5 months of trying to figure out why my maps weren't working in my car and all I could do was charge the phone and make calls. Your video helped me figure out I had the wrong USB cord, now all is fixed FINALLY!!! Thank you!!
Thanks so much for making this video. When my car would not recognize my phone I did a lot of reading and watched many videos. Not one mentioned updating android auto. I was getting ready to take my car to the dealer. After updating the android auto app on my phone the entertainment system worked immediately on my car. Thanks again for taking the time to place this video on RU-vid so everyone could access your knowledge.
I did not have issues I look up this video for my son who was having issues I sent it to him what I want to comment about is that I like videos like yours where you get right to the point and not messing around and you give all the facts that people want to know you're not showing me your dog or your cat or your kids people look up videos for knowledge they're not looking for penpals I'm an old guy 62 years old we don't need all that other nonsense that's what Instagrams are for keep up the awesome job brother 👏 👍
@@MichaelBMcGeeDP naw it's the software. I have every component new and in pristine quality and it just stopped working with the last update. Through MULTIPLE resets, reinstalls, factory reset and switching phone and cable.
Great video This is what worked for me (Honor Magic 5 Pro) in a car I had previously connected to but stopped. On phone went to > Settings > More Connections > Android Auto > Previously connected cars then I highlighted the car which was not connecting and hit > Forget plugged phone back in car etc and immediately connected as a new connection.
My cord isnt working it shows me the map then it just freezes and connected another phone and it didnt even want to detect it so i dunno what cord i need my new truck is 18 so 2021 can do it without cord but not the 2018 and i wanna use it :c i fkng hate this tech sht!!! Its 3am ima try again in the morning maybe looking for another cable. 😔😔😒😒😒
@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 I think pretty much any decent quality cord will work. I got one from big lots that works. I think the brand is home or homes or something like that. It was only like 10 bucks so I don't know why it works when the last one didn't.
This worked! For some reason my phone became disabled in the Android Auto settings. My wife's phone would connect and mine wouldn't but it makes sense now (her phone said enabled and mine said disabled). All good now though. Thank you!!!
Finally got Android Auto to work on my 2019 Accord. I had to go into settings in the car > Connections > Smartphone Connection > Android Auto. The phone was detected by the car but listed as "No Device Name" and was Disabled. Once I hit enabled I was able to connect the phone to the car and now it says S22 Ultra. Good luck folks 💪🏿
It was your comment that helped me turn back on the auto app for my 2016 Civic. It's been out since like March 2021.. Got my car in July 2020 and all of a sudden the app started to act funny after my phone software update. Smh. Thank you for the help. Quick & easy!
@nikb9871 @cars unlocked How did you uninstall fom your vehicle? I had it working fine and I had to play with it and now I have nothing no music or anything?
Definitely saved me a headache cause this car was about to go straight to the dealership caused my Android Auto wouldn't connect but my Apple Car play would.
Omg I had having to use my BT option on my Nissan Rogue 2020 and it aggravated my soul that I thought it was my cord so I thought to come to "ole faithful" RU-vid and I watched your video and I hadn't thought to Uninstall and install again it worked ..thanks so much
My android auto has not worked for two years, it worked for the first few months I had the car and then stopped.. I finally decided to give it a serious look today and after three calls to customer service and a few videos, I was about to give up and found your video. The cord.... I went into the house and got the original cord and WHALAAAAA, The android button is NO LONGER GREYED OUT on my screen.. Thank you for helping! (I had already reset my phone and android app and reconnected, the only thing that made a difference was the cord)
Thank you very much. My device was no longer recognized because I had multiple devices and the car recognized 1 device but ai was plugging another in to get mapping directions. The system asked me two questions. One is to turn off and the other one was something else (I forgot) I just picked anyone which in this case was TURN OFF. I didn't realized I was disabling my phone by doing that. You had mentioned here to go I to the android auto to go to "setting, smartphone and then Android Auto I saw where all my devices said enable except the one in question. Fixed the problem instantly. Thank you very much.
Nothing works for me. It worked great in my car for a year and a half, then it suddenly stopped working. Made sure to use the cable that came with the phone; then ordered a high quality, high speed cable just to be sure...nothing. Just like that it stopped working from one day to the next and it will never connect now.
