I have studied 3 styles, 15 yrs Wing Chun, around the same in WTF TKD reaching 3rd dan and now at 67 I am studying Shotokan. Great Martial artists transcend styles, this guy is a great martial artist. A 9th dan once told me in a personal training session that martial arts are 80% the same, the 20% difference is in the techniques of the style the 80% that remains is all about relaxation and breathing. I did not understand then, I do now!
So much control. There is so much art that those who lack patience will never learn & will never teach. The speed & efficiency is to be envied. It’s beautiful to see that some people would rather teach & learn, rather than to risk injuries or make compromises based on points.
Of course I can also see that Bertel has good physical qualities. However, I cannot follow the enthusiasm of many people who think that they confuse this with actual effectiveness in a real fight. Would Bertel know how to do these things against a well trained fighter in Thaibox or MMA? Or can he only do them with pupils who (between fear and respect) do not really attack?
The constant struggle of people comparing consensual violence and non consensual violence. We don't need to show our skills in a ring. Thats why we (the traditionalists) don't go there. This stuff is supposed to cripple or kill. No one wants that unless it's necessary.
@@DavidYeomans-d6z Whether or not a violent attack is consensual or not does not touch the question of whether Bertell's techniques really work or whether it is a consensual spectacle. I am 6 Dan of Karate Shotokan (direct student of Shinan Hiroshi Shirai) but also MMA Instructor and I believe what I SEE. in Bertell's video we SEE first of all that all "attackers" are NOT attackers. In fact, the latter are violent, unpredictable, they attack with the utmost energy, they don't want to be hit but hit and hurt, etc. etc. And you tell me that I have to believe that you do not enter the ring because they are too dangerous? In addition to all this, I have not talked about "Ring" or a sporting match. These are HER words from her. I talked about combat and real verification.
@@justinstuart8382 I am 6 Dan in Shotokan karate, direct student of Sensei Hiroshi Shirai, and also MMA Instructor. My son is a professional MMA fighter. I have a bit of white hair, a lot of experience and I know perfectly what I'm saying and also why I'm saying it. If you are one of those karatekas who are not convinced by what I am saying, instead of making stupid comments, I invite you to fight with my son and, if you want, also to bet 10,000 Euros. You'd end up like Bertell.
I'm shorei ( goju ryu morio HIGAONNA school). Now i would like to learn to this very good shorin. It's différent. But he is so good, strong, and technique !
The problem with the punches there are Telegraphed! If you did it properly? You wouldn't show what hand or fist would be coming, until the strike! So the bock would be harder to detect!
If lot should think this is impressive then you should go to a basic stand up Goshin Jujitsu class .. It will blow your mind KABOOM !! He's just doing the basics ..
@goggles789 ... Don't mind me , I never even taken a class . Just booze myself into a stupor and write shit online about martial arts . Next week I will probably write a review on remote control helicopter's and then week after hang myself ..
@@dududu5189 ... Yes I also do not remember writing the above message but that's because I was probably smashed on gypsy juice ... Your my wife now ...Dave
As a Shotokan martial artist I always wondered how a Shotokan practioner would do against a jiu jit su and Muy Thai practioner are styles better or does it depend on the person. Bruce Lee said no style is more superior than the other.
A punch can kill , los golpes a la clavícula y a los dientes mandíbula corazón puede uno matar , en defensa personal, si o no El karate y taekwondo artes
It is easy to hit an opponent that tells you what he is going to do. In a real fight there are no one shot strikes. To hit an opponent that does not resist is silly. I respect his technique, power and form. Yet, we have to be real. Martial arts are about life and death.
Also stance needs to be tighter! Wide stance breaks the torque and sets up a gap! Which in turn, you will be hit first! The legs are pegged into the ground like a tree and the toes are the roots and the arms/hands are the limbs! 'Loose"
Would anyone know the reason behind the black belts with the strip of white tape as seen in the video ? Never before seen it at any seminar and just curious ?
Now that you mention it , I don´t recall having seen this on karateka´s belt before, but it refers to the individual´s Dan level , these stripes are used in the korean martial arts but usually only colored belts (under black belt level) use actual tape for intermediate ranks ..after 1st Dan, the dan strpes are sewn in..
Those guys are taking those hits for no reason. Horrible examples of not being in control. There is no need to punch these guys as hard as you can and even then, they took it so that means his punching power is minimal. I am pretty sure JKA does not condone this type of teaching.
Any countertechnique that requires oitsuki as an attack is worthless. Nobody in any situation does not attack with oitsuki. Oh right... in the dojo with a partner...
@@SchwarzkopfPICCOLO How am I crying? I am just pointing out the obvious flaws in the show. How abour stopping deluding yourself and actually think about it?
@@SchwarzkopfPICCOLO You are totally off, man. Mawashi geri is a worthy technique and can be applied in several situations. Where as oi-tsuki nowhere. Get my point? Bragging like your are, you are probably a teenager or just an ill-mannered practitioner, not worthy of calling a budo-ka. But I will gladly accept your challenge if you let me respond with my hizageri otoshiempi uchi counter.
Oi-zuki is an important training tool to teach important (physical) principles - rear-leg thrust, hip vibration, maintaining vertical axis and more. Applied oi-zuki uses slightly different timing, may look like in-transition gyaku-zuki, and is very effective. Hope this help clear up any confusion! Keep training! Oss!!
form is not meant to be applied literally, it's a mean to teach you general principles. Of course nobody will ever attack you with textbook ooitsuki. Of course you will never answer a punch with shutouke in kokutsu dachi with hikite at stomach level.
That’s a lie boxing has no chance against any kind of karate and I am experienced with both boxing and shotokan karate so just keep in mind that boxing is just for the ring and gym not for things like this
Claire Speight Boxing would have a chance with hand speed, ducking etc. But Karate has kicking, throwing and locking as in style and proficiency. One of our priests in South America a former boxer pulverised an intruder late at night.Boxing is efficient and competent in subduing an unsuspecting and untrained fighter quickly.
Karate can beat boxing but this video is just them practicing and training slowly also a boxer can throw as many punches as he wants but the karate guy can block fast attack and knock out in reality karate is fast when you are past red belt. Boxing is great but it’s not used for street if that makes sense it’s for the ring kind off but karate can be both but mainly for defence so it’s nice to see other people’s opinion but boxing wouldn’t stand karate maybe wing chun but not karate
It's not fake by any means. He's good, but in all the demonstrations that he does, and there are many others that do the same, their demonstration partner is always static or doing some pre arranged move so their response is not exactly reflexive. Designed to impress though.
I have not seen any good black belt: 1. tied their black belt ended up uneven.; 2. Wear hair like Andre Bertel. If he plans to talk a lot, he must look different.
Why? Who cares. Andre lives and trains in Japan and has done so for many years. Not easy for a foreigner, sudies Karate seriously.Very few can do that for any length of time. He is fully immersed in it and one of the best non Japanese exponents around.
Man erlernt keine Kampfkunst innerhalb weniger Wochen.
What is this? don't karate. yet how many cn. however none of them know Karate. otherwise they would not follow these stages. nothing passed off as karate.
