Andy was the youngest and died 1st in 1988. Then, Andy's other brothers from "The Bee Gees", Maurice died in 2003, and Robin died in 2012. Maurice and Robin were twins. The only brother who is still alive is, Barry Gibb! .....Rest in Peace Brothers! ❤️❤️❤️
Unfortunately, mother Barbara had also to survive Andy, Mo and Rob's death. What a drama for a mother! Very very sad. She died on May 2015 at the age of 95.
His chronic cocaine use caused inflammation in his heart that persisted after he sobered up. He had been sober for about 3 months at the time of his death and he was struggling with depression over his breakup with Victoria Principal.
He looks just like Barry. His life ended far too early. I'd like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Gibb for having and sharing their four, extremely talented sons with the world. The world wouldn't be the same if we hadn't had them all to enjoy. Thanks for reacting to Andy, Jamel. I've only seen one video (I'm not saying there aren't more) of him on stage singing with Barry, Maurice and Robin. I'm glad he is still being remembered. Take care and be well. Peace.
The Gibbs also have a sister. I forgot her name though. If it weren't for his drug use,he would've gone on to do more solo music and tour as well. Sad..he was so young. ✌💗🎶😁
@@catherinef2054 probably yes a heart attack brought on by overdosing on cocaine. The love of his life Victoria Principal got him into using is what I have heard but don't quote me on that for it may have been only a rumor about her getting him into the cocaine.
When they did concerts after the loss of Andy they always played this and had a memorial video of Andy on screen. They would say this goes out to our Andy.
Andy Gibb would have eventually taken his place with his brothers in their band as the "Fourth Bee Gee," but this song blew up so hard back in the day, that he remained a solo artist...till his tragic and early end.
Sweet Andy died in 1988. He was only 30 years old. It broke my heart as a 22 year old and still breaks my heart as a 54-year-old. This performance is so right on. His vocals were just about perfect. Rest in peace forever dear, Andy. Thanks for uploading and sharing your thoughts. The Midnight Special is the BEST!
This is Andy's first #1 from 1977. The song was written by his brother, Barry. Other big hits for Andy include Shadow Dancing, (Our Love) Don't Throw it All Away and An Everlasting Love.
Andy Gibb passed from heart damage as a result of years of heavy drug use in 1988. Maurice Gibb died unexpectedly of surgery complications, IIRC, in 2003. Robin Gibb would succumb to cancer in 2012. Sir Barry Gibb is the sole surviving Bee Gee as of this writing...and a World Treasure.
I feel so sorry for Andy. His brothers were the biggest band in the world. The pressure must have been enormous. He was so talented, just like the rest of his family.
Thank you! They played this song at the roller skating rink all the time, when it was Lady's choice (couples skate - lady chooses her partner). Twelve year old me worked up the courage to ask my crush to couple skate (he said Yes!). 13 years later at Karaoke Night, he sang this to me, got down on one knee and proposed. (I said Yes!) Was our first dance song at our wedding reception as well. Lovely memories of a lovely song. Andy Gibb left us way too soon.
In the late 70s, I had Andy Gibb posters plastered all over my room...and I slso choreographed dances to his songs...Guess I was a fan ❤😂 He was so talented, with so much charisma.🎉
Jamel I hope you are able to play "Love is Thicker than Water" also on the Midnight Special. His other number 1 hit was Shadow Dancing. And another top ten was "An Everlasting Love". Andy Gibb rules!!!
OH ...the 80`s was not far enough back to make me feel old you wanna drag me back to the 70`s lmao ...OUTSTANDING!!!!!! THank Jamel ...l loving it even more!
Oh Yes, He was my childhood crush when I was younger! I had all of his albums! Besides this one he had Shadow Dancing, Love Is Thicker Than Water, An Everlasting Love, Don`t Throw It All Away, Time Is Time, Desire...he had so many hits! Keep On Rockin`
Girl I'm right there with you. I was madly in love with him. I still remember how heartbroken I was when he died. I cried so much over someone I had never met. I was 21. RIP beautiful man 💗. I'm going to have to watch this again.
Don't forget the one he did with Victoria Principle. The love of his life. I remember when he passed and people were so mad that she didn't stick by him. They felt he would still be alive. She was like I tried to save him when I was with him. I couldn't so I saved myself.
The names of the Gibb brothers were: Barry, Robin, Maurice, and Andy Andy was the first to past away, then the next was Maurice and then Robin. Barry the oldest is still alive!!. For those who don’t know Robin and Maurice are Twins. Andy was a solo artist, he would get on the stage with his older brothers occasionally!!.
