Pretty. As a retired chief engineer, I'd like to pass the rest of my life in such a ship, tired of big oceaners. Unfortunately, my wife thinks other way.
I'd love to know more about ships like this, as well as deep sea vessels from the same era. I'm a history student and if you are interested, I am super interested in learning more if you are willing to share!
This size ship eventually removed the mast and the derricks because shore facilities had bigger and more efficient cranes. You can still see "midships" between the two hold hatches where the mast was mounted and they kept the winch that controlled the runners of the derricks. Apparently they have only one winch for both holds. There is another video of the same ship with the mast and derricks still functional
Can you tell me more about ships like this? I'm a history major at the University of Puget Sound and I'm interested in knowing more about coaster ships!
There is a picture of the "Petertown" on my video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mcLdHJcS2kI.html , not a great picture as I was videoing my latest steam plant, but that little ship led to me being a merchant navy Chief Engineer
I am not sure, if she is still sailing, have not seen her in many years, but I agree, she is such a precious beauty! All my very best wishes for you to soon find a good ship.
nanba25, I lived a part of my childhood aboard a Flower class rebuilt as a merchant ship whose captain was my father, and iI can tell it was a lot bigger than this one.
R Verro, Was the HMS Violet (K-35), renamed La Güera after rebuilt as a freighter and owned for IPASA, and finally Claudio Sabadell owned by Fletamentos Marítimos, where my father sailed as captain.
She does ! She came from Delfzijl via Eemshaven loading up freight at Emden Harbour and leaves to Scandinavia : Atypical trip for an old " lorry of the seas" as old Coasters are often told
John K. Lindgren, it's just an optical effect due to the zoom of the camera. The max speed of that motorship must be about 10 knots or less in open and calm seas.
