Gosh Darn Andrew! Can’t wait to go on rides with this dude again. Had to watch the vid after seeing the pics of the bike. Y’all are doing well with these videos!
The spirit of John Candy has possessed Matt Laidlaw. Polka! I see how it is. To work for Laidlaw H-D you have'ta be passionate about the bikes. Secret to a happy life.
I agree 100% when engine kit are being discussed. Not so much when it is a full build. When it's been sent to a shop to get bored over and gets cams and high compression pistons and ring, complete head work and the whole nine. Fallow your builder advise. Lots of real hot engine built for big power get a hard brake in. They cycle it to operating temp and let it cool then run it with a light load. Then they just give it hell. Some ring need to imprint on the cylinders. Many race team brake engine in like this. It is only for builds that call for it, not the majority. Still important info none the less.
For gauges, use your phone. Download a app called “speedometer” from the App Store. Place your phone on your bars and that’s the end of that. You’ll never have to look down again
Matt with that music I expected you guys in leather Harley lederhosen LOL . Andrew this project bike WOW the paint you guys do out there is so KOOL, yeah do the suspension and put some gearing into that bike to give you at least a 3.23 final drive. Get the calculator out, figure out the gearing and then see how fast you come out of the corners…Matt excellent explanation on the breaking in of a new bike or a new engine build……seating the rings is the key to engine longevity……….Matt I hear you on the forum guys and they wonder why their burning a qt of oil every 600 miles
Makes perfect sense Matt, I was curious about the technical aspects of the break in on a new engine, I rebuild CNC machinery and the bearing mfgs recommend the same type of varied run speeds and cool down cycles.
The old saying don't get high on your own supply, just because you work at a restaurant doesn't mean you have to go broke eating everything in the restaurant. Lol
I Love your paint job very class. Lucky Daves seat is also the best unknown secret to saddleman step up, it much better quality and comfort. Just put one on my Lowrider. Love it made the ride so much better, best thing I have done to my MC and I have done a lot.
The 🎶 get the lederhosen on !!! Love the bike Andrew..nice to see a loud bike in CA...just get the suspension done...raise that final drive to 3.23 or more !! you sound like you like to ride where your getting max Tq 👍 Matt excellent info on breaking in a build... seating the rings is so important and crucial to longevity of your engine build
How much should I expect to save up to get a paint job in this style? I see alot of club styles like this online. Id love to be one of the only guys around here with one.
Joseph Andreuccetti For sure, a modded vrod can really rip. I’d like to do a hammer 1275 kit for a Sportster and make around 120 hp. I think it would be a killer. They have a video of one on this channel in a roadster. So badass.
Replaced the 117 cylinders twice due to an oil leak on my low rider S, till finally the dealer got me a brand new 110 again and I stuck with that... The 110 is a bored out 103 and couldn't handle the 117 upgrade... That H-D cutting corners...
Hey Matt, I did learn a couple things from this, but I do have a question. This being the proper procedure, is the engine configuration the reason for a different break-in than other bikes? I don't know what Harley does at the factory, but many of the Japanese bikes are put on a dyno before leaving factory and do wide open throttle minutes into its first start. I think we can agree those sportbikes are pretty powerful. Also, I love this FXDLS! Mine has yet to get custom paint. It's a daily and weather blows in Indiana.
Its going to be a bit, we want the dyno to be in that video and its being updated/upgraded currently. And then its going to take a while to edit it all together, and there are a few videos we need to release before then as well. Hopefully soon though!
Nice looking bike sounds good too. I've got a 2018 sgs and looking for a nicer 2up seat couldn't make out where you got yours could you help me out? Thx.
My friend, I get in trouble if I speculate. Subscribe and hit the bell icon to be notified when I publish new content. I will be live streaming at the show like last year. When I know you will know whats new for 2019
SICK! Great info on the break-in as I have read lots lately about "break it in like you're gonna ride it" quite different info from the Corporation that will have to do the warranty work! And the Polka...LOL!!!! Someone should let Chevron know how much better getting gas would be with Polka music!!!!! I use my gas cap to catch the drips when putting nozzle back after fueling...Almost like it was made for it!
You need to put a load on those rings in a new engine which means doing a lot of short 75% full throttle runs but only do 75% of the redline, stop to let engine cool and repeat and don’t to do any sustained speeds for any length of time, as don’t go on the freeway for any longer than 10 miles, otherwise the cylinders won’t be scored properly and the rings won’t be seated in correctly causing oil blow by. Do this as much as possible until 1000 or 1500 miles.
no good when you cannot see the lil old lady in front of you..... insta crash . where your rider boots at? lol , Matt ... introduce that guy to a pair of highway safe H-D rider boots plz. seeing him riding like that ( may as well say he gone barefooted ) is sad. very good introduction of polka music, it works really well. well done on the break-in process of the new engine kit. awsome vodeo !!
Nice ride, really like the paint scheme. I would like to make the front wind screen into The Predator (from the Schwarzeneggar movie) using the two front bolts as eyes. Shameless plug for Longhaulpaul doing 1million miles to raise awareness for MS on his Teneres. Check his seat maker friend Bill Mayer Saddles near Ventura if ya get a chance. Really appreciate the note on a soft break-in. Seat the rings, valves etc, great info, thanks.
Hey Matt, I recently bought this exact bike from the guy that bought it from Andrew. Am trying to locate the painter so I can see if he will paint a FXRT fairing for me. Is there any way you could msg me his info or shoot him mine?
This is a really cool bike, but i for the life of me cannot stand fairings at all. The 2018's Fat Boy nacelle is about the only "fairing" like design ive ever liked. The paint is killer though, and 117ci Twincam? I didn't know that you could do that. That's insane.
Hi,great video:-) I have one question,I just got this kit installed on my Fxdls..the engine has 17492km on it from before the kit was installed..I have done the 50miles (80km) below 3500rpm brake in but the dealership that installed it says that I only have to do 186miles (300km) for the next brak in stage below 4000rpm not 500miles (1600km)because that’s for a brand new engine with the kit..is this true..?
I know I’m 2 years too late, but I love the paint! I’ve been trying to track down who it is. Matt or Andrew, if you’re reading this, can you throw me a link or a handle for his socials or website or something?