So today’s artists write all their own songs? How many hit songs have Beyoncé, Rihanna & Ariana Grande written? Or Drake? I believe Andy has co-writing credit on most of those songs.
Andy Gibb was a solo act. Barry wouldn't allow him to record with the Bee Gees. Andy was much younger. He was an addict. Barry wanted the Bee Gees to remain a Trio. By the way, this song was for Victoria Principle who was the love of his life.
I have a picture of me in 79 holding this album as a Xmas gift . I was in second grade!. I will always be an Andy Gibb fan . He passed away when I was in 10th grade(88) I was devastated.
The guitar played on the album was none other than the amazing Joe Walsh. He had finished a little known album with the Eagles called "Hotel California" at the same studio. Andy asked if he would play on the album and of course being the awesome man he is he said sure! Thanks for doing this song..love it!!
The Gibb family had a lot of talent Andy was a teen heart throb as they used to say sadly he couldn't overcome his addiction Rip to all those affected so 🙏✌️♥️
I've never heard Andy Gibb sing live. Wow. He was amazing and looked just like his oldest brother, Barry. Very handsome young man from a very handsome and talented family. Too much tragedy & loss for one family. Thanks, Jamel, for reacting to his music.
BeeGees consist of the three older brothers: Barry, born in 1946 and fraternal twins Maurice and Robin, born in 1949 Andy was born in 1958, so he was an infant, and possibly not even born yet when BeeGees was formed in 1958, and was around 10 years old when his older brothers started to hit it big in the '60s. Sadly, he was the first to pass, in 1988 at age 30. Cause of death is listed as myocarditis, attributed to cocaine abuse earlier in his life which weakened his heart. Maurice passed in 2003, due to complications of a twisted intestine. His twin brother Robin followed in 2012, due to kidney failure. While the brothers Gibb also have a sister, of the four performing brothers, only the oldest, Barry, is currently still alive.
Andy was much younger than his brothers in the Bee Gees and so was not an original member. He began recording on his own following in his brother's footsteps during the disco era. The Bee Gees had been recording together for about 10 years at this time. Andy's songs were written and arranged by the Bee Gees giving him a similar sound. At the height of Andy's career the Bee Gees announced that Andy would become part of the group (giving the group four members at that time). Unfortunately, Andy's passed away before they record together. He was the first of the brothers to pass on.
Awww, Thanks Jamel, this is great, Andy doesnt get the credit he deserves for his solo talent...Died way to young. R.I.P. Andy... Missed since 1988...Thanks Jamel, Peace
I understand the confusion. Andy--the youngest Gibb brother, who never was part of the Bee Gees--died first, tragically. Much later, Maurice and Robin Gibb passed away, leaving only Barry Gibb as the surviving sibling. This Midnight Special clip was of Andy in his rising heyday, and he was a magnetic solo star.
Andy's timing was perfect for HIS VERY OWN SOLO CAREER. It was his destiny in time. he was uniquely talented, just like his brothers before him. Thanks Andy! RIP! Live on! Work it!
Oh my *** I remember Solid Gold and the dancers. I love all of those dancing and music shoes from the late 70's and early 80's while I grew up. Old time MTV was the bomb.
YAY! Woo-Hoo, a RU-vidr reacting to Andy Gibb... finally! Oh my gosh, after months of watching countless Bee Gee reaction videos from numerous different channels & requesting someone to please check out the "baby Bee Gee", Jamel comes through once again - thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! It's no wonder why you're my favorite RU-vid channel (& Mr. Video's too). Andy was such a talented musician in his own right. So sad that he passed away just a few days after his 30th b-day from a heart condition which was exacerbated by alcohol & drug abuse. I still remember the day when my cousin bought this album (I was 10 yrs old). She played it over & over again until I memorized the lyrics. I'm 54 now and still can sing every word... in my sleep - LOL! This song & Shadow Dancing were my top favorites from Andy. Even though Andy was 12 years younger than Barry (the oldest), they could have been twins. They share very similar facial features & vocal sound. Barry & Andy look more like twins than the actual fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice.
Andy was my very first concert it was around 1978 when I was 15. My dad dropped my best friend and I off at Selland Arena in Fresno CA. We called her mom from a pay phone to come get us when the show was over. We were absolutely thrilled to be there.
I met them both on Melrose Ave in Hollywood he was trying so hard to get attention he was bumping into street sign's & lights & shit! they actually asked if they could take a picture with us being that we were punks & goths & this scene was still pretty fresh in the '80s but I guess he felt his career was going down so he had to asked if he could take pictures with us I guess to make it look like we were wanting taking pictures with him!!. LOL👍🏻😆
She had no business with Andy, being much older & enabled his addiction. Andy was married & had a young daughter not long after he blew up. Victoria introduced him to that life & she was just as much an enabler as everyone else.
