Tragic to think that this Gohan especially had only 4.5 years of comfort & peace before his world literally came crashing down from Raditz to the Androids.
That screaming was Vageta screaming so loud it broke through space time and traveled from Namek to earth after 20 years. It was from him screaming after finding out Gohan took the dragon ball he hid in the lake. As Nappa said his rage broke.
Yeah, the kanji on Gohan's back is the "han" part of his name. Goku and the other turtle hermit students used to wear the kanji for "turtle" on their gi; Goku kept the turtle kanji up until after his training with King Kai, at which point he got King Kai's "World King" kanji on the back, but kept the turtle kanji on the front. The uniform he changed into for Namek had the kanji for "Go" from his name, symbolizing that he was his own master. After that, his gi stops having kanji at all.
Which implies Gohan's gi isn't a hand me down from Goku after all, but one he had custom made. He also couldn't have got Piccolo to create one via magic, because...he's been dead for a decade. I suppose he could have had the symbol sown onto one of Goku's old gis, but idk who actually made the emblem for him. Chi-chi? Maybe she sows stuff, its possible, although I don't think she would approve of any fighting nonsense, but who knows, maybe she mellowed out after Goku and most of their friends being brutally murdered and living in a post apocalyptic wasteland for a decade, perhaps she did come around to the need for someone strong like Gohan to kill the "cyborgs" to prevent the end of the world. Still weird tho. On a related note, it would have been cool if Gohan just used Piccolo's "Demon" symbol he used to wear when Piccolo originally kidnapped/trained him when he was a todler, to pay his respects to his late mentor.
You're actually watching this a little earlier than I expected, but that's totally fine. I think the "intended watch order" puts this between episodes 46 and 47. I always love seeing new people react to TFS after spending so much of my life eagerly awaiting the official upload from TFS, and your reactions are some of the most transformative I've seen to date, so keep on rockin' my guy! Monty was actually someone at Rooster Teeth. He came up with the initial concept of RWBY, and apparently had plans for it to go in a very different direction than it ultimately did. Unfortunately, he passed away around the time this DBZA special was close to release. Apparently he had a food allergy he never knew about, and when he tried something for the first time the reaction was so severe they had to get him hospitalized, and even then he still succumbed to complications from the situation. Many, many people still dearly miss him. EDIT: Correct! That was Vegeta's scream from Namek when, to quote the ghost of all Saiyans, "they tooooooook the dragonball." Gotta love their attention to continuity!
@@Mattables No worries! I actually don't remember when you said you were going off a playlist/watch list, so that's probably on me. I'm glad you enjoyed the special regardless, and I look forward to how you'll react to...a few scenes in particular, but also the show as a whole.
Mattables ...Hey, don't listen to them. There's no official order, which is why I made mine. If they disagree, they should make their own. Go with God and Be Safe from Evil. 😎 👍
Gohan hearing piccolo is his mind is Gohan going insane. A key give a way is piccolo pronounced his attack "Makankosappo" fluidly, which is something he is not able to do.
Monty Oum was a legendary fight choreographer and cg animator who died tragically in 2015. He mostly worked with Rooster Teeth after making some independent stuff. Check out the Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers for RWBY if you get the chance. The Red and White trailers in particular are purely his work except for the music
Other stuff that was done is "Haloid" and the "Dead Fantasy" series if your interested. Just keep in mind that these are decade old so the models and scenes didn't age too well, but the choreography and concepts are really top notch.
He also did a lot of the legendary fight scenes in Red Vs Blue. Red Team Vs Tex is still one of my favorites. I think he was the creator of RWBY which explains a lot.
24:36 this is the timeline where Yamcha... didn't take Trunks existing very well... The Dragon Ball mmo actually was set far enough in the future that Saiyans had pretty thoroughly mixed with humans, even starting with just Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Bulla
so much so that even thou you cant pick to play as a full blooded Saiyan any human player that collects all the dragon balls can wish to unlock their latent power which allows them to turn Super Saiyan
As a DW fan I would hope you can recognize the song playing as Trunks turns into a super saiyan. (27:20 ish) That particular DW episode always makes me teary😢 at the end.
The Kanji on Future Gohan's Gi translates to 'Meal', or 'Rice' its a pun on his name. I just googled that now and also realized for the first time just how many characters in the series have Kanji somewhere in their design, its fun to keep track of how the kanji change as the story progresses. For example when Goku got to Namek He changed into a Gi with the kanji for his own name
"Bulma Is Thirsty" - Thumbnail I mean, Bulma's original intent on finding the Dragon Balls was because she wanted a boyfriend. Bulma hooked up with Yamcha after the first arc. This is when DBZ Abridged went from good, to great. I get choked up every time I see dead Gohan in the puddle. When the music starts up, I'm done.
