The Handsome family used to play in small venues in Reading, UK where I live. I had a recurring dream that I would bump into them during the day before the gig whilst walking about town. In the dream they would insist on coming back to my small Victorian House to experience British tea in old-fashioned cups and saucers. In return they would let me join in with them playing their songs in my living room to rehearse for the evening's gig - this video is pretty much how I imagined it panning out! Sadly they are too famous now to play the small venues of Reading, but I still have the dreams and my Handsome Family song book!

I've always loved My Sister's Tiny Hands but after losing my own little sister this summer I haven't been able to listen to it unit trying today. Almost made it through with out losing it. Beautiful song.

@@ME-zi4op this is the first time I've watched them on video and that was my immediate observation as well, before Dear Old Greenland. It's like she's not even there. He talks right over her, interrupts, doesn't give her the opportunity to speak...ugh. Hoping it's only because a) he's just excited to be hanging with Andrew, b) they've been together for so long that it doesn't really mean anything, c) he's stoned, d) he's spacey... idk

I always wondered that if the line about the "indians lost in the rainforest" was about the native indians of Brazil, it is nice to see their story being remembered in a song made in a land far away from here, and in a such awesome song as weightless again

Its funny how they say the Elvis and Liza references are outdated but when I first heard this song, from the first verse I thought this was an old folk standard so when I heard the Elvis and Liza references I thought they were oddly modern, not old. So it works both ways interestingly

Greenland is really not THAT big as it looks like on the map. It seems like that because of the difference between euclidean and non euclidean geometry. So, when you strech the poles on flat surface everything there seems much bigger than stuff near the equator …

Oh GOD, I want to know about the song "Lizard" from the album 'Wilderness'. I would travel GREAT distance to interview Brett and find out more about the origins of some of his songs! 'Lizard' HAUNTS ME! It brings to mind the origin of stories of my grandmother raised in Arkansas by a Norwegian immigrant mother and confederate soldier father from Georgia! Unfortunately - years after her passing, nuances of her stories become more and more intriguing! (especially those of little boys setting catastrophic fires!)

Fascinating the imagery and stories their music stirs up though (such as yours), I think that’s the beauty of it - they don’t overly complicate a song - which honestly can be one of the harder things to do. When you can pull off “less”, and achieve more - or to even be able to play slowly (people seem to think playing really fast is the hard thing- in truth, it is often quite the opposite) and leave room for inflection, that’s part of the beauty of it for me. We’re given room to have our own stories in there. Some writers think we won’t get it if they don’t spell it out, but sometimes it’s better before they discredit the songs ability by layering ten times more
