1-4. Sonata Clàsica;
5-8. Sonata Romàntica;
9. Cancion;
10. Cancion y Paisage;
11-14. Sonata Mexicana.
Andrés Segovia Torres, 1st Marquis of Salobreña (21 February 1893 -- 2 June 1987), known as Andrés Segovia, was a virtuoso Spanish classical guitarist from Linares, Jaén, Andalucia, Spain. He is the father of modern classical guitar.
Segovia's contribution to the modern-romantic repertoire not only included commissions but also his own transcriptions of classical or baroque works. He is remembered for his expressive performances: his wide palette of tone, and his distinctive musical personality, phrasing and style.

Nobody painted a picture like Segovia. His music brimmed with character. That distinctive tone, phrasing filled with staccato and legato punctuation and endless soul, will live forever. I love this man.

Segovia always finds what magic there is that is not in the score. It is in HOW he expresses the deep structure of the music. Some speakers are boring and dull, others are passionate, speaking the same words. Same with music. Bad singers have no tone color, same with guitarists. Segovia could pull the most amazing tones out of the guitar.

Segovia interprets Ponce's music with such character and soul that all guitarists have to view him as the St Peter of the guitar

Habría que haberle preguntado a Ponce que opinaba de la interpretación de Segovia de estas obras que a él precisamente dedicó y escribió.Con la boca es fácil opinar y criticar el arte del padre de la guitarra...

Listen up. Segovia is your pops. His bawls are bigger than yours. He has been so influential to the guitar in the past 100 years that he's revolutionized it in ways we take it for granted. He will destroy your banal acoustic indie steel string ballads in one fell apoyando

He didn't always do every single thing correctly - he was flawed, just like every human being. In spite of that, his contribution to the guitar world was COLOSSAL.

Segovia has not been surpassed in the way he connected with higher levels of art, phrasing, soulful playing. A totally different spirit of feeling and thinking the world of art, literature, and life. Like Ponce said of Segovia when he first heard him perform in Mexico City, "Segovia's guitar performance makes one feel as if you were in the warmth of your home without cares for anything other than enjoying the moment.." something to that... Dios nos ayude de los malos imitadores....

+Joel Salazar You are right, that's why I love Segovia so much. The guitar is a very delicate instrument, it's sound changes a lot from one player to another, it's incredible. I'm happy that Segovia existed so we could appreciate the personality of the guitar thoroughly. He is the personality of the guitar.

The reason you didn´t hear this peaces is, that Mr. Segovia is probably elder than you ..... (joke). But indeed, these peaces, dedicated to him from Manuel Ponce, are very famous and popular. You should know them anyway....

All of us classical guitarists owe an incalculable debt to this incredible artist! He was, is, and ever will be an inspiration, mentor and role model to us all, despite the fact that he married a woman over a half century his junior! OH, for the joys of VIAGRA, not unlike Ponce de Leon's "fountain of youth", and the greatest thing since the discovery that dogs and cats could lick their own balls! Lol

His "guitar-oechestra" don't have comparation with nobody. Williams perhaps is the one that is closest of his sound and Bream was a great artist too but the Segovia's hands had a incredible strength that they configure his round sound. Yepes also deserves to be mentioned. Ponce's music is of the best of guitar's repertoire of 20th century definitely. Thanks for sharing it!

The final movement in Sonata Romantica has been shortened on the disc by omitting the minor chord progression at the finale . I wonder if the length of the piece was maybe too much for the recording technology at the time? A favourite of mine.

Though an important pioneer, the guitar has enough legs on it now to stand separately from Segovia, who was arguably a tyrant in the early days as the classical guitar gained popularity and its repertoire expanded. Objectively, his playing and sounds are average. In my opinion, his genius was not in his playing but the fact that he helped to forge the way for the instrument. There are videos attesting to his arrogance and his demeaning behavior. There is a lot of first-hand evidence of his shameful behavior in masterclasses. Pioneer, yes. Great musician, no.
@efstratiosanagnostopoulos6636
I have never heard a better tone from anyone personally. His sound is not uniform as most contemporary players. He presents a great variety of sound. It is just a different era, and a different taste.

Segovia ayudaba a Ponce a componer para la guitarra corrigiendo sus partituras. Ponce compuso por primera vez para la guitarra para Segovia, a ese grado comprendía su música y además aportaba su estilo, técnica, maestría y fabulosa expresión.
