This is a crazy powerful interview... Respect to Jason for stopping Andy's apology for crying... That's real grown man business right there and WE need so much more of that in todays world.
Yea i agree. We can all learn alot from jason, about being real. Pretending to be tough guy is hard , being tough is being there for the people you love when it is not easy
As a former blader I've always payed a bit of attention to skateboarding, but not all that much. After watching this, Andy is my favorite boarder. He's soft-spoken and honest, and throws down hard. I was actually taken aback by how soft-spoken he really is. You can tell he's a genuine, good-hearted person. Usually people with that sort of skill level seem to carry some sort of arrogance (not always) but this guy just isn't that guy. I hope he succeeds beyond his wildest expectations, and I hope my grandchildren are playing "Andy Anderson Pro Skater" on XBox 12. Thanks for the great video fellas, and God Bless.
Niggas like INFP type or some shit, pretty rare personality type to grab the board AND stay on it. People like him usually find some mentally stimulating work to take them away from the board, but I suppose his creative style allowed his mental creativity & sensitivity to become channeled and expressed in skateboarding.
He's very special. He's by far my favorite modern skateboarder. He's just oozing positivity. And that is something the world desperately needs right now. Love you Andy.
This is the best skateboard conversation I’ve ever seen, Tony hawk and Andy both are very humble and it is refreshing to see that kind of respect shown these days.
He's a Class act. I can only imagine how much money the IOC threw at him - but he STILL Says 'Olympics needs skating way more than we need them'. They paid Snoop $500K PER DAY to literally F@ck around for 2 weeks.
Respect to Jason for what he said here. Dunno why that hit like it did but I love seeing tough-looking guys like that protect and even admire that spirit in people like Andy.
So freaking wholesome! Love that Andy is getting his flowers. He's such an amazing technical skater and can basically do it all. He deserves all of the recognition coming his way. 👏👏
My wife just walked in on me crying at the tail end of this while listening on my phone and headphones and she sees me and as I grabbed some Kleenex - “hey babe, what’s wrong?” “Oh nothing, I was just listening to a really emotional video on RU-vid”, she asked “Aw really what about”, me: “..Skateboarding 😭” lolol she hugged me lol.
You have a great wife, brother. I too was teared up through the last half of this video, while smiling through it. I believe the pinnacle of being a good and strong man is being able to cry and carry on with focus all the same. Those that keep it all in turn into monsters who lose their humanity.
lmaooo I'm sure that men are just as much of a mystery to women as women can be to men, if not more so. That there is a good woman for consoling you instead of laughing or something lol
Add me to the "Now I'm crying" list...I have a similar thing where crying is a complete impossibility, until that one thing hits me and that balance changes and I can "Feel" and release the flood. Thanks Andy, and the legendary hosts for these moments and connections.
Holy shit you guys are ….this was a class act of not only professionalism, but just absolute realness in the highest order Jason you are the fuckn man. Tony you know you’re a legend, and how you all support the kid and clearly everyone else around you, is nothing short of inspiring. Have grown up watching you guys, and it’s beyond awesome seeing y’all n this element. Subscribed #RESPECT ✊
I fainted from Covid too! So wild. Spent two days in the hospital. They almost put a pace maker in me. Out now and back to skating! Love you Andy. Ride your deck everyday. Probably wouldn’t be hitting the skatepark everyday at 35yo if it wasn’t for you. Super inspiring brother. Namaste!
I can't comprehend the levels this kid operates at. The intelligence, the diligence, the vulnerability, the honesty, the innovation, the humor, the emotional awareness... that moment at the end after the intense discussion about Mark Waters and his mother where he just lit up when one of his heroes said he watched his premier on opening night... "Really?" "Yeah." "... Sick." There are very few people who make the world a better place by simply existing as themselves. All three of these men are such people.
Such a sweet and genuine guy, he opened up my ducts in a way i never have before. Getting emotional always gives me a lump in my throat, but he kept me breathing. Andy, stay vulnerable and healthy please! Thanks Mr. Hawk. Buying your boards since '93, you are my fountain of youth.
This guy is the perfect example of a human being. Just a great guy. Jason too. Hawks just... well, words can't describe. Straight up great clip. This is what we all need more of!
The genuine love and respect between them all os a beautiful thing to witness. Love Andy's reaction when Tony said he saw his part the night of the premier even if i couldn't attend it.
I don’t know a single thing about skateboarding. However anytime I see this kid on a video, I HAVE to watch him. He is phenomenal! From the way he talks, to his explanations of why he did whatever trick, to the respect he gives to every other person… I mean this with all my heart, Andy Anderson is a once in a lifetime type of dude. I’m so glad I somehow stumbled on a short of his Tony Hawk interview so that I could go down the Andy Anderson rabbit hole. Good shit man.
i haven't been on a board since the late 80s, I'm a musician, and artist. Andy Anderson IS not only one of the best skaters of all time, but his vibe is pure artist. The empathy, depth, thoughtfulness, presence, and authenticity that's natural too him, Andy is a PURE ARTIST! MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT!
