90% of boardsport spinning tricks is preloading, then throwing, your shoulders, or counter spinning once you've started to slowdown or stop or when you're still on the ground, change directions entirely.
Best of luck to you and anyone else learning space walks. I skated from 13-20 was pretty mid. Could do the typical tricks... Kick, heel, varial, 360 shuv, etc, grinds... Never learned the space walk though I saw Mullen do it in the bones videos... That being said I picked the board back up in earnest at 35 about 6 months ago specifically to learn the space walk... It's been about 3 months of daily 1-2 hour sessions (of just space walks btw) and while I do have a decent and consistent spacewalk of about 5-10 "steps" it's no where near as controlled and meshed like his or any other competent freestyler... Particularly when trying to tie other tricks into it. Space walk is simultaneously the easiest and hardest trick on a skateboard... The trick is self explanatory.... But doing it well is the hard part. Be prepared to dedicate some time, this is coming from someone with a firm grasp on a board who thought it would take 2 months or so to master like a flip trick... It's not like that.
I used to skate growing up. I practice this on a balance board for snowboarding now. Everything takes time and feel and being comfortable. Best of luck.
This doesn't look like much, but this is extremely hard to do. When I used to skate, this is what I did, or attempted to try when I had no room to skate.
