It almost didn't happen here although politics and media spread a lot of "German Angst" during 2008/09. In general the years between 2006 and like 2014/15 were very good years for Germany, politically and economically and also for the society. That's also the main reason why Merkel was reelected again and again until 2021, if you ever wondered why. Many people (I didn't!!) thought she was the reason why Germany went through the 2008 financial crisis so well and were very thankful, so they always voted for her. But since the 2015 refugee crisis Germany is in a downward spiral in my opinion. People are so pessimistic and depressive here and the society is extremly divided since 2015 and the media extremly biased. And from 2020 onwards it got even worse.

Sounds like you were pretty young at that time, because everything was just as terrible as it is now, the only difference was there weren't so many people denying observable facts.

We live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and she knew I was a big Philadelphia sports fan and it was game 2 of the 2008 World Series so she did the first part of our date at Applebees so we could watch the game . Then this I believe was the only movie playing late and we were having a good night so we decided to give it a go haha.