Android Auto was working then all of a sudden it quit working. I have Samsung cords, even got it to work temporarily with a cheap cable. Nothing works. Want to avoid a trip to car service if its not necessary. Will go through your great steps.
Tech companies constantly updating their software causes freaking nightmares for their customers. Screw Google, Apple, and every other tech company, their products suck and yet we can't seem to live without them...
Yup. Always trying to add new shiny things, high numbers of employees getting in and out trying to put their stamp on the product. A bit slower development would be great.
Wow... this may be my issue. Started this week. It connects to the car only for streaming apps to play music. It will not pick up incoming or outgoing phone calls. I'll try this. I hope it works. Thanks for sharing.
What I found helpful was that in your cars system select settings then there should be option for smartphone, select that and then make sure your phone is enabled for Android auto in that setting. This helped me, I hope it helps you as well. I had the similar problem as you did.
Same here, just stopped working yesterday for no apparent reason but today today the touch screen stopped working. The other gmc we have still connects to the phone, just the 2019 stopped connecting
@@signheart7520 It does swm very sensitive to updates, ie you have to update the handset asap and this seems to minimise the problems. I'm learning the hard way as it happened again recently because I had ignored an update.
I tried all of the things mentioned in this video, i also watched 20 other videos and it didn't work, for me best advise was to try connect phone to PC and see if you can try transfer data to PC, and it didn't work either, so i cleaned USB port on my phone, and walaaa, it's working now
Wow! Thanks, think you just solved my issue. Plugged into PC and reinstated ability to data transfer/android auto. Now it works. Think it may have cutoff when I got water in my charge port and plugged in, got a warning, and perhaps defaults changed as a safety to the connections/phone.
Can you please advise how you enable android auto in your car screen as for me both Android auto and apple car play is in grey colour and when I touch screen it doesn't take any command, please not I am driving Sorrento 2018 American spec in use region, Your reply will be great help Regards
IDK what my issue is - was working fine until android installed their latest security update now I can't get AAuto to see that my pphone is plugged in; other connections work just not for AAuto. Tried multiple cords just can't try another phone yet... grr...
@@cedbar738 so my android auto did not update and quit working. So I uninstalled from my phone, and then it gave me the option to update, then install. Fixed my problem
I just rebooted the media on my 2021 honda crv and it worked after i clicked always enable for android auto. Worked until yesterday never had a problem since buying the car... dont know why it happened all of a sudden but rebooting the media system on the car worked
was waiting until Monday to take my car to KIA-thought hay maybe there is something on you tube, after all it tought me how to fold a fitted sheet--15 minutes after doing a reset works like a charm!😅
I have a 2019 ram , I was frustrated all day because Android auto wouldn't work . I simply wiped the USB ports after buying a new USB connector that I didn't need . It's working fine now
Hi, thanks for the video. You probably do this a lot (set up Android Auto) but you were talking so quickly I had to keep going back and replaying the instructions. Also when you are explaining a step, show the parts of that step and what will happen on the phone and in the car. This might seem tedious for you but you are making an instructional video so you need to instruct us.
A very important part is the USB cord has to be high quality for data transfer. Android Auto requires high data rates to work. The cord should be maximum 3 feet. The cable must be connected directly to the USB port on the car and not using any type of hub. The bargain type low cost cords are not of high enough quality to reliably work. If your cord should be rated at USB-3, and better be rated at USB-3.1. If your car has a USB-C port this should also work very well. I found before connecting Android Auto make sure your phone is connected using Bluetooth to start with. I found when getting in to the car and starting the engine, first allow the Bluetooth connection before connecting the USB cable and allowing Android Auto to start. This allows the vehicle software to first acknowledge the phone. This will make for better stability when Android Auto connects. With some models of phone with the combination of vehicle software, for it to be able to connect by Bluetooth the phone must be connected to the USB port. During the Bluetooth setup if there is any conflict with Android Auto, temporarily disable Android Auto in your car’s setup for Android Auto. It is also important to go in to the Security setup of the phone, go to Smart Lock or the equivalent in your phone model, and set the car as a trusted device. This will prevent after security timeout the phone from disconnecting from your car’s system. With some models of phones in combination with tie software the phone will time out and Android Auto may stop responding.
When I bought my 2021 Grand Cherokee trailhawk from the dealership my Google pixel 5 phone connected perfectly to Android Auto. A few months later it stopped working and they told me to change the cord, but the problem there is that Google phones come with a type C at both ends of the chord. My sister's phone connected perfectly just last month so it has to be my phone. Thanks for the troubleshooting ideas I hope they work for me.
