The WDR BIG BAND performs together with Andrea Motis (vocals / trumpet) her composition "Brisa" in an arrangement by Michael P. Mossman. Solos are played by Andrea Motis on trumpet and Raphael Klemm on trombone. The WDR BIG BAND performs under the direction of Michael P. Mossman. Recorded at WDR Studio Bocklemünd (March 2021).
The young Spanish singer and trumpeter Andrea Motis is the most successful offspring so far from the talent factory of Joan Chamorro in Barcelona. She has released her music, which is strongly influenced by Latin American rhythms, in small formations on several CDs on well-known labels so far. At the invitation of the WDR BIG BAND, the American trumpeter, bandleader and arranger Michael P. Mossman has now written a program in large orchestral sound garb. In addition to a CD/LP, selected pieces were produced for video in the WDR television studios.

Wer den Werdegang von Andrea Motis - seit ihrer Kindheit - in der Jazz-prägenden Musikschule in Barcelona verfolgte, betrachtet diese Zusammenkunft mit mehr als Wohlwollen, dass ES sich lohnt, junge Leute, auch ohne typisches Studium, (Umweg über die Klassik) und so spielfreudig-ungekünstelt den eingefahrenen Hörer-Jazz zu bereichern .

I am following Joan Chamorro work with the kids for a quite long time. Andrea Motis is a rare talent, together with many others member of the Chamorros band, such as Rita Payés, Alba Armengou, the splendid bass player who I don't know the name, just to mention some of them. Quer dizer que pra subir a níveis ainda mais altos ela tem que se apresentar com bandas que não sejam latinas ? Puro preconceito. Ela não precisa disso não cidadão. E como alerta, a música cantada é em português do Brasil. Acorda para o século 21. A eugenia dos meados do século 20 deu no que deu né. E foi aí por essas bandas.

What a brilliant composition, arrangement, performance, and presentation! That soli, the solos, everything about it. What magic Joan Chamorro is making, and it is spreading all over the world, due to Andrea and the many other "talent factory" offspring who have such passion, talent, drive, and skills. WDR, you are inspiring so many students and practicing musicians all over the world. One of my personal wish list items is to experience a live performance and express my gratitude to each player.

In that world of musical values held dear world-wide by instrumentalists and writers..that world that has always quietly existed outside of fashions and trends in that world that mostly unspoken repository of musical values instilled by years of work study and practice...in that musicians world some performances tick all the box's. So that's when things get axiomatic in an old school sense: When nothing got left out not technique not harmonic and melodic fluency not great writing/arranging not knowledgeable improvisation and not the joy of music check. Yeah that's what we've got here. Good work indeed! Thank you.