Idk if it’s been brought up, but Dragonball started in 1989 and wrapped up in ‘96. GT ended in ‘97. This particular special came out in February ‘93. Meaning it was made in ‘92. Over 30 years ago. A lot of folks over here in the west forget that it took a decade for DBZ to kick off here. A lot of the music and sound effects TFS used in relation to Trunks is from Doctor Who. The track during Freeza’s Death Ball attack against him was the Dalek theme from New Who. The track during Trunks’ first tansformation is from Doomsday. You really should watch the credits as it’s an original rearrangement of the DW theme crossed with Cha la head Cha la.
17 becoming a park ranger is canon in Dragon Balls Super, btw. Folks thought DBS took that idea from DBZA, but it had actually been mentioned originally by Toriyama at some point when asked about what happens to 17 after the Cell Saga. Also, once you're done with DBZA, you should check out Helsing Ultimate Abridged. It's only 10 episodes, but it's very good. The first episode is the only one that feels a little weak, but the quality picks up almost immediately. 17's VA voices a fan favorite character in HUA, which is what made me think to recommend it.
Dude during your free time, PLEASE I highly recommend checking out their commentary tracks on their second channel! Definitely worth the listen and gives behind the scene secrets and humor! 👍👍
Master Roshi is alive because he drunk an elixir and now he's young Forever, but he drunk it when he was already all so is old Forever and i'm not joking it actually worked in that way
Goku has three symbols on his gi throughout dbz one meaning turtle, one being king Kai’s symbol, and one being his personal symbol meaning go’ The one on gohans back is similar meaning ‘Han
Answering all of Mattables' questions week 20: 1. I like the series. 2. No he was not to my knowledge. 3. This is future Trunks' timeline. 4. Gohan is grown up now. 5. Krillen is the same age as Goku. 6. They're the same as Goku's I'm pretty sure since the story is that Goku handed down the gi after he died. 7. They are for sure stronger than Frieza at least how strong Frieza gets in DBZ. Remember Trunks killed Frieza but went back in time because he wasn't strong enough to kill the cyborgs. If A > B and B > C then A must be > C. 8. He's imagining Piccolo in his mind. He actually can't absorb him because he's not a Namekian. Plus they confirmed multiple times piccolo died. 9. If you want the explanations for where everyone is rewatch the meeting between Trunks and Goku. 10. Anyone could kill them if they're strong enough. 11. I don't like riding dicks I'm afraid.
25:24 alright, so: a healthy pregnancy lasts about 9 months (let's assume exactly 9) a woman's body needs 18-24 months to fully recover (let's assume 18 for this) this means that, assuming no stillborn, no twins (or similar), and no shooting blanks, the average time between births is 27 months or 2,5 years 20 kids would take 45 years, and assuming you started at age 18, that would still be far from the goal you'd need 2 partners minimum to have 20 kids, and even then that would be 22 and a half years between them this napkin math was brought to you by a stranger on the internet, requested by nobody
1. Monty Oum was an animator who worked for Rooster Teeth, he was the creator of RWBY and Team Four Star got him to voice Adult Gohan but before he was able to record his voice, he tragically passed away 2. The stuff after Capaldi according to some Whovians was garbage and it’s just gotten worse
17:38 Not only are the androids stronger than Freeza, they are so MUCH stronger that they make Freeza look like a complete joke. 34:30 Master Roshi drank a magic potion that keeps him from aging. Unfortunately, he was already an old man when he found it, but at this point he's over 300 years old. He's not immortal, as he can be killed - he just won't die of natural causes.
30:48 that's what Trunks believed because of the storys he was told, but it isn't true, Goku would not have been strong enough either, but he would have manage to find a way to become strong enough
13:00 yep, that's the kanji for rice (Gohan in japanese). Goku's gi has different kanji throughout the series. Early on, it says kame (turtle), then kaio (King Kai's symbol), then starting at Namek it just says Goku.
Yamcha's a little... suspended.. at the moment. Also, Master Roshi is pretty much immortal. While he can die, he doesn't die from age. I think he's supposed to be over 300 years old.
Like, half of the times you pause the video, you pause in the middle of a joke, and end up not understanding it when you resume play. I find it equally frustrating and hilarious.