I have a 2021 Mazda cx 5 and I did everything but AA just would not connect. The fix was that my parking brake wasn’t on LOL! So just one more step to help if you’re still stuck. Unplug your usb cable from your phone, Restart your car, turn your parking brake on and then plug your usb back into your phone. My car recognized my phone after that! Hope this helps.
Yeah I have done all of this. I have a alpine in my 2006 silverado that's an $800 smart stero with Bluetooth and android auto. A samsung s22 and it started out where it would connect but then disconnect after a few minutes. Now it doesn't connect at all. I have a type c cable and it doesn't work.
I've had my car for about 2 1/2 years, and never had a problem with Android Auto until recently. For some reason, about 2-3 weeks ago, NO SOUND. Apps worked, but could not get sound, which is an issue when using Google Maps for Driving directions. Unfortunately, I've tried everything from Google Support to these RU-vid videos to fix the issue. No advice works. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Android Auto and Google Maps, as recommended. That only made the issue WORSE! Went from NO SOUND, to now unable to connect. Yet my son's iPhone connects no problem, and the sound works - so the issue is definitely with Android Auto!
@@carsunlocked Both Google Maps and Android Auto were fully updated. The last update, I believe, caused the no sound problem. Followed every step from Google Support and this video - nothing fixed the issue. Followed Google Support's advice to uninstall and reinstall both apps, which I did, and now my phone will not connect to my infotainment system. (Hyundai Sonata) Keep getting a "Cannot read USB" error message - which is a joke, as there is nothing wrong with the cables. Even bought a brand new Anker Powerline II cables. Still receive the same message. The issue is 100% Google, as the USB cables are fine (tested on different devices) and my son's iPhone connects instantly and works fine - even through cheap cables. Right now, I had to buy a phone holder, and use my phone only, for directions - using the Waze app. (Google Maps won't work in the car) Not an ideal situation, as due to state laws, can't have anything above the dashboard, (According to state law - "obstructions vision" - once got a huge ticket just for having a TomTom GPS in a corner out of vision range, but local police still issued me a summons). Problem with using the phone alone, because it can only be mounted lower than the dashboard - hard to see while driving, and Waze's directions aren't very accurate
After contacting Google Support and receiving no help, other than the same bs of "Making Sure You Sound is On", "Make sure apps are updated" (Google's update CAUSED the damn problem), etc - as if Google thinks people are stupid. Contacted LG for help. After telling me the same nonsense as Google Support, the LG Support tech agent then tells me that Android Auto/Google Maps ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with LG products!! So I asked, why did these apps work fine on my phone for the past 3 years, and only recently stop working? The tech guy had no clue. I then told him that according to the Android Auto site, that the LG phone IS COMPATIBLE. Now the tech guy didn't now what to say, so I said "Essentially you are telling me to drop LG and buy an iPhone?" (Remember, as I mentioned previously - my son's iPhone connects instantly , has sound, and works fine, no problems.) Now suddenly LG has a "solution". He says to do a factory reset. So after backing up my data, completing the factory reset, reinstalling and updating the apps - I'm back to the original problem - NO SOUND! My phone connects to Android Auto - REGARDLESS of which cable I try (4 in all), however, still NO SOUND!!! Worse, if I walk with Google Maps for walking directions, it will voice turn by turn directions. However, in the car, regardless of whether connected to Android Auto or untethered, NO SOUND!!! Waze provides NO SOUND either when connected to Android Auto, but untethered, I can get sound through Waze. However, Waze is UNUSABLE for driving directions. Had to pick up my daughter from the airport a few days ago (Flight arrived 3:45 am) - but not only did Waze give wrong directions (Voice said turn left at 3rd Ave yet the Map showed Turn RIGHT at 2nd Ave) and because USERS can input traffic reports, seemed like every 10 seconds Waze would say "Watch out, disabled vehicle in left lane" or "Watch Out Police Activity Ahead", etc..... Those warning were most likely from rush hour - some 8+ hours earlier, and completely useless and distracting at the time I was driving! So back to the starting point - how do I get SOUND for Google Maps through Android Auto???????????. LG ThinQ35 - Android 9.0 fully updated Android Auto & Google Maps both fully updated
This was very helpful I couldn't figure out what was wrong why my car was not connecting I watched your video and figured out it was my phone app thanks a lot
Android Auto not working? That was the case with me with my new KIA Soul. The cord was NOT the problem. The problem was that the Android Auto that came installed on my phone apparently had some issues . Once I deleted it and re-installed it, Android Auto worked.
