That's correct. You can plug in your phone or RDC into the USB port on the Dual PTT device. Then it tethers the phone via RNDIS and provides IP connectivity between your phone and the rest of the network.

So without the MPU5 you wouldn’t be able to hear audio from your EUD (end user device) so ATAK notifications is one example that you may miss without being able to have the applications audio in your headset. Another one is the ability to make signal or whatsapp phone calls from an MPU5 to a device like a phone with one of those apps on it. You can have hands free audio conversations through your headset and if any voice traffic from a net/talk group comes through the android environment audio would lower while the possibly more pertinent traffic on a talk group comes through clear and understandable.
