In the late 90s I had the privilege of meeting Andy in Denton Tx. It was a strange night. He was missing his family. I told him just go home. Lol He said he was. Poor guy. I remember sitting in a parking lot after a night out with my aunt, mom and sisters. Rewound the tape to this song at least a dozen times, singing to the top of our lungs. My Aunt, Mom & Sister have all passed on. But I know they are with me when I hear this song ❤

This song was dedicated to me by my fiancee when I was 18 years old. I loved him beyond words. Til he died of a tragic accident 5 months before our day to be married. 20 years later I hear this song and it makes me sob. It's still unreal to me but he always loved Andy Griggs voice and so do I.

For those of you don't know the story, Andy Griggs was making his first album, and this song was one that he'd written and put in the back of his stuff because he was convinced it was too personal to put out. He just didn't want to open his heart like that. Once the record company people heard and saw what he had written, they convinced him grudgingly to put this out. And now we all benefit. Every once in awhile, the record executives are smarter than the artist. Only once in awhile.

Yeah my dad is cousins with this guy, he told me after his brother and his dad passed away he told his mom he was moving to Nashville, he moved in ‘97 and got the deal to an album in ‘98 and finished it in ‘99 I haven’t seen him in years but he was a cool guy

I remember back before social media going to say maybe 2005 he had gotten married over the weekend in a non publicized ceremony. He played a show here in Buffalo. Industry email an hour before the show came through about it. I got to meet him and congratulate him. Nobody else knew not even the radio station. Sort of pulled his hand away but he couldn’t hide the ring and he then thanked me.

This was my song for my big boy. It would come on the radio and I would scoop him up and dance with him and sing it to him. Hearing it today melts my heart. It takes me right back to holding that little boy with the blonde curls and the big blue eyes. What a lucky girl I am to have had that time with him. I can't listen to this without crying though. It was like that whenever I had my daughter now almost 18. I always played the same few songs while I was pregnant with her that they were the only ones that would soothe her. She doesn't even know about that and still to this day they are among her most favorite songs. Ones that soothe her when she is having a bad day.

The memories from this song.....WOW😁😁 In the spring/ early summer of 1999, my now ex husband, took me to a concert in Louisville KY where I heard Andy Griggs sing this song for the first time ever and I fell in love❤️ I fell in love w the song, w Andy's voice and the meaning behind the song. A chapter long closed in my life but the memories are still very dear and they r the memories I pass down to my kids bc it was their Dad that took me to that concert years before they were ever thought of lol

I know in the song he's talking about his wife/gf but to me I take a different meaning to this song. My wife has full custody over her niece and nephew and we're raising them as our own kids. This song was playing on the radio when I brought my german shepherd/chow rescue dog home for the first time. It became our song. I had him for 7 wonderful years- until he passed away at 13 years old. He had spent the first 6 years of his life in a cage, un-socialized, frustrated and neglected. He became the best friend I ever had. He has been gone 2 1/2 years and this song still makes me cry.

I found my soul mate when I was 18 years old. We stayed together almost 42 years. He passed away October 14th 2019. Only God knows how much I still love and miss him. I've told people it'll take a very very special man to get me to say I DO again.. I know for sure I'll die Loving and missing him.
