The deference the judges give Trump due to his being a former president of the U.S. is understandable. However excessive deference by the courts and media detracts from the fact that he is a criminal defendant now and not president. Based on the actual charges, the state has a solid case. Procedurally, Trump may yet get away with it, if not at the District Court level, then at the appellate level. I didn't go to law school. I'm gonna need a really basic, elementary explanation of why the defendant is being threatened with incarceration for at least the third time. I don't understand the judge's hesitation to mete out equal justice. I need to believe there are legitimate reasons for making special allowances for the defendant but it has gone on so long, in multiple courtrooms....my trust is waning and I need some explicit explanation.

1. They are not sure how to handle the details of incarcerating, and securing a former president and his security detail. 2. They fear giving Trump a "martyr" moment. Something that he can use to campaign on. 3. They worry appellate courts might disagree and rule a mistrial. 4. They fear violent protests and even retribution from MAGA psychos.
