Job 12:7-10
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
9 Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every creature

A few years ago I found a swarm of bees in an outside water heater enclosure at my place of business. People said to exterminate them, but I remembered seeing a guy come to safely and efficiently remove a queen and her swarm from a tree at our local high school about 30 years before, while school was in session at that. It was quite a spectacle. So I called a local beekeeper and he came out right away and got the queen and her consort. The beekeeper got himself a free hive. Good for him. Such a good feeling to know you are doing your part in helping these precious little creature do their thing. Where would we be without them?

I love how beekeepers talk about the bees. It is like... how human women should talk about other women -- supportive, reassuring, respectful.

This video reminded me of something I learned from watching my father, that even the smallest creatures deserve respect and gentleness. He never made a spectacular show of it, he would just put his finger down and let the little thing, from an ant to some tiny flying insect, crawl off to safer ground. He never seemed to have that "swat first" attitude so common in humans. He was by nature a gentle man, who always told me, "Can't punish them. They're just being who they are."
@joseeallyn9950
@joseeallyn9950 3 года назад
I love that story about your father. My dad was the same. He would move an ant "nursery" to make them move away to another place in his garden. He never killed anything except wasps who, he said, killed for pleasure and not food, just like humans.

i'll always try to do that with anything I find, the only exception are flies and mosquitoes. And even flies I'll leave alone if they leave me alone. :D However mosquitoes get no mery. I am literally their prey...so they deserve whats coming to them.
@PresidentHedgehog7956

I learned that years ago too that even the smallest creatures deserve your respect! I get these flies that come up through my drains and I escort them outise using A bottle all the time, they're quite clumsy and fly into water allot so I help them out but sometimes they die because they got too wet, I still don't know which type of fly they are though.

I just got hired at a 5 star resort as a cook but found out an activity they teach is beekeeping. I am hoping that I can take these classes and eventually learn to do it myself well enough to have my own hives one day. With the plight of bees and wasps right now, they need all the help they can get and also I have always been fascinated by bees.

Wonderful things bees. I once watched our local bee man collect a swarm -- he banged the side of a cardboard box and they marched straight in. Fun watching bees hanging around the original swarm site, telling incoming stragglers where the hive was. 30 feet away, invisible behind a car, and they flew straight to it. Respect!

They are so cute! I have had a nest in the roof of my house for an estimated period of over 30 years.... and love having them around. I top up their bee watering bowls with water whilst they are knocking about and they as good as gold, the only time(s) I have been stung us when I have trodden on them by accident when walking barefoot near the pool, but now I have set up the bee bowls for their water source.... they don't tend to drink around the pool anymore, wonderful insects and should treasured and loved by everyone!
@finndog2759
@finndog2759 3 года назад
You need to get them out of your house. The weight of the hive will weaken the structure of the house. And if they been in there 30yrs, I say you got intensive rot.
@Dobviews
@Dobviews 2 года назад
My aunt had the same thing happen to the pool house. She noticed them in 1990 and she did not vall a bee service. Sadly the continued building weight of the nest and rot caused the entire ceiling to collapse into the pool house. Not only did this cause the complete loss of the structure many of the bees were lost as well.

Excellent, I just stumbled across your videos. Love the barn build those guys are killer wish you were my neighbors, ha, ha! It looks like you're a great bee keeper. I used to have bees for years until the colony collapse and mites were being shipped in 3lb packages. I was able to keep some of my colonies healthy for years, but the winter kill is tough in Wisconsin and my last colony was attacked by a black bear. That was my best colony I got 65lbs of honey off of that one my best year. I still have a lot of equipment and plan to start up again when I'm retired and have more time to spend with them. Loved my girls:) My favorite thing was to watch them bring in pollen. It's been years since I've had bees and I still have buckets full of some of the best wild forage honey I've ever tasted. Liquid gold! Shout out to your bow for the barn build:) Men can accomplish anything for their wives. I built a house for mine and keep trying to get to the end of the honey do list that keeps getting longer! God bless you both for your hard work and perseverance.

What an unusual swarm. Usually when they go to the ground it is a sign that something is wrong. There was a swarm that landed in the parking lot of the Nicholasville Library and the lady who tried to rescue them found that the queen was dead. She was either exhausted or she froze to death or both. Thanks for your video, it was really great. You are the best!

Honey bees are like the hemoglobin in our blood. It takes oxygen, binds with it, holds on to it, then when it is supposed to it releases the O2 into our cells in our body! The less hemoglobin we have in our blood, the less energy-efficient, movement, brain fog and body start to wether away very fast! The healthier and higher the number of bees, the better the flowers which end up in our food chain, is the best of whatever the bees touch in that area! I hope my grammar didn't destroy this comment. I am a Paramedic and would love to have some of my own beehive to care for, but not enough room or time to properly care for them! Your daughter could have just saved a billion bees just in her own life spane and shortly beyond due to depending on how much the bees multiply and spread out! Great job daughter and great job to you for training and spending time teaching your daughter your knowledge and caring spirit! It started from you! Give yourself a pat kn the back, hug and kiss to your daughter and brag / instill intrest like you are doing here. You, through your daughter, through your work, your video on here, then all those out there on RU-vid land who continued your work, learned or got interested in bee keeping and Rescue may have saved a Trillion or so bees in a 100 or so years! ❤ Super happy you was recommended to me by the algorithm!

Be wary about using a 5 frame nuc box for more than just capturing a swarm. Just a week ago I learned the hard way that the swarm might insist on larger quarters ASAP. I used a nuc box to hive up the swarm, and even though I gave them a frame of brood and four frames of drawn comb, two days later they abandoned their new 'home'. Lesson: I should have quickly given the swarm a 10 frame box!

@@mileawayhoney Several days ago I hived up a small swarm. To be specially sure to keep them in the ten frame box, I gave them a frame with brood on it. Several days later they absconded, despite the brood. 50 years of beekeeping, and I still obviously know nothing about it.

May of been a virus. We learn every day. I opened a hive that was getting ready to swarm but the hive had 5 frames that were empty. Look like the queen ran out of room on five frames and said were outta here. Bees are crazy. I re waxed the five frames and moved the queen to a split.
