Spectacular drama and realism in Rubens, truly mind-boggling! He never seems to have gotten his due compared to discussions on such Renaissance and Baroque masters as Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Raphael, da Vinci, Velasquez, El Greco, Goya, etc. Until fairly recently, Rubens largely was a blank entity to me, there was a kind of unreality about him, with no one painting of his ever standing out in my mind. This video helped me see that he truly existed as a "real" human being. The fact that his paintings are so over-powering, so vibrant, so chaotically animated in nature(at first glance), could be the reason Rubens has seemed so inaccessible and unknowable to me for so long. This video helped alot, the genius of the painter is both obvious and awesome. I appreciated Mr. Graham-Dixon's enthusiasm and clarity in helping to make this artist come alive as never before. Thank you!

In what ways did Rubens self-fashion himself? In other words, how did he use his art, education, wealth, and collecting practices to construct his desired identity?

It's funny how Dutch and Belgian art have to be considered "Scandinavian" in the realm of art history or museum studies, just because Iceland and Finland don't really produce anything artistically.

Is it me or English have a tendency to replace quality in contents with a posh pronunciation and diction?

Fact: The paintings were stolen by the Germans during World War 1 and returned after the Armistice in 1918.
