Find it difficult that Mike Haley hasn't been given a shout. None of the wingers could replace Keenan so seamlessly. He's been incredibly consistent this year. Not sure why Stockdale got a shout either.

Re Haley I'm not surprised. Wished he was as a Munster fan. Jimmy O Brien will be cover. For the majority of the squad can't argue with it. A few question marks but Farrell has earned the right to pick his squad

He's never been in an Ireland squad though and is probably the reason many munster players like Haley haven't made the squad due to them having to play catch up.

@@cathalhealy4861 He has 1 cap. He made his debut for Ireland in their 2019 Rugby World Cup warm-up match against Italy on 10 August 2019, featuring as a replacement in the 29-10 win.

Balacoune has definitely been better than Stockdale for a good while. He's the only person who has outright speed in Ireland. Feel sorry for him. He was easily better than Stockdale vs Connacht.

Bala was staying on his wing amd not making enough impact in the rest of the game. Defence a bit suspect also. There is fierce competition in fairness.

Balacoune probably the fastest winger in the country but Nash is a flyer Earls was faster but still plenty of gas see his tackle towards the end of Stormers game Daly has gas Larmour Lowry Lowe Hansen Conway none of them slow if Farrell wanted sheer speed Jordan Conroy would be in the squad

Is everyone forgetting Frisch is Irish qualified? Hard to believe he was left out when at least one of Henshaw and ringrose will undoubtedly get injured again

i remember seeing Frisch play for Bristol before signing for Munster, pure attacking class he has. Threw a poor offload in the URC final. id imagine Ringrose gets the nod purely for his defensive iq but Henshaw can be a bit one dimensional but test proven. - Henshaw wouldn't have thrown that offload leading to the intercept try.

Unfortunately the game in South African was like a American baseball/basketball/football game 😢 music to get the fans to get reaction from the fans fireworks when stromers scored. Cheerleaders dancing on the sideline 👎👎 . It was awful. BUT most of their real rugby fans were fantastic and respectful after losing..respect

@@shane-irish No he isn't at all. Kleyn was one of the best performing locks in the whole URC this season. McCarthy hasn't shown remotely the same consistency and form.

I reckon the likes of Earls are there so you can have some experience for the games against Tonga and Romania without having to risk the first choice starters. Tonga in particular could be a banana skin with the new eligibility rules, you’d want a calming influence.

The message Andy Farrell is basically sending is form isn’t a big factor in team selection, John Hodnet and Mike Haley couldn’t have played any better in the last few months but it still can’t compete with players who have already performed I mean stockdale scored a great try against the all blacks in 2018 but is that really enough credit in the bank to say no one else can get a look in.

Really don’t see it that way. Aside from Stockdale, the older players he picked may not be flavour of the month but they’re all solid who rarely have bad games. The kind you want for a match against Tonga, with 6 former all blacks and Israel Folau, that won’t crap themselves if it’s tighter than expected with 10 min to go.

I didn’t mean to pick on the older players, I obviously think most of the older players still on the team are playing at a really high level, just some selections are not the strongest choices obviously most are, I just take it as a bad message to the fringe players that they may have to wait till the next coaching ticket to get a chance

@Donal Lenihan I'm sure there is a reason for it. You can't pick everyone just on who's in better form, they have to be on form and playing the game in a certain style to suit, and it's silly to only bring similar players in each position as you will need variations in play style throughout the tournament.

Fully agree that these players deserved a call up both because of form and because they are the only true 15 and 7 alternatives to Haley and Van der Flier. I can understand that in a match day 23 you might cover these positions with O’Brien and Peter O’ Mahony but if they are the starters who would replace them?

Because he gets found out against quality defences. He’s looks fantastic against slower weaker opponents in the urc but when he tries to step his way around test level defenders, he just gets smashed.

Yea Larmour's hop step fools the lower level defences but higher quality players know he never actually changes direction! It's crazy watching him waste momentum in a game by jumping up like that instead of an actual step or a straight carry into the gap. My pet peeve

I agrée but when you consider how many players Farrell has introduced since he took over, including Keenan, Lowe, Hansen, Crowley, Gibson Park, Bealham, O’Toole, Van der Flier, Conan, Doris he may feel he has done his scouting. I have long been concerned about his reliance on Keenan and Van der Flier and think that Haley and Hodnett should at least be in camp in a 42 man squad. I cannot understand why Stockdale is recalled and Henderson retained when they have been injured and not shown form unlike Nash or Daly and Kleyn.

Sorry he was a great player for us for a few year's. But Ian Henderson will most likely get injured or give award silly penalties. I'v no fate in him anymore. I do have fate in Andy but finding it hard.... even Kilcoyne isn't playing for munster .

Look at the amount of derision aimed at kidney despite winning a first grand slam in 60 years and having arguably Irelands most successful RWC(topping the group for the first time and beating Australia). To be fair to Ruaidhri, many season ticket holding Munster supporters are amazed by the turnaround which started really as far back as the win over the Springboks and was followed by a narrow defeat to Leinster. They had been poor until then with losses to losses away to Dragons and at home to Ulster representing low points. Also poor despite the wins was performance at home to Zèbre and Connacht and the loss to Toulouse. But credit where it is due, these were teething problems and while not the finished article they have transformed their game. They do not have the depth of Leinster and are a bit underpowered in the front row having let go two good props but they have a great back line and with Kleyn in form and Snyman back a very strong second row and a very good backrow.

Grand slam, test series against the All Blacks, November wins against South Africa and Australia....all with an Irish team made up of majority Leinster players. PO'M wasn't even a stand out in any of those achievements. Munster win one trophy after 12 years and their fans think they're the new all blacks. Also Munster would have been hammered in the semi final if Leinster had played their strongest team. And you wouldn't have won the URC without Snyman and Fekitoa.

Stockdale is a ridiculous inclusion. He and Earls (no disrespect, but the guy is no world beater, especially at his age) are almost certainly in on past reputation and central contract obligation. Baloucoune is very unlucky to miss out; he looks like another talent seemingly wasted by playing outside of the Munster-Leinster duopoly.

Earls is a big game player though, can play anywhere in the back line, and if you were defending a tight lead with 10 minutes to go, he doesn’t panic and make mistakes

Not sure there is an anti-Ulster thinking. I agree that Balacoune could have been in but think Henderson and Stockdale are lucky to be in and Haley, Hodnett and Kleyn are unlucky not to make a 42 man squad. I do not see many Ulster players making a starting XV but expect O’Toole, Herring and Treadwell could be in a match day 23. Whereas starting XVs often include 12 Leinster players, players from the other teams make up almost half the squad with Munster rightly having more than Ulster and Connacht. Ulster have have great players and potential but I wish they did not rely so much on the maul. Hopefully they use the running of Lowry, Balacoune and Hume more.

They obviously do rate Osborne, but I don't understand why he didn't get a cap in the Six Nations. Why bring him in for that tournament, not select him, and then give him his first cap at RWC? Seems a bit strange

@@patrickmccutcheon9361 I rewatched the first half of the QF v NZ recently. Henshaw, Murray, Furlong and Ryan all made bad handling errors. Sexton dropped the ball in midfield which led to a Barrett breakaway try essentially ending the game as a contest after 25 mins.
