Andover Kansas tornado.
April 29th, 2022
Part one, looking south from central street.
.......Clarifications.....
It passed 700 yards east of us and the city building was spared by about 100 feet (lots of city vehicle damage though.)
I've been in KS for 60 years. This is the second twister I've seen and the first I've filmed.
My wife was upset and scared and I was an idiot to keep filming, but I had a very good grasp of where it was and I could see it was moving NNE. We had a basement just a few steps away. She was right to be as upset as she was considering how many people's live were at risk.
It was just us two at home, no pets and a basement 5 seconds away.
We just moved to Andover 9 months ago. It's a great town. Andover will be just fine and stronger than ever soon. Thankfully, nobody perished.
If you would like to volunteer or donate to the relief, please do....Here is the united way site www.unitedwayplains.org/disas...
I'm dedicating this to my mom. She passed in December 2021. She was raised on a farm in Ford Co Kansas. She always said when living on a farm, if you saw a twister, you "bend over, grab your ankles and kiss your A** goodbye"....I'm pretty sure she was driving this twister.

They are not. There are no "natural disasters", that's a judgment because they destroy our properties and endanger lives. It's just natural phenomenons. They wouldn't be disasters if there were no humans around to call them that. Also, these phenomenons are needed to step for step delete old structures which have been weighing down the earth's population a lot, we will most likely see more and more of these events coming.

I went through a massive tornado at a friends home in north Topeka back in 1978. The major damage it produced missed their home by a block, but devastated the large trees in their neighborhood sending one straight though the second story of a home about 6 houses down on the other side of the street from theirs. Could hear the roar and the house breathe with it. I had been close to others, but they were all rural and not as devastating. It was hard on my friends husband because he watched from the south end and knew it was close to his wife and little boy and he was feeling helpless. He cried when he finally was able to get through the damage and saw that they were fine. It took real courage to stand and video this. They can change direction and hop so quickly. This is the shot of a lifetime. People storm chase all their lives and don't get film This good. And right from your own living room. With the extra added effect of your wife freaking out in the background. Well not really in the background. But the terror in her voice, as her mind is processing the power of this tornado ripping through your neighborhood. You can't fake that kind of fear. And you never know how bad it will be, until it's over, and you can come out and see the damage. Wow.

That is one of the most epic, jaw-dropping, incredible, literally scientific study-worthy,, archival quality tornado videos I have ever seen (and I've watched a LOT.) Demonstrated great spatial awareness to maintain both safety parameters and to keep shooting what I'm sure he was aware was quite a phenomenal and rare opportunity to so closely capture an intensely powerful atmospheric/weather event. This one will be studied for years to come. Well done! Very sorry for your community and neighbors, but I'm glad you dodged it by, as you say,, a mere 3-400 yards. Jaw. On. Floor.

Thanks for the comments. I'll clarify a few things.. It passed 700 yards east of us and the city building was spared by about 100 feet (lots of city vehicle damage though.) I've been in KS for 60 years. We just moved to Andover 9 months ago. It's a great town. Andover will be just fine and stronger than ever soon. Thankfully, nobody perished.

I lived in Kansas my whole life. In 2005, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska where the most we get in the summer weatherwise is a rainstorm. Thunderstorms are an extreme rarity here. I miss the storm season in Kansas, but I DO NOT miss the front row seat to the destruction of lives and property. So heart breaking. I know it comes with the territory in Kansas and there's nothing you can do about it, but it's still sad. One silver lining though is all the people who drop literally everything to help and to stay until every last person has what they need. Kansans are a cut above the rest when it comes to helping their neighbor, even if their neighbor is miles or even several towns away. ❤️🌻🌪

I’m the same as the lady. It is disturbing on many levels to see everything many have worked for, for years, to be shredded within 1-2 seconds. She is aware that she could be watching people die. Unlike many ANNOYING and VULGAR CHASERS that CHEER it on and could care less, as long as they get the MONEY shot. 😡