@@gaylaliles4095 Have you ever seen Barry standing next to other stars. He's very short. I think Andy may have been a little taller. Now I have to google this. lol
Hope you’ll also listen to Andy’s “Shadow Dancing.” As all are saying here, he was the youngest brother as a solo act. The other three were part of The Bee Gees.
I had the BIGGEST ever crush on Andy Gibb! I was so little but oh, so in love 😍😂🤣😂 Heartbroken when he died, and I believed the rumor for a long time that he died of an OD, which made it all the more heartbreaking at the time. But learning the truth, that he died of a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect and upon autopsy there was ZERO drugs in his system made me even more heartbroken that the lie was able to spread and take hold of so many people globally far faster and longer than the actual truth did. His memory was smeared by it, and he didn’t deserve that 😢💔🤬
When Shadow Dancing came out my local record store was giving the enormous poster of the album after it had displayed in the store. I was lucky to get it and have that on my bedroom wall. It was one huge Andy! Loved him!
Andy died first RIP at age of 30 5 days before this 31st birthday ,and then Robin, and Marice. Then thier Mom and one sister. Barry is the oldest and still performing and writing for other artists he is the last Bee Gee RIP to all but his father and his sister Leslie. Brandi Modrak XOXO means hugs and Kisses to you and your family.
BTW, guitarist on his side is Don Henley from the Eagles, singing with him on chorus. Andy was kinda twin in mind of Barry, having so many equalities to him. Check out both of them singing on a charity live-concert a song called 'Thats, What I Say'.
Andy Passed years ago at a young age he was referred to as Barry Gibb ‘s twin cause they looked so much alike so sad Rest In Peace to all the Gibb brothers who passed 🙏☮️💟 react to Andy’s Shadow Dancing another of his hits 👍
Andy was the youngest brother - not one of The Bee Gees but an incredibly popular solo artist. My friends and I had the biggest crush on him! He was hugely successful, too, but he sadly died at a very young age. 💔
There is a version of Andy Gibb singing The Bee Gees, “Words” at some Award show or something on RU-vid. It is the one where he is wearing a tux. This version is fantastic. He sounds and looks like Barry with the vibrato of Robin. Check it out! RIP Andy Gibb!
Mr dog tag chain kept getting stuck in my chest hair. Sadly we couldn't take the off so we used 550 parachute cord to cover the chains. Don't think that's work with you gold ones.
I was so in love with Andy when I was a little girl in the 70s. My sister had a poster on her wall - the red silk shirt and white pants, open shirt of course. I think this song and Shadow Dancing always make the list for top 20 songs of the 70s.
Andy was not part of the Bee Gees and had his own career though he sang with them from time to time on stage and they sang backup vocals on his albums and helped write some of his songs. Sadly that included a lot of drug use and he suffered from depression. He was fired as a co-host of Solid Gold because of his drug use. Sadly even though he had been clean and making a comeback at the time of his death, he was depressed about his breakup with actress Victoria Principal (Pamela Ewing from the original Dynasty) and the damage had been done to his heart. Andy died in 1988, five days after his 30th birthday from myocarditis which is severe inflammation due to years of cocaine abuse. Older brothers Maurice and Robin died in 2003 and 2012 respectively. Only Barry and their older sister Leslie remain of the main Gibb family as both parents are now also deceased.
Andy was my first celeb crush. He died when I was a freshman in college and that one felt strange - like my childhood had just had a thread pulled and might start unraveling….. (like I thought it was always going to stay intact!!)
We had Andy Gibb fill at a local dance because the lead singer of the band that was booked was rehearing for his upcoming role as Judas in the first Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Everyone was initially disappointed but he won us over.
Andy Gibb died on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. He had a long, well publicized cocaine problem. The cause of his death was listed as “Myocarditis”, which is inflammation of the heart muscle. His heart just simply stopped beating. He had quit cocaine several months earlier, but years of abusing it had caused heart damage. He also had suffered from severe clinical depression for years, which no doubt only made his health even worse. It’s really sad because he was working on a new album and he still had a great voice. It’s just odd how Andy died at 30, and yet other musicians like Ozzy and Keith Richards abused their bodies far worse than Andy, yet they’re over 70.
Andy Gibb was the Bee Gees younger brother, who was never in the band, although the Bee Gees did help out with vocals on his music. He would have been an awesome addition to the band, as his voice sounds exactly like Barry's and would have harmonized beautifully with them, although he wouldn't have been with him for long, as he died extremely young and in the middle of his career.
