@@vincentmontgomery9770 Izzy is fantastic, but his next few fights will decide if he can hang with Silva. He won 17 fights in a row, stylin' in all but one. And if he doesn't get his leg snapped he probably would have won some more before his decline. Izzy can beat Du Plessis, though he will have to improve his offensive striking. One of the things that made Silva so great was that he could move between the low guard counter-striking, using odd angles and precision, to karate-style blitzes that would push you up against the cage. His boxing was simply better than Izzy's. Now that doesn't mean Izzy doesn't have it in him. He probably has the best distance management with his kicks and counter jab/check hook in MMA. But there are times in fights (Whittaker II/Cannonier/Strickland) where if he had challenged his opponents forward movement he would have had (even) more success. Also, shout out to to Magomedsheripov...he could have been something special.
@@MrBlaqgold seriously. I remember staring at my brother and saying " Did he really just fucking do that?" Felt bad for Forrest that night watching him run all the way to the back.
@@theginjaninja6885 what a moment - im super jealous. When people ask me why I watch UFC... that fight and AS vs. Rich Franklin are my go toos.... if they don't get it after that, they never will 🤣
To see Anderson Silva go on a damn near 7 years as middleweight champion was just something special and observing his technique and utilizing different maneuvers were just fluid.
I think he should pay attention to the GOAT. "Stopping" is different than "just reacting." Even though Silva agreed, I'd rather listen to him elavorating rather than getting interrupted. Take in the lessons of the greatest!
An icon and a legend of the game. Dude genuinely moves like water. But yeah it's about stopping your opponent and defending yourself not fighting or beating people up. That would apply in either martial arts or sports
I remember watching this a few yrs back on Simeon Pandas (the muscle guy) channel, and this was one of the reasons he started doing cardio. Muscles mean nothing without endurance...period.
He lost his belt at almost 38 years old. He then continued to fight fighters like Izzy and DC, who are legitimately top 10 all time in UFC history. His strength of schedule is unmatched for his age, he was fighting over a decade past his prime, let alone his actual peak. He really loves to fight and train, he is different than most athletes and fighters. We should not judge people based on losses when they are in their 40’s. We should appreciate that we can still watch a master at work.
BJ went 1-1-9 in his last 11 This is a guy who was the lightweight champ of the world. A contender at welterweight. And someone whos record even back in the daya t the time was star studded. His fights and every loss was to a divisional GOAT at the time. Or someone who went on to become it. So yeah he fell off hard And the reason you hadnt seen someone fall off so hard. Is because there was only one Anderson Silva. If Khabib didnt retire same would happen to him. If Jonea doesnt same with him. Silva was still enjoying fighting so he kept doing it way more competitively than BJ.
but chael told me this guy never lost a round cause he never showed up to a fight, now hes opening gyms and training ppl?! sucker born every minute, aint gonna be me
If you didnt know any better and saw these two men on the street about to fight, you'd assume the big guy would beat the shit out of the smaller guy. And you'd be hilariously incorrect haha
@@BoxingLegends2024 Which one? the prime gracie that cheats, and makes people sign stipulations before they fight??... or the prime gracie that cheats, and makes people sign stipulations before they fight?...oh yea or the prime gracie FAMILY that got DESTROYED by Kaz. Dumbest comment EVER. Anderson would KILL ANY Gracie.
@@BoxingLegends2024bullshit, lol. Anderson is a black belt in BJJ and the Gracies’ wrestling is inferior. Anderson would obliterate any of the Gracies with his superior takedown defense and superior striking.
@@GemsOutdoor I'm a few years younger than he is. I was there, kid. When he showboated an entire fight to the point Dana was pissed, and when he showboated and got clipped on the chin and knocked out.
@@lukehelleksen68 He became complacent and then he got old. That does not take anything away from the 13 title defenses, some against guys who moved down from 205 to fight him. Yea, he ruined his legacy at the end but honestly, haven’t a lot of the greats done that, Like Connor for example?
Any advice given by Silva has been time tested and proven. These comments below in the video are disrespectful. He was champion for a reason youngsters 💯
This is the concept of control. All high level strikers use some form of control in between strikes which is a big part of how they manipulate positioning. If all you do is strike without controlling where your opponent is going, you are vulnerable to attack and you’re also less likely to land. If you can control their position, you always know where they are, they’re unable to explode into an attack, and you can find them easily with your own strikes. Control is a core fundamental of striking.
