"These images were supposed to yoke together disparate ideas..." Using the word 'yoke' for describing metaphysical poetry is problematic. Despite the fact, that it was Johnson who first used the word, 'metaphysical', I am not sure if one can simply pick up a word from his astringent critique that carries the negative connotation of "heterogenous ideas...yoked by violence together". One can't invoke Johnson for introducing metaphysical poetry to one's students, for he had no patience for this school of poetry. The point I am trying to make is that you cannot jump to a negative critique of a school of poetry, art movement, etc. before discussing the 'thing' per se, especially in a short, introductory video like this one.
