My degree is Horticulture. I design on site wastewater systems. I do no till lasagna gardening. Do you think slinging straight urine on the piled up organic matter helps earthworms and the soil microbes?
Hi Tom! Adding urine to an actively composting pile is a good source of nitrogen (and should help deter larger pests too!) as long as you aim to add an equal volume of carbon each time you add nitrogen, you’ll end up with a balanced microbiome. For gardens, I prefer adding microbial foods only to compost as opposed to the soil, as I want the microbes in relationship with plants and not dependent on me for their next meal.
