Excerpt from Andre Rieu's concert during the World Stadium Tour in Amsterdam Arena, the Netherlands, on 28 June 2008. Melissa Venema, 13 years old and very talented, plays with the Johann Strauss Orchestra. The stage is a reproduction of the Viennese Schönbrunn Palace.

Più di quaranta anni fa ascoltai questa suonata per il mio congedo dall'esercito. Non rimpiango quei tempi (benché ce ne sia il motivo, svevo quaranta anni in meno..). Ma questa suonata mi dà ancora la pelle d'oca. E qualche lacrima.

My dad was the same age as this girl when he won the British campion title for playing the french horn, he had been in hospital for a year just before he won it. He could play the trumpet and often did, he passed when i was 16 so these types of video always reminds me of him, I'm 70 now

WOW... She has such a natural Talent... At her age... She will be going places... That piece is so touching and powerful it brings tears to my eyes just to listen too.... My my. I always knew that “Taps” was played at military funerals but had never heard the full rendition. Even Mr. Butterfield would be moved by this flawless performance. I am awestruck. What a God given talent she has. Thank you so much.

I'm sorry, but actualy, this is NOT "Taps". This piece is based on taps, but it was produced by the Italian trumpeteer Nino Rossi in 1965 and is called "Il Silenzio". The real "Taps" is a little different : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S-Xrlf3taEo.html. But reagardless, both tunes tug on one's heartstrings. Amazing a kid of this age can play a piece like that. She has not yet developed full lung capacity and has to take in air more often than she will later on. Her performance was brilliant and full marks to Andre Rieu for giving her the opportunity to perform at a big event and us the opportunity to enjoy her playing.

She is a beautiful trumpeter... absulutely incredible and so brave at that age to get up in front of thousands and just play perfectly.... I'm amazed and so happy to see so many young people getting out and playing the trumpet as it seems to be dying out as an instrument and that last note is so well played. So mellow.

The first time I heard the long version of Taps was a night during a reenactment I attended at Fort Garland in Colorado. It was performed by an Air Force bugler. I have NEVER heard such a heartfelt rendition ever played before then. Hearing this young lady play the trumpet so beautifully brings back very good memories of that night. Thanks for posting this!
