The little girl in the audience was mesmerized and almost stole the show as I see it. I can't get past the glorious ball gowns, Cinderella must be green with envy. Her "Hee, Hee, Hee" absolutely slays me !

That breath control is one thing but doing it while performing and playing with the audience to make it more fun is exceptional

Carla Maffioletti is a Brazilian soprano. She was born in the second largest city in southern Brazil, Porto Alegre, a port town on Guaíba River. As a very young girl she began playing the violin before changing to classical guitar. Her talents were such that by her early teens she was performing at concerts throughout the country. While at university she began taking singing lessons and very quickly developed her outstanding voice. she came to the attention of André Rieu who hired her as a vocalist with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. In addition to global touring with the orchestra, Maffioletti has performed as a soloist on several of Rieu's albums and has appeared in his PBS television broadcasts in the United States. She has never sung an opera in any theatre in the world. She is a very good singer and actress.

I’m no fan of opera and never have been, but I respect it as a legitimate musical genre/art. That’s not meant to take away anything from the artists. There is no denying their talent and life-long dedication to their craft. It’s just my personal taste. However, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this performance! Absolutely beautiful with just the right amount of comic levity. It was just a really fun performance. And Carla’s voice is incredible! From her flawless clarity, pitch and tone, to her other-worldly range, all while “acting” as a wind-up doll, she made it all look so effortless. I will be saving this video to my favourites. Thank you for broadening my musical experience.

I own several of the dvd's from Andre Rieu, including the one that is performance is from. Yet I still come back to this as a 'quick fix'. Stunning performance and so full of humour and the audience reactions too. Including that little girl who we see several times. Many will argue that Opera and Operetta are boring. But in the hands of this talented conductor, his soloists and orchestra whoever thinks this needs a hearing-aid and a visit to the local opticians.
