amazing channel congratz! you're a great teacher.

you could have been a bit more generous level matching. i can clearly hear 2db difference which makes it harder to hear the tonal difference
@GreenLightSound
@GreenLightSound 2 года назад
You're right, the examples aren't matched that well. But hopefully you can still hear the tonal changes and it's not just a case of louder is better.

This trick is just a simple EQ process

Super intricate trick up your sleeves Joe.. Do you think this should be accompanied with a limiter/clipper ? Coz Toms are those elements you can never have enough ?
@GreenLightSound
@GreenLightSound 2 года назад
Absolutely, especially if the tom hits are really "spikey" in terms of transients. Then you can really turn them up without clipping the DAW channel.

Nice one! I tried applying this separately: 100hz setting for rack tom and 60hz setting for floor tom, and it works wonders!!!

Nice!

I can second this! Awesome move on the toms for sure 🤘

Little bit of level matching, and the eq made it darker and heavier... before that it was more snappy and bright. Can't say which one's better tho without context...but what's special about the pultec?
@realraven2000
@realraven2000 2 года назад
I think normally it's using boost plus attenuation to generate a pleasant curve. wiuld be interesting to see in plugin doctor to see if you could match it with a fabfilter Q3

What's special about the Pultec? Use one and you will understand. I recommend Access Analog.
@hawaiirealmedia5610
@hawaiirealmedia5610 2 года назад
You should mention that the amount of boost is dependent on the music you are mixing. One can not "copy" these settings? One has to do this when listening to the whole track. Just sayin'

are we really comparing eq-ed signals that are 4 db louder to un eq-ed in 2022? especially when there´s a gain knob on both plug ins. 🤦‍♂️ i think a little added putec attenuation would have probably sounded good on those toms too.
@lebcaleb8692
@lebcaleb8692 2 года назад
When adding those frequencies, what about other elements occuping those parts of the spectrum?
@GreenLightSound
@GreenLightSound 2 года назад
The tom hits are often so infrequent that they won't interfere.
@sonidojamon
@sonidojamon 2 года назад
Pultec style equalizers have a very distinct character/curve, and a different add+subtract "algorythm" that creates very subtle but noticeable changes. Lots of character and bass depth, with no dramatic eq/fq changes.

Also if it sounds good who really cares?

@@jonathankessler9853 If it sounds good yep. If you got more problems of clarity or definition though...

@@lebcaleb8692 It's oke, their toms. Just let them dominate when they're there.
@verdi260

I would say for the rack tom there is no low frequencies needed too much.
@GreenLightSound
@GreenLightSound 2 года назад
Probably not, but it's faster to just work on them together.

Slapping an EQ and boosting the low end isn't really a "trick" no matter how fancy your EQ is...
@cianbrady1557
@cianbrady1557 2 года назад
I wouldn’t really say it’s a trick more just a process?
@GreenLightSound

That's fair.
