This is a great conversation. I’ll remember to focus on reading fluency and conversational intelligence. And the fact that he brings in sabbath to detach from work, significance and status is all very challenging - in a good way.

It seems to me that the breakdown of trust in institutions can be tied to inequality. In corporations, upper management wants their employees to care about the company as much as they do while they earn 10-50x more money. It's not just. In churches, pastors want their congregants to care about their institution while they reap the rewards of power and influence. They are the only ones allowed to speak in the gathering. It creates a caste system in the body of Christ. IMO, to restore trust in institutions requires first an acknowledgment of past wrongs and a pledge to do better. Leaders should then seek to bring balance to the group. Take a pay cut. Give congregants a voice in the gathering. That would go a long way to making people feel like they are partners in the institute vs resources.
