Why only 5 minutes? I could watch this for 10 hours. I consider this to be not only the greatest story of survival, but the greatest story period that I have ever heard in my 50 years of life.
I'm 47 and couldn't agree more, when I'm feeling down I like to watch videos about this and the movie just to remind myself that I have more in life than what I sometimes think, it must have been so difficult doing what they did and it also reminds me to never give up RIP to all those who lost their lives 💓
Right there with you bro. I saw alive when I was 8 yrs old and I've been obsessed with his story ever since. It's the only book I've read more than 3 times. Most unbelievable survival story ever. Just incredible
This is such a phenomenal story and I have so much respect for these men who survived in those horrible conditions; most were in their early 20s. I read the book Alive in the 70s and I'll never forget the story or these men.
I just want to hold Eduardo and tell him his brothers are proud of him. He and the ones still living, and those who have been returned eternally to the mountain. Bless you Eduardo. Sending love and peace.
That's one of the most tremendous videos i have seen in my life! No film can reflect the real emotions of the survivor. I did not know he is there every year... Doesn't abandon his friends. Eduard Strauch is an artist. I have seen his works. A very deep person. Thank you!
Oh, how much I want to give this man a hug Eduardo Strauch. But Iam too much away. Someone there hug him and tell him it¨s alright. All they are people to admire those passed and them who survived. Bless you all.
These men who had to go through this must have been a living nightmare. I can't even imagine how horrible that must have been for not just the survivors, but those who died as well. God bless them all. Nobody should ever have to go through that hell. They definitely earned their place in heaven in my opinion.
The documentary mentioned on this short film is History Channel's "I am Alive:Surviving the Andes plane crash" which if you haven't seen it..watch it! It is great!! Nando Parrado narrates it with his characteristic powerful delivery and director Brad Osborne does an amazing job making this the best documentary on the Andes Survivors.
I grew up back country skiing and I can tell that head wall is brutal. To do it after being starved for two months and no equipment? Unbelievable determination.
Amazing documentary! I also was drawn to the story as a child and read the book several times. Even now as an adult I can't even feel the full impact of what all the survivors went through. Amazing story of strength and the will to survive against all odds! Truly an inspiration!
This is a testament to the remarkable endurance of the human spirit in the face of the most adverse conditions one can imagine...people viewed them as living miracles at the time. How did any of them go back to living a normal life after having survived something like this is beyond me. The book is an unbelievable survival story.
The fuselage is buried in the glacier. It has not been seen since the early 90's. A lot of airplane parts as well as seats and other artifacts can be seen. See the Andes Survivors page on the Alpine Expeditions website (see video description for web address)
Is there any move to preserve these artefacts? I notice you mention that there was still a lot of things strewn around the wreckage site. It would be great to exhibit them in some way.
“Out of the silence” great book by Eduardo Struach. True miricle they survived with every breath. I also finished Nandi Parrados book “ miricle in the Andes “. He is supernatural, some kind of living Diety to make it out over those mountains to Chile. We are all dead but trying to be alive now ❤
History’s documentary and ¡Viven! are the two best documentaries on this subject! Wish I could do this expedition- would be the adventure of a lifetime
I would LOVE to see this site , wow that would be amazing!! This story has stuck with me since the movie first came out. Read the book a couple times, and watch the movie and documentaries over. and over again. Nando is one of my biggest idols! Thanks for the vids Ricardo!!
I'd love to be able to watch this documentary 'I am alive' but as far as I can tell it has only been broadcast in the USA. Any ideas where I can watch it?
Slightly off topic, but I can't help noticing how much less snow there is on these mountains than in the representation of conditions back in 1972. They were there over 2 months from October to December, so roughly the same time of year, but the area is depicted as snow covered, and you can see that from the original photos as well. And yet the footage from January 2010 shows a lot more bare rock and it looks a lot warmer.
borrowing a comment from another YT vid "The fuselage was burned by the Uruguayan Air Force in early 1973. What remains of it is likely under the glacier although there a lot of aircraft parts spread out around the crash site."
Yo quisiera ver la documental de la última expedición que Parrado y Canessa realizaron, sé que la hizo Ricardo Peña para National Geografic en el 2005. Si hay algún enlace para verla online ya que no la pude ver en el cable. Desde ya muchas gracias…
I wonder what happened to the victims skeletons and to nardo's. mother and sister Susie. I saw a picture of one of the survivors sitting and to his left there's a spine picked clean of meat.also were there any bodies left intact.
Además el año 72 nevó más de lo habitual y en los últimos 20 años ha disminuido mucho la nieve con el cambio climático. Cuando era niño recuerdo bien que era común ver nieve incluso en verano.
