they attack. Probably unrealistic... but we really can't know for sure.

@Swiftbow , Actually, there really are just inherent connections between the various areas of technological development. It doesn't work like a fictional game with distinct tech trees. For instance, the entire difference between early space discovery vehicles and a new age in weaponry came down to something as simple as whether you put a personnel capsule or a bomb on the end of the rocket. The difference between travel/transport tech and military tech is just down to whether or not you put guns on the new vehicle or not. The first bombers were literally just single-engine bi-planes that the occupants tossed bombs out of by hand. Guns are just contained fireworks behind a projectile, and the first military rockets were literally just fireworks that were pointed at people. The same lasers and radiation tech that is used in advanced healthcare schenarios essentially *is* military technology. The only difference is use case, not tech. There is no such thing as a distinct and separate "military" technological advancement sphere. All "military" tech is just pre-existing capabilities that are simply pointed at other people instead of not. Do you think *any* interstellar space-faring species has managed to go without discovering nuclear fission? What exactly is the *technological* barrier between a reactor and a bomb? Yes, you could argue that they don't happen to *use* their advanced technologies *as* weapons, but the technologies still exist. There may be a *usage* gap, but there would not be a *tech* gap regarding military capabilities, which is what the story is asserting. At least not in our favor. A hammer is the same technology whether you are driving a nail or smashing a human skull. Any species capable of interstellar travel, by necessity, has very, very big hammers compared to us.

Well paper can’t be hacked. So it would make sense for one off confidential information to be printed on it. Plus you can tell who stole or leaked it by encoding the linguistic style itself.