Agreed.. high level boxers use variations of a known punch to control how the boxer either moves or when they are shelled up to get off either more punches off or a higher quality type of punch off an angle they created using the concept of control
@@zzzzzz69grappling does use control, of course, but that much is obvious. I think the other commenter is noting that striking uses control too which is probably less obvious. Control is arguably the primary mechanism of determining the winner in a grappling bout
Silva is a legend. But not a lot of people like watching his fights though. Some of them are actual snooze fests. But his Forrest Griffin ko, and some others are legendary. I prefer modern fighters over old pioneers like Silva and Aldo. Today's fighters are more evolved, more well rounded than ever before. It was pretty rare to see fighters like that. The competition is stacked now. I think Islam makachev might just be the only fighter to finish a #1 and #2 p4p fighters back to back. And the only one to face a #1 p4p, while being #2 p4p. As his first champion defense title.
@@misanthropist3 "cheat"? WTF is that supposed to mean? Other than using steroids, I don't know what else is in MMA is considered "cheating". This ain't a fucking video game. The problem I have with Silva is that most of his fights are very boring as shit, and unimpressive to say the least. Silva probably has a couple fights, if that, that are considered legendary. The only one I'd count is the Forrest Griffin ko. All his other fights, are literally snooze fests, and I can definitely see why people don't like him. These old fighters are not as entertaining as fighters are today. They struggle like hell to finish ANYBODY. And they are not true MMA practitioners. They are only competent in a couple facets of mixed martial arts. They're not well rounded like everyone is now.
@S475-pb2dp If you don't know besides the roids, when it's literally staring you in the face in this video proves you know nothing about the rules of MMA. Anyway, I'll let you know smart guy, you can't leave your arm out extended.
He took UFC by storm! I seen it! He waxed all the tough guys in the UFC! He’ was scary’ until I seen how charismatic he was. He was absolutely funny and a is a people person.
@@KWillo Yeah, but he looked much the same even in his prime. He never looked like some super athlete. In fact that was a big thing that the UFC showed a lot of people. Being ripped and having huge muscles isn't really that important in a fight. Skill, endurance, and mental toughness are the things that matter. Of course power helps, but with the right technique and skill you don't need much power to win.
@@no_nameyouknow there's a difference between bodybuilding muscles and fighting muscles.Anderson Silva was anything but normal. He pulled off Tekken moves in real fights.lol

His prime was weird. It felt as though nobody could beat him. But his fights mostly became boring decisions where he just toyed with his opponents the entire time instead of trying to end the fight. So it was a lot of him messing around while dudes struggled to touch him
@@lewisyates9946 Did you not watch or know about the Thales Leites fight that happened before that? The one where Dana said he was embarrassed by Silva's performance. @@lewisyates9946 Maia, Thales Leites, Patrick Cote, etc.. He had several boring fights in his prime but it was mostly because guys wouldn’t engage with him. Izzy had a similar problem when he was champ. Long counter strikers can have boring performances when their opponent won’t come at them. Then Anderson fights a marauder like Vitor or Forrest and he gets a spectacular KO.
@@Delltah1 they weren't exciting fights I agree but he was still dominant and put them fights aside he was a killer and that Damien mai fight was just weird. People who didn't watch the sport when silva was champion and are just getting into MMA they just look at his record on Wikipedia and make up their minds (talking about the guy I replied too)
Anderson Silva dominated for years. His fight IQ was so much higher that he was able to make opponents who were physically more imposing than him, look ridiculous. It's all about commitment to the craft/discipline. Great martial artist.
A guy is coming at you with a mean intention, what you gonna do? Allow him to move freely and still try to fight him? Doesn't really add up, stopping his momentum is the opponent's demise.
Silva was one of the greatest to ever do it. He danced around that octagon. His defensive and evasion skills are as elite as one can get. He’s still got some of my favorite highlight reels of any fighter yet. The way he’d ever so slightly move out of the way of punches and kicks was incredible. It’s mind blowing how anyone can have such acute vision and coordination.