You're right. Goku wears several different gi, most usually with the kanji Kame 亀, which means turtle and comes from Roshi but Future Gohan's gi has the kanji Han 飯, which meals meal and is the second kanji in his name 悟飯
Yoooo I fell off Doctor Who around Capaldi's start and haven't watched any of the newer stuff since too! Big Tennant fan myself and I got a deep appreciation for the short time we had with Eccleston.
Why didn't the gather the dragonballs during the runup to the androids and wish for Goku to not have a problem with Cholesterol (or in the real series - the heart virus).
It seems that at certain points when you pause you seem to miss jokes or information while they’re being told. Not a huge problem but can become a issue in the long run
So DBZ has a reputation of powercreeped villains and introducing new abilities, and especially transformations, to combat the bad guys which leads to further powercreep. So every subsequent villain is more powerful than the last because one of the heroes got a power boost to become more powerful than the villain they were facing, so the new villain needs to be even more powerful. Here's just what I can remember off the top of my head, starting from where this trend arguably, maybe, originated though maybe I'm forgetting something. Goku gets Kaio-ken to get as strong as/stronger than Vegeta. Vegeta gets a zenkai boost and beats up Freeza's men up until Zarbon. Vegeta gets ANOTHER zenkai boost and beats Zarbon. Vegeta then loses to Recoome. Goku did space training and beats up most of the Ginyu Force and then, to put it briefly, loses to Ginyu. Vegeta gets another smaller boost I think via getting beaten pretty badly during the Ginyu Bois but loses to Freeza's 2nd form. Piccolo gets the ability to fuse with Namekians and somehow stands up to 2nd form Freeza, draws with 3rd form basically, then loses to final form(just called 4th form now I guess since Super exists). Vegeta gets a zenkai boost after telling Krillin to nearly kill him, but loses to Freeza. Goku gets a zenkai boost and its a topsy tuvy up and down battle with Freeza until Goku gets a 2nd form (yay Super Saiyan!) and eventually beats Full Power Final 4th Form But Not Actually Final As He's Not Even Golden Yet Freeza. If the Androids weren't stronger than Freeza, then anyone that's Blonde could kill them. And in the main timeline, Trunks was able to handily kill Mecha Freeza and King Cold so the Androids MUST be stronger than them. And there are still SO many more power ups, transformations and other techniques/plot devices later on to make the heroes get as strong as the plot needs for the heroes to beat the bad guy. OH also that Vegeta scream you heard is a call back to the Namek Saga when Gohan stole one of Vegeta's dragonballs and he screamed so hard that it projected into the future and Trunks heard him.
15:25 you aren't thinking it over before ranting about it. He is clearly using the move to build up momentum for a kick, you should start thinking more clearly.
He's also been gifted immortality by his pet phoenix, before it tragically passed away 😢 (choked I think) He's also immortal because of a special flower he ate. Man can really only die by combat at this point
Yes, Frieza, who Trunks killed in one shot, is clearly going to be more powerful than the Androids, that Trunks could not beat in the future and came to warn them about... Wait, What?!?! lol. Another blonde moment? ^_^;; Of course the Androids are stronger, they're the next big enemy... Well kinda anyway... But yeah... I guess I kinda get why they might seem lesser, given that Frieza was a crazy alien that had a massive space empire and the Androids seem less impressive in concept when compared to him... Still, if they didn't at least compare to Frieza, they wouldn't last long as enemies. Anywho, Mounty Oum was a fairly popular animator who worked for RoosterTeeth... He is probably best known for being the creator of RWBY. If you haven't checked out RWBY already, it might be a cool show to react to, given that RoosterTeeth are currently cool with full, unedited reactions (although sometimes you may need to contact them to remove blocks and they may claim the ad revenue still if you don't hide image or sound a reasonable amount... Still, if you're cool with contesting the blocks sometimes and don't care too much about money, you can react without the need to really pause or edit, except where you might want to). I recommend checking out the RWBY Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers first (they are more like character introduction shorts and do not include any footage from the actual show, so they're well worth watching... They're also just really cool, despite the low initial budget)... The show has such a good soundtrack too... The openings are pretty cool, but I would advise that you do not react to them, especially past the third one, because if you watch them early there are potentially major spoilers.
The androids are many times stronger than Friezza, they could easly kill him whit their pinky, remember that Trunks killed Frieza in seconds but could do nothing against this androids. There is no one else left to fight in that timeline, as they showed at the begining of the episode everyone already tried and died, you should pay atention to what you are waching, it theds to make it more enjoyable.