When this happened to me 2 years ago, I was pissed off. I went to dealer to ask if they had any comment. They said change to iPhone. Which I did and have never had an issue since. I actually prefer Apple Car Play to Android Auto anyway!
My issue was USB-C cable in Bolt Drive short rental car. Same type of cable what I have used many times before, but this time it didn't work (it was charging though). Luckly had one cable w/ me & voila.
I had to use a better cord with my new phone. My old cord worked with my old phone, it just wasn't heavy enough to read USB on my new phone. The old cord would only charge my new phone and not read with Android Auto.
@caraunclocked. Hey I have a Toyota Rav4 from 2020, buy there seems to be no projection settings which has the setting to enable Android Auto, do you know anything about that??
I had the issue with my phone disconnecting and reconnecting over and over. I purchased a high quality Belkin USB 3.1 cable 3.3/1M in length from Best Buy. This cable has a 10Gbps data rate. My Android Auto has not disconnected or crashed since.
Thank youuu!! I was wondering why it wasnt working. It was in ky settings of my car but i also needed to update android auto. So i did both and it works
Excellent guide, my wife just got the new 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0 V6 Petrol here in Thailand and I wanted to connect her old Sony XZ1 via Android Auto so she could use her Spotify account when driving. Couldn't make it work until I found your guide and replaced the cable.......Always go for original cables, it's just not worth it to save a few bucks on a thing like that. I even ruined a phone charging port once as the cable was to tight a fit! Thanks again. Happy wife and all that.
Thank you for the video! Every time I receive a call my music audio just stops. With the iPhone, I simply went to the radio then back, but I'm not back with Android, and it will not allow me to play music on RU-vid Music after a call, at all...
Hyundai Santa Fe 2018 Connected then lost sound. Not sure how, but my sound was turned to 0 in my car settings for both Media & Voice Guidance. Can only change that setting while phone is not connected. All Menus->Set Up->Sound->Connected devices -> Android Auto

is there any country restrictions for android auto ? my one plus international version is seamlessly connecting but not my UAE version of Samsung s23 ultra ..it is not even popping up the USB preferences
My phone cords work and setting are all up to standards. Every time I connect the outlet on Apple CarPlay won’t charge. Can this be fixed at the dealership
Going nuts trying to get my wife's Samsung A30 connected. My Google Pixel 4 works every time, but her Samsung is only connecting for charging. The USB setting on the phone is for data transfer/android auto, the Android OS version is 11, I updated the Android Auto app. When I press the android auto button on the car menu, it sits idly saying Connecting... but nothing happens. Otherwise it says "Phone connected for charging". Restarted phone, restarted the car. Tried my Pixel phone again, it worked immediately. From everything you said, the phone is acting exactly as if the USB setting is "charge only" but as I said, it shows data transfer / android auto. I press "connect to car" from the app settings, nothing happens.
@@carsunlocked Turns out it was a Honda-specific problem. I found another video where they had discovered that their Honda had recognized the new device but immediately marked it disabled, for no discernible reason. I went into the Honda's Smartphone->Android Auto->Connected Devices menu - it showed showed my phone, and also another entry UNKNOWN DEVICE - DISABLED. I enabled it, and the next time I tried my wife's phone, everything worked. *shrug* I have no idea why the Honda firmware did that, but it's all good now. I figure I'd leave this note here in case someone else with a Honda encounters this problem..
Good video. My issue is that Google assistant is screwed since the June 2022 update. Button on steering wheel no longer activates voice commands. Have tried everything. Suggestions welcome. Thank You

Hi there, after I bought the Samsung A13, I have an issue with Android Auto, I bought a converter, to convert the USB-C cable to USB in my Ford Fiesta 2019. From home, where we have WIFI it instantly worked, I was happy and pleased. 3 km later I drove on to a small ferry and stopped the car as required, there was no way that I could get Android Auto to run again after I left the ferry. I have mobile data turned on. I don't get it. What can possibly be wrong?
