ANDREW FEELS LIKE A NARCISSIST, NOT A PSYCOPATH . I atiendes 2 of his satsang in 1993 , I was 23 but still I found something was not ok in the teaching and his entourage. Now , 20 years after my awakening , I understand he went halfway but didn't arrive .

My personal experience with cults is similar: the inner circle is where the real cult shows it’s most malignant side. It becomes like a dysfunctional family with an abusive, narcissistic family member at its head, with codependent enablers around them, the “golden children” being cuddled and praised, often also abused but pampered as well, and the “black sheep” being terribly abused and put down. Such a toxic environment: where there is fear, there is no enlightenment. It’s hard for all who have been in there to acknowledge this has nothing to do with dharma and has no merit. People cling to the idea that it somehow was spiritual, but it isn’t. It’s an ego strengthening dumpster fire.

They always talk about ridding oneself of ego but the whole thing is the most ego driven thing possible. They always believe they're saving the world or the ultimate in human enlightenment. Scientology, NXIUM these guys, its always the same. Absolutely fascinating

His crazy laugh really exposed him, if his eyes hadnt already done so. He is a really dangerous narcissistic person! And the ability to sound smart and spiritual when actually saying nothing at all, just talking jiberish is SO horrible and fascinating! And so common in the new age scene and with all these gurus making it seem like they have discovered something more.

....he is all about the power trip and is clearly a master of control and manipulation. He's almost certainly sociopathic. I've witnessed him in action twice in the last week in his satsangs in Tiru, I can't believe he is teaching, worse than that, I can't believe there's a bunch of people hanging on his every word.

It's interesting how little emotion Andrew shows over losing someone he "loved very much" a "very beautiful person" after leaning into that person's willingness to amputate a finger. His self-effacement sounds sincere, on the one hand, but he is emotionally disconnected from such a "loss". I don't buy it.
@cindyhawkins6238

If you listen carefully to his words, he isn’t actually showing remorse. It’s all about him “not recognizing that he was pushing them too far” that indicates he’s still blaming others - it’s never him. I get the feeling that he is still trying to convince you that everything he ever said or did is still 100% without blemish, he just didn’t realize he was being too forceful. It’s all too much for me to accept that he truly sees any error on his part. Yeah, he’s just another snake.

....as it happens, I am currently in Tiruvannamalai, a place I have visited many times. To my surprise, knowing something of his past, I discovered Cohen's posters all over town advertising his satsangs. I went along a couple of times just to see and I am convinced that not only is he a master of manipulation and control but it's highly possible he is a sociopath at the very least.

I don’t believe for a second that he is actually contrite. Just the fact that you and he call himself a spiritual teacher after all the terrible things he did is intolerable. I went to one of his meditations in the 80s. He had some kind of ability to create a field of bliss which people mistook for enlightenment. What I saw was an narcissistic and cruel person.

This guy was absolutely a wolf in sheep's clothing. He sweet-talked his "students" before he cut them down and subjected them to abuse. The main teaching of any true teacher is all about Love. There was zero love shown by Andrew. It was all ego. So dangerous.

I was involved with 2 other authoritarian, so called "enlightened" spiritual teachers. I had never heard of Andrew Cohen, but am finding this an interesting and disturbing comparison of individuals who get in positions of power and abuse it. So strange that the goal is always to help us rise above our egos, yet they seem controlled by theirs. No more spiritual teachers for me!

I watch a lot of documentaries about cults, i find them fascinating. Something ive noticed is the followers take little if any responsibility for their behaviour when they're out. Its all just because the bad man made them. They talk about the leader loving public humiliation, but public humiliation doesnt work without everyone else. You have to have other people shaming the victim, telling on each other, competing for who is the most righteous. I think a lot of the time the followers are as responsible for the cult as the cult leader . Its just a crazy person shouting into the void without all the followers

Unfortunately, the psychology of behavioral conditioning and conforming is very strong. There are lots of psychological experiments that show that we, humans have a lot less self determinism when in groups and the urge to conform is very strong (for example, the findings of the Milgram compliance experiment and the Stamford prison experiment).
@Mrmatthew4338
@Mrmatthew4338 6 месяцев назад
@@alexmousley7213 I read some stuff about the Stamford prison experiment that made it seem like the guy in change heavily influenced the guards to bring about the results he was looking to find. Like it was kinda a flawed experiment in general as it didn't have a control group, I found this online that explains it better than I can: a treatment condition and a control condition, which can be a no-treatment control condition, a placebo control condition, or a waitlist control condition. I love that you took the time to read and reply to my comment though so please don't take my response as a diss
@alexmousley7213
@alexmousley7213 6 месяцев назад
I have heard that the experiment has recveived some criticism and probably it is deserved. In his book about his research the psychologist admits that he became a role in the experiment and it was his girlfriend who told him to stop it because the behaviour of the peoole playing the guards got too abusive.There are other cases where people in roles of great power become abusive- pretty much all cult leaders do. The Milgram compliance experiment (re done by Derren Brown with the same results) shows how many people will comply to abusive behaviour when told to do so by an authority figure.@@Mrmatthew4338

You're right; we are all responsible for our choices and staying with groups that turned out to be destructive. I'm trying to learn from my experience.
@alexmousley7213
@alexmousley7213 6 месяцев назад
The thing is, that cults, have a similar dynamic to abusive relationships- they seek out vulnerable people, love-bomb them when their self esteem is low and then erode any self esteem creating a dependence for the victim. The best way to protect yourself from this is 1. Build your self esteem and 2. Know how cults operate (it is very sytematic and they pretty much all follow the same path- from love-bombing to offering themselves as the solution (the ONLY solution) to building a phobia of leaving the group.@@MG210

This is why nobody needs a guru. They are a scam. Some people just need a little help becoming conscious of evolution. That is the real awakening. Gurus think it is about them.

Luckily the actions of his youth marks people like him over time, so the natural charisma he once had gets darkened and he has become less attractive to new seekers. Mostly some old followers stay loyal and these so-called guru’s become reclusive, so their PR team can create an image that can still attract. No one would have been interested in most of these narcissists when they are middle-aged and radiate the aroma of their abusive, gluttonous, angry and often addicted lifestyles. It’s like the end of Dorian Grey…

@26:58, she's never understood the flowers. In NPD, this is called "love bombing", it is to control and to manipulate. Or when humans do something bad and can't handle it in the moment, we over compensate through empathy or reward but it is much closer to what the other person is perceiving as a shared experience with you. With a narcissist, there is an alternate reality that happens simultaneously with the shared reality of humankind. In this alternate reality anything is possible and he experiences a complete understanding that he did nothing wrong. This represents itself as complete perceived sacrifice of the ego of the narcissist with love bombing but only in spite of your complete unawareness that you were completely in the wrong in his alternate reality. It's wild. It is to control reality and only to control reality, not to hurt others. To hurt others is the way in NPD. The same mechanisms that allow us to bury empathy for animals to eat are the same mechanisms the narc uses when confronted with his real self and needs to survive. This is why emotions blind us because this is about a battle for reality with the narcissist. You simply cannot predict what's happening in that alternate universe unless you see the same traits in yourself. We all have these traits but we also have a self. The narcissist has no self, so to survive the mind builds an immune system like false self where these traits are maximized and pathological. Godspeed (ideas inspired by Sam Vaknin, a scholar and psychologist with NPD)