This kid blows my mind Everytime he talks, no you know what, he blows my mind Everytime I see ANY video of him, skating, talking, any time I see him he just blows me away.
I don’t understand all the stuff with skating yet and I’m confused on why he’s ranked so low on the world rankings like Nyjah 6 for example Ginwoo is 1 and I don’t know if it was right but I seen Andy was 193 and I’m confused bc it’s no way has he just not been doing comps or what
@@JOK3RC4RDx Its just because hes not a great switch rider (regular riding goofy, or goofy riding regular). Hes such an amazing skater at the stuff he does, but hes not great at everything. Like he said in this video he cant grab stalefish, and I think he said melon? He definitely has the talent to be great at everything, if he just spent time working on it hed reach top in no time.
Stacy’s advice “Just do it like a concert musician.. he’s not thinking about the next chord.” That is so spot on and exactly the type of advice I would expect from Stacy Peralta 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
emotions are good. crying is good. this is what makes us human, and glad to see folks stepping away from toxic cultural expectations. Let's live large, ups and downs, and feel everything to the fullest. Also, Andy is my favorite skater these days, and was a big part in inspiring me to take up the sport!
andy anderson is my favourite skateboarder man not just because hes a BEAST on the ramps but what he stands for and who he is as a person he has a good head on his shoulders and solid morals such a pure genuine good vibes human being! hes from the same city as me and to see him make it this far is a trip! you make Vancouver BC and canada proud andy!!!
I so appreciate this conversation!! Your favorite car and toughest truck also cries. Think about the cooling system and how it has a burp valve that lest off pressure when it gets too hot. I believe that we have a cooling system and emotion is tied into this, and the physical tears are as necessary as the emotion that accompanies them. Too many of us men have "dismantled our cooling system" and are overheating emotionally and this blowing up a perfectly good engine for the sake of stupid pride. Good talk today guys!!! Super encouraging!
This makes me like andy and jason even more. Never be afraid to hide emotion. Dams can only hold so much. Big hugs from Australia man. More important than ever these days to have the courage to let go and just lean on someone. Mental health is just as important ( i would say more so) as physical health. Great interview boys. Really loved it.
I skated as a teenager allot. Just for a timeline it was in the days of Guerrero and Hosoi, Natas and McGill and I've always casually followed it. This kid though, has me diving back into it like I'm ready to put a board together, he's a pretty special kid.
Andy, you are one of the best things that have ever happened. To live at the same time as dudes like you. I picked up the board again at 48 from not tuching it in like 30 years and I just realized that that was around when you were born. Tony and Jason is like my skating older brothers and you are like the fresh new prodigy. I feel you man and you made me find my board again... and now I am going to look for my helmet as well.
Andy is a true champion.. i am sooo happy that all his hard work has payed off to the point where he now gets to have these heart to hearts with the biggest names he grew up watching... true champ, wears his heart on his sleeves, and doesnt let others outlook or views on things change a single thing about him.. true canadian hero in my books... ❤
This dude is the best thing to happen to skateboarding in many years. Just a really insanely positive energy that the world needs right now. Also he's pretty good at skateboarding I guess.
Winning the olympics, while very impressive and beautiful for skateboarding, will forever be overshadowed by the person that embodied the esprit de corps of the sport. He did freestyle in the first ever olympic park contest. If that doesn't perfectly represent everything that skateboarding is in one symbolic gesture... well, he's my champion.
I have been around skateboarding since 1980. I used to collect the thrasher mags and saw the original Bones Brigades. Early I was a poser and later I was building skate ramps. I tried the vision shoes, the jams shorts. The jimmy-z t-shirts and punk attire. I would look into the sport every once in a while after XGames and others. My favorite in the beginning was Steve Rocco. Followed by Rodney Mullen. My favorite board of all time was a Madrid Bill Danforth because of it space shuttle shape at the time followed by the Exploding clock design of Claus Grabke. When I first saw Andy Anderson, I saw something different. The way he expresses himself, his moves, his dedication to his skill made me look for all his videos. Hell, I even pondered buying one of his boards and I currently do not skate. If you want someone to look up to for this generation of skaters, choose Andy. For someone to be open and honest and to share with the world that he had that experience on that run, is just beautiful.
I LOVE the complete lack of toxic masculinity in this clip, and it's coming from the most gnarly looking dude in the chat. Jason knows what he's talking about. I LOVE crying... when I can. The worst part is wanting to cry, to let it out, and you just can't. So it ends up coming out in the weirdest moments. A TV commercial. A song that I can't singing along to because I will always start crying at the exact same part. Those moments are meaningful, powerful, and should not be suppressed. They should be embraced and ball your eyes out. It's feels SO good. And you always feel better and more in the here and now afterwards. Crying is not weakness. Pretending you're too tough to cry is.
Super impressive he had those runs after getting injured. I rolled my ankle today, and although it wasnt too bad, it led to me ending my session early. Im also glad to see the, crying is okay, stuff. Having emotions and crying are human things.
You shouldn't risk making an injury worse. If it hurts, walk away and return when its better. But, this was the Olympics, and you can break that rule for a special occasion 😂
