Andrew bird is an amazing artist. i enjoy that his lyrics often hold a deep and sometimes cryptic meaning. Chemical switches is one of my favorites, it's interesting to hear his process in creating that song as well as others.

“Over the years people say: music is math. And I’m like, no its not haha. It’s anything but, it’s the antidote to math. I’ve always been unmethodical, intuitive; soaking things up by osmosis. And I take that as far as I can possibly go. -- I find it a messy process, and I like that. - It’s the same reason I don’t like to read music or look at charts, even though we have charts scattered on the floor. Music is the audible math and the beauty of it! But if you get caught in the elegant math of it, you're missing the point! Music is also the burst of a supernova and the opening of a flower and a language. Andrew Bird captures that!

Bird's first three "bowl of fire" albums were amazing. Since then, he has created good music but not great music. His Quality Six stuff was also very good. He is also fun to watch in concert. But, I wish he would return to the Bowl of Fire mindset.
